This is a really cool game with a bunch of issues, but still really worth the money. I think it really deserves more attention than its getting.

The Good.

  • cute graphics

  • the units you play with are really different and really encourage you to use different play styles

  • 3 games in one, and each game type lets you earn different types of resources (money, parts, and chips

  • the campaign mode is pretty much a full game all by itself, with both a strategy map and tactical maps whenever there is a fight

TL;DR: If you can overlook the unpolished UX, you’ll get a great game for your money.

This game is very “indie.” By that I mean it definitely lacks a lot of the polish that big-name funding provides. There are copious grammatical errors, although little typos, which leads me to believe it’s more of a translation issue than a proof-reading one. However, everything is understandable, it’s just occasionally a wonky read. Other than that and the unintuitive HUDs, the balance of the game and some of the mechanics feel a bit odd, especially with the multiplayer aspect. I don’t think this could ever have a robust competitive player-base, but it might be enjoyable to play with a friend from time to time.

I found the concept interesting, and given the low price I gave it a shot.

Oh my.

This is an alpha build, at best. The interface is clunky, absolutely unintuitive. Gameplay seems to be shallow, and I have no will to spend more time trying to dive deeper into the mud to be sure. To make things more complicated, the English tooltips and explanations are so badly written that it’s sometimes fairly difficult to understand what it’s supposed to mean (and if you think the same goes for my review, well, what can I say? I’m not from an English speaking country. Oh, and it’s free :D).

Balrum, a game with a great deal of potential, squandered with bad design decisions. To give you an idea of what I mean, think of a 2D MMO similar to Albion, now keep the lackluster combat, and remove the group up mechanics, and interesting skill trees. You will find that this game suffers from the most heinous of video game crimes imaginable. It is boring. It is very boring. And getting through this game is a test of patience and endurance, increased by it’s fairly unforgiving difficulty.

I have tried to be fair. I have tried 3 times to complete the game’s long and epic quest, and truth be told, the narrative is interesting, and full of good twists and turns. If not for the narrative I would have given up on the first try, but the very core aspects of the game are problematic from the beginning, and no matter how much I forgave, and looked for the silver lining, I always found something else that just drove me up another wall.

Something about this game has me seriously hooked. When I’m not playing, I’m usually wishing I was playing. Balrum just scratches an itch for me and is the perfect game for what I want to play right now. A lot of the game isn’t particularly intuitive, but once you’re able to accept some of the rough edges in the UI, it usually plays well.

Balrum’s got a pretty sedate pace, which is a little odd for a game with Hunger, Thirst, and Tiredness meters. But even though the survival mechanics are reasonably well implemented, they simply aren’t strict enough to be problematic once you’re clear of the early game. This isn’t Nethack: as long as you pay a bit of attention and plan slightly ahead, you probably won’t have “starving” be your most common death. Since farming and cooking are important mechanics, it’s not especially hard to keep yourself going. The game is perfectly happy to let you spend some time dawdling. In a bit of a twist, it’s usually your character that pretends they’re in a hurry (“I’ll go do that right away!") and the other characters are much less urgent about the things they ask you to do.

  • The vast crafting system that lets you experiment or craft unique items from recipes that may be found throughout the world.

  • Battles with a wide range of tactical techniques.

  • Realistic damage. Creatures have a complex damage system, including locational damage, bleeding, painkillers, infections and aggravation.

  • Realistic metabolism: fatigue, hunger, dehydration, hypothermia, diseases, intoxication.

  • Mutations: characters affected by the Mist might get their limbs or organs mutated, which will grand them unpredictable effects.

  • Realistic inventory. A complex item management system with both weight and volume limits forces players to carry only what is most necessary to character’s survival.

  • Hexagonal map. Travel through ruins, hills, forests and plains on a hexagonal map. Direct visibility, altitude and daylight affect the viewing distance.

  • Settlements: meet other survivors in their enclaves. They may provide food, rest and medical care. If you have something to give in return.

  • Scouting: use your gear to explore your surroundings.

  • Stealth tactics: search hiding places, use camouflage and ambush your enemy.

  • Hunting: hunt wildfowl for food and fur, or hunt down big ones for rare ingredients.

  • Use your lockpicking skills to open stashes with precious loot.

  • Foraging. Search for edible plants and water sources, and use special skills to determine what is safe to consume.

