The game I wanted to love but hated every part of.

–DO NOT BUY–

Seriously don’t. Watch the walkthrough and keep in mind that the poster knows exactly where they are going and they still get lost. There is only one thing I hate more than not having directions or knowing what I should be doing in a game, and that is consulting Youtube to find out. After hours of directionless time wasted I could not finish the game without Youtube.

So I tested in on my friend’s kids to see if it was just me. Nope! Boys ages 8 and 13 both got to the point they did not want to play. They got stuck on the exact same things I did and I would not let them use Youtube to figure it out. I even offered prizes if they could finish the game while offering to help with some of the jump challenges. I believe the younger one cheated when he went home at night, but then so did I, thus I cannot blame him.

I bought Phoning Home at full price and was a little hesitant about it based on some of the reviews I’ve seen, but ultimately, I thoroughly enjoyed the game and thought it was well worth the full $20.

Pros

  • GREAT voice acting. Seriously, I cannot applaud the voice acting enough. Just fantastic.

  • Beautiful environments. The environment you’re wandering through is consistently gorgeous, and I personally didn’t find it repetitive or difficult to navigate in the least. Landmarks were significant enough to stand out and be memorable, and there were usually a few places that became a quick indicator of where I was in the map. Reaching

! the desert for the first time absolutely stunned me when I saw how vast it was.
