Alekon

Alekon

This is a very simple game idea. You take photos of mostly happy, colorful creatures, solve some simple puzzles, play minigames. What makes Alekon very interesting is the memorable creature design, but it’s worth mentioning that, as you go further, it’s getting harder to memorise all of them.

It’s fairly easy to move forward in the game, you are not forced to finish everything (but some skills make your life easier, specially if you try to make every photo 10/10) I would say childfriendly, if we don’t count some of the minigames are kinda hard (But as far as I see, the devs are taking feedback and fixing those, so you can partly ignore this comment) and the situation with the Shrooma minigame, that felt a bit odd.

It’s an old game but still a great game, never gets bored of the gameplay and stories, bought the deluxe during the autumn sale 50% discount. The new HD graphic looks good, main characters and some mobs now have voice acting, also now we can choose skills we need when fusing demons which is convenient. It was a pain and time-consuming before on PS2 that we had to keep shuffling until we get at least some okay skills. Hey Atlus, I wish you guys add Persona 5 Royal on PC too, yearning for that game so badly since a lot of us are unable to get a console.

Penko Park

Penko Park

Want to go on a weird safari? well then heres a game for you!

Penko park is an exploration game in the vein of Pokemon snap, you sit in a cart and are driven on a tour of the abandoned Penko wildlife park, as you travel through the park you take snapshots of the various animals that inhabit the place, in many ways its like a rail shooter.

Of course theres more to it that simply riding passively through the park, there are numerous collectables to find and alternate paths to open up. And simply finding the various animals isn’t all there is either most will have multiple poses to collect so you have to figure out how to get them in addition to just finding the animal, for the most part this is fairly easy as the interactions involve only the target animal itself, but there are a few situations where things get complex (like using one creature to scare another) its just a shame that there aren’t more of these in the game (like scaring away a predator causing a new creature to come out or something) but I can see how that would be alot more work for such a small team.

It’s Pokemon Snap on Steam.

So, I really liked Pokemon Snap on N64. I know, I know, it’s a game for five-year-olds, but it was so much fun - travel around different locations, keep your eyes peeled, take some good pictures. Well, that’s what this game is… just with the random monsters of a different imagination. It’s kinda weird - this game is quite a bit simpler than Snap, and yet… I think I liked this one more. Heck, the graphics aren’t even up to the Snap level (Snap was 3D, super animated, blah blah blah… This one is hand-drawn-y, simple animations, etc) - and I still think I like this one better. My ONLY disappointment was how quickly I “beat” the game - I’m showing 4.2 hours logged as of writing this, and that was with trying to take my time to enjoy (rather than trying to “steamroll” the game).

Cat’s Menace

Cat’s Menace

This game was a lot of fun to play in front of my stream audience, however playing it by myself without friends would have been a rather miserable experience, I’m afraid. The game has no save or checkpoint system, so when you have a Game Over, you have to start the entire game over from the beginning. The game operates by having you assign a cat to a task and making choices to decide whether the cats succeed or fail in the mission. The choices have no logic behind them, so it’s a coin flip in deciding if you lose the cat you assigned or not. Also, it doesn’t seem to matter which cats you assign to the mission. They’re essentially just very cute life counters.

So, I’m going to be honest and say, I LOVE CATS…

Now, when I then looked at the “Similar to games you’ve played: The Witcher 3 and Portal 2” I was ready for this game to BLOW. MY. MIND.

Spoiler alert: It did not…

The other reviews are spot on:

  • English translation is bad, even to the point where some things doesn’t make sense

  • It’s game over pretty easily and you have no idea what would be the right answer to the events you’re prompted with

  • When you get a game over, you start over from the beginning - so it becomes a pattern of blindly guessing what’s right and having to remember every right answer to get further in the game. Which gets boring and annoying very fast.

If you enjoy endless amounts of fun and the time of your life buy this game now. This game was a complete and udder blast i cannot amount it into words. I am positive this game was touched by the hand of god himself.

i cant say this game has anything special about it expect the idea of reviving dead and taking them with you to the next level.

wich is pretty much the whole content. you wander from one area to another kill everything, revive it and go to th next area. there is no real challenge behind it and the whole game is finished in under one hour.

this game has great potential but waaay to little content. if it gets developped prpperly i would definitely pay more for it.

Bushfires: Animal Rescue

Bushfires: Animal Rescue

Another one of those spread awareness game… this one is about bush fire / forest fire, probably inspired by the recent fire in Australia… but still a good idea to spread awareness and knowledge for the younger generations.

At first glance, one would thought this game is made for kids, but after trying it myself, all i can say is the difficulty balance needs to be lowered if you want kids to enjoy the game. It’s even a bit hard for the adults, and i mean it’s actually needing the players to memorize the map and plan a strategy on the go type of high difficulty. If you plan to sell this game to the adult, then you might need to reconsider the overall design in graphics and all that to a more adult-like design to tell them this isn’t a game for kids.

I am giving some leeway with this review since it is an early-access game.

Overall, I would recommend this game. The gameplay and concept appear quite simple, but it is in-fact quite a challenging game. While you are attempting to rescue the various animals, you are also under a strict time-limit. Balancing the two means that you have to make on the spot decisions about how many animals you can afford to rescue (while still making it out in time).

There are certainly some issues with the game. The lack of camera controls (the camera is fixed to behind the vehicle) can make it rather frustrating at times. Both the landscape and fire can obscure your view of the car, and there have been a few times that I’ve ended up driving right into fire & dying because I couldn’t see where I was going. I think the net-throwing mechanic needs some refinement, along with the animal movements. Animals sometimes get stuck (allowing for easy capture), or glitch up to the top of the cliff (preventing capture). Capturing birds is rather difficult - you almost have to guess - as the pointer (which shows you where the net will land) clips through the rocks that the birds land on.

I really like this game, but there is a part in level 4 that is literally impossible. I did exactly what walkthroughs showed to do, and has other people even try it, and no one could get passed ringing the bell. I tried restarting the game, I tried using a different controller, I’m at a complete loss, and that sucks because that’s basically the end of the game that I miss out on.

Lot’s of jump scares, story line was awesome, it has 5 levels with all different scenery..

Would 100% recommend this and the price is worth it.

It’s a cute little game, but the inventory management is a real pain. The planets and their surroundings get quickly cluttered and that takes a lot of the fun out of the game. Would be nice if we could delete stuff more easily than dragging it all the way to the sun. The game doesn’t feel ready or polished, it seems to have a bunch of bugs here and there as well. Also I was hoping it would be a bit more realistic/educational but it’s really more on the same level as Little Alchemy ie. Stick + Bug = Stick bug. It took me two days to make sand, because I thought the logical route would be rocks but no, obviously I needed to make bunnies first.

Cute little game, but ran into game breaking errors.

If you try to charge batteries under a thunderstorm, it crashes your game with a FATAL ERROR message. Poop doesn’t dissolve in water, despite what it says in the journal. And there’s no keyboard option to quickly pick up a ton of items instead of clicking over and over again, which will strain your wrist. You can also lock yourself out of progression if you run out of materials or have trouble cooling down planets.

I really enjoy the game, but it definitely needs some fixes and fine-tuning.