  • World inhabitants AI. Everything on the map lives its own life. Creatures wander around, gather resources, hunt each other or gather into packs to higher their chances to survive, which means a great danger to the player.

  • Dynamic weather: daytime cycle, temperature, precipitation - and all of that depends on a season. For now, you always start in the middle of the autumn, and if you’re strong enough, you will be able to live until winter.

I find the top review ridicolous on multiple levels, otherwise I wouldn’t bother writing one myself. I will try my best to make it stand on it’s own.

This is a puzzle, adventure and exploration built on grind, trade and fight that varies in difficulty based on your intellect, based on the choices you make regularly.

For starters(this all will only be a start), you have the choice to gather any combination of materials, to craft hundreds of variations of gear.

That means traveling shoes with work gloves or traveling gloves with work shoes.

For the first fifteen levels or so, this game is a cozy, single-player, free-to-play PvE RPG experience, and the community will likely help if you encounter any issues. That much I can recommend trying: it should give you a good idea of whether or not you’d enjoy the game long-term.

Nevertheless, the foundation of the game has several major flaws:

  1. Completing quests requires that you max level all adventure skills: such as subterfuge, academics, perception, etc. You can’t specialize. So, even though the game advertises the freedom to level however you want, in the long run there’s no real choice, because you need -all- the skills. Increasing your primary level also provides no choices. It increases your HP, and perhaps most notably, causes lower-level mobs to ignore you.

Was a huge fan of the first two games, so I was excited about diving into the world of Do&De again. Crafting games aren’t normally my favorite, but this one keeps things simple enough that I can manage (no hunger/thirst meters, THANK YOU), I’m also not a fan of item deterioration, but it makes sense with the crafting. so far I’ve explored 11 different islands. the puzzles are pretty straighforward so far, but the crafting really drags out progressing the story, especially when your weapons and armor break and you have to make new ones.

Many of different islands with challenges and lot of strange monsters to defeat. Crafting is also new thing. You can create all your equipment. Lots of weird potions to kick up your nerds. Being able to build and destroy almost anything. Simply a wonderful adventure for hours. Just Gigawesome game! I also recommend the previous parts which are just as great as this one. I already have, and you?

Olden: Card Game is designed in such a way that every battle will give a different and unique experience. A mix of overpowered and weak cards in your hand and deck will constantly test you and your opponent ability to adapt and make the best out of the current situation. In order to give players a form of individuality and theory crafting outside the match, the game offers unique talent systems per every avatar that will help the player with various perks.

In this battle of entities there is no deck building and no card collecting, so all you need to do in order to enter the match is to choose your avatar and hit the play button.

For now, there is: Entity of Light, Death, Chaos and Life.

Your entity will give your troops a unique bonus during the whole length of the game.

Basic rules

To win the game, the player needs to harvest 300 value points. Your entity receives value points whenever you sacrifice your own cards.

Once your turn begins, you receive 2 tokens: an action token and a draw token. Your options are to:

  • Play a card and build your board presence

or

  • Engage in combat by attacking one of your opponents’ cards

or

  • sacrifice your own card, so you can harvest its current value.

Doing any one of these three things will consume your action token.

To consume your draw token, simply click on the main deck to draw a card, and that’s it.

For now, there are 3 card abilities, effect, passive and combat.

Effect is something that will happen only once, at the moment a card is played by the player. A card’s effect does not trigger in cases where you summon or resurrect it with other cards. Effects take place only if they are played directly from your hand.

A card’s passive ability will be present so long as the chosen card is on the board. Once the card with the passive ability is removed from the board, its passive ability will go away along with it.

Combat ability is something that will only trigger once that card engages in combat with an enemy card.

As mentioned, you can use your turn to perform an attack action and engage in combat. To perform an attack, simply place your card on the top of the opponent card. After one turn, your card value number will sink its value into the opposing card. If your card has enough value to destroy your opponent’s card, it will do so, and then it will return to your side of the board.

If your card does not have enough value to destroy an opponent’s card, it will do its damage after one turn, and then be destroyed.

You can engage in combat with cards that are already on the board, or with the cards from your hand.

One card can be attacked by multiple cards at the same time.

To win the game, a player needs to harvest 300 value points. Players can harvest value points by sacrificing their own cards that are not currently in combat. To perform a card sacrifice, select your card, and then click on its respective altar. Performing a card sacrifice will consume your action token.
