Dracula’s Castle

Dracula’s Castle

Manage the castle by expanding it, then build and unlock new rooms granting new mechanics to explore. The Alchemist will allow you to equip Dracula with mystical tools, unlock the bat cave to improve Dracula’s Mist Form. The more you expand, the more your labour force can grow. You’ll need to grow your army of servants in order to accumulate enough soil to sail to England on the Demeter.

Travel Transylvania by night but watch out for Van Helsing. Stalk the towns of Transylvania, on the hunt for fresh blood, or attempt to overwhelm them to gain powerful bonuses. Feast, recruit laborers or “invite” a guest to the castle, the choice is yours. You’ll need to entrap Jonathan Harker to fulfill Dracula’s dark designs.

Grow Dracula’s power the way you want to. Dracula possesses different attributes such as Power, Cunning, Speed, Charm and Magick. Choose which ones to train and equip the right relics for your build. Build new monsters at the Alchemist’s Lab utilising recipes found in the Necronomicon! Craft or acquire new gear throughout your adventure.

Engage angry mobs, town militia and even dedicated vampire hunters in exciting tactical turn-based combat. Leverage Dracula’s powerful abilities and forms to outwit and overwhelm the enemy. The spoils of battle are yours! Hand over curios and materiel to the Castle Alchemist to craft new items and raise new monsters to join Dracula’s dark menagerie.

Follow the early plot of Bram Stoker’s masterpiece, the main goal centers around Jonathan Harker, Van Helsing and the trip to Carfax Abbey in England; but plenty needs doing in the dark corners of Transylvania. Engage in various side-quests given to you by Death and other denizens of the castle as you work on building up Dracula’s regional power.

BARRICADEZ

BARRICADEZ

BarricadeZ takes place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, where the only things left are monsters, and you, a robot. Yet, there’s a tiny spark of hope falling from the sky; a baby. Now you have to get to work, because of course the monsters are after the little bundle of joy.

You have to build your own defenses, and that’s the meat of the game. The gathering and crafting system reminds me a bit of Terraria (to name one), and is nicely done, imo. During the night the monsters will test your design for you, and failure is definitely not an option. Remember the defenseless baby?

It’s ok but definitely not worth $20; get it on sale. Technically a 2D Tower Defense game. There is fun to be had in finding a base design that works for you, lots of options and flexibility. But some very questionable design choices concerning the mining/resource gathering you’ll be doing a lot of underground. You might think that you would be splitting your time between topside and the mine; being topside during the nightly attack waves. You’d be wrong for the most part.

The clock is always ticking (except for pauses during daylight to build/upgrade your base) and you will eventually realize that the game actively punishes you for being topside during attacks at all. That is precious time you could be spending downstairs gathering resources that you need. Now early on, maybe being topside in battle might be useful to scrape by some in-battle repairs between waves. But by day 30 or so of a 78 day campaign when you have enough resources to be well established, there is no good reason to be topside at all. Good defenses will require virtually no active maintenance at all aside from a swift repair visit come daylight. Your war effort is actually crippled by wasting time topside during attacks when you could otherwise still be mining. This means that to play “well”, you must never waste time being up in your base during battle - which is really strange for a TD game. Watching mobs march through your death trap is kinda half the fun of a TD at all and here it is very strongly discouraged to do so. Expect two thirds of this game to be straight up Terraria mining, only the mines get very boring, very quickly. There is some mystery in “Is there a bottom to this mine?"; don’t bet on it, even when you think you’ve found it.

Did you like Pirates? Do you like turn-based combat? Do you like random maps and exploring?

Then this game could be something for you. For an early access Indie title, it’s got surprisingly good graphics (especially the sea), a real story in single player mode, and some funny mystic creatures. There’s a touch of Age of Wonders, but the battles are less tactical.

POSITIVE

  • good graphics

  • mystic creatures pimp the pirates scenario

  • nice story (no Heavy Rain, though)

  • high replay value (random quests, random maps, hotseat mode)

Looks amazing, nice atmosphere and unique interesting game mechanics. I like it!

You know where the journey is heading. With some little improvements in EA and more content I will be able to put hours in this :)!

Good strategy will lead you to your victory and will demolish your friends, but don’t forget about the immersive story though. Good price for a good game! Go on like this.

I’ve never played these tycoon/ management games, not even as a kid so when looking for something new to play I came across this and I have to say I’m very impressed, not disappointed in the slightest.

Game

Ever wanted to know what it’s like to run your own business? Well here’s a chance. Start-up Company is a business simulation game that’s is published and developed by Hovgaard Games, the first game they have ever made I believe. In Start-up Company you are the CEO of a brand-new company and your role is to manage the company as well as build up your website and compete against other companies.

THIS IS NOT A MANAGEMENT OR SIMULATION GAME AT ALL!!!!!!

I will preface my now negative review by saying if you enjoy a more casual experience or fancy an advanced take on the “clicker game” concept then by all means have at it. I am not going to say the game is bad because what it does it is fine, but it is misrepresented and being sold as something it is not and the tags it comes under are no longer true.

As of 30/10/2018 I have been booted from the Discord community during a conversation where I had been ASKED what my issues were and was having a convo with another member, the dev (Jonas) saw this as me “bashing his game” which considering HE is the one who chose to change the direction he originally sold it as is NOT my problem.

Automation Empire

I wanted to like this game, I really did. I put in a bunch of time so I could experience all versions and content of the game. Here is some of what I noticed:

1: There is no need to progress beyond steel plates and gold, you can win every map by using only those 2 material exports.

2: Every map is absolutely 100% identical when it comes to resources. They all have the same amount of iron, coal, gold and oil nodes.

3: Late game means severe and I do mean severe lag. 1 frame/2 seconds is not out of the ordinary on a game load.

Real player with 333.9 hrs in game

First I thoroughly enjoy this game, and it does have its ups and downs, but I cannot recommend it more highly.

I would like to address my opinion on what most negative reviews have to say. These are my opinion only. YMMV.

  1. it is not a sandbox or an optimization game. It is a puzzle race against the clock.

  2. It is NOT Factorio, that’s not a fault, it is just different. Why make a clone of another game?

  3. It does not have blueprints. - Part of the gameplay is to continually rebuild factories in new and different styles to match each level of tech you unlock, staying ahead of the tax curve. Blueprints would reduce this part of game play into cloning rubber stamps all over the map, and limits creativity and ingenuity.

Judgment: Apocalypse Survival Simulation

Judgment: Apocalypse Survival Simulation

This is probably the game I played the longest while still being unsure if it is actually good. And I didn’t even finish it.

Story

J:A.S.S is a base-building survival simulation as the name suggests. There was a zombie demon apocalypse, you and a few others have survived the initial carnage but now you have to ensure your longterm survival. Maybe you can even find out what happened and if you can fix it!

Gameplay

Gameplay is divided between classic base building - farm food and resources, craft advanced materials, provide everything for your group of survivors, build defenses - and combat, which is itself divided between defending your camp and exploring different locations for materials and for clues about what happened to cause all of this.

Real player with 176.5 hrs in game

TL/DR: Judgement simulator mixes Xcom’s unforgiving struggle for survival while capturing alot of the base-building and character nuance of rimworld. It’s intense and wild at first, but eventually becomes dull by not maintaining the level of challenge. Unforgiving, and not for the faint of heart.

I’m reserving judgement on this one for now (no pun intended). It’s a good skeleton of a game, but missing content in terms of story missions, and weak variety of enemies and gear. Awesome vision, but only good (read: above average, but not great) implementation. Sometimes I think I’m harder on good games with untapped potential, than on bad games; I may be leaning that way on this one. They say a full release is coming in the next few months with new enemies and story missions, along with a price increase, so I’ll probably have to re-evaluate this review after I see what it looks like.

Dredgers

Dredgers

This is tough, because I love this game and it’s concept. It’s so fun! I have a lot of praise for it.

Unfortunately, I feel like I can’t recommend it at this time for two reasons:

  1. Missing basics like any type of saving, which pretty much everything I’ve played since the days of shareware has had, seems quite sloppy. The display of the amount of hours I’ve played isn’t really correct: most of that has been on pause because I didn’t want to exit and lose all my progress on the run.

  2. Do you know how my last run ended? No? Neither do I. Based on all the information I had, it didn’t make sense. Many key things are just not explained, so new players are going to go through several baptisms by fire, creating a lot of frustration.

Real player with 152.5 hrs in game

Pretty solid roguelike with emphasis on speedy playthroughs and choosing your next step, though that can be its weakness too. Its big selling points are the 30+ races and crazy class combinations which are very very satisfying to play with, as well as actual honest-to-god necromancy where you can have a zombie horde if you want. Or you could skip zombies altogether, dominate the minds of your enemies, send them at your foes, blow up their (animate or inanimate) corpses into a huge mess when they die and then revive them and your former foes as skeletons. Full crafter build is viable, and thats before we get onto races. Pretty much anything that spawns in the dungeon is something you can unlock and play pretty quickly. Only exception afaik is the slime MAN (you can be a regular slime) but I suspect that’ll be implemented in time.

The Last Haven

The Last Haven

Even in early access this game is smooth, basically bug free and is fun to play. Highly recommend if you’re a fan of the genre.

Expanded Review: Okay, so the game is still awesome and I still recommend it. The devs are supporting it with what seems regular updates and it’s still solid. However, I’m about 20hrs into play and have started over multiple times just because I kept thinking “maybe if I do it this way” anyways, what I’ve run in to that put a damper on things is this:

  1. It seems to take wayyyy too long to research things. Way too long.

Real player with 205.5 hrs in game

So i have reached day 226 and even though i like the game a lot, there is much needed improvements before i can recommend this.

so see below for my recommendations.

  1. You cant add equipment to soldiers unless they are already wearing it (i have had helmets in my warehouse but they wont put it on for ages) be nice if we could tell to go one.

2)Upon soldiers death you lose all equipment maybe you keep there ammo or the odd gun drops but what about helmet/body armour?

3)Prison should be for problem ppl or enemy after awhile you should be able to recruit the enemy or get you problem pp, back.

Not a bad game, from what i understand so far its limited being a new game and all so i expect alot more in future but for now its pretty fun and alittle addictive for me the only thing is dislike so far which really takes away form game is lack of instructions the base tutorial pop ups were great but going further no direction I find mysel asking

Why do my ppl keep dying even when i have food and safety

Do i need 20 homes for a large population or can i upgrade existing to hold more people. game lacks small details so im just doing whatever hoping for best overall great game and i have found little wrong with it so far.

I just started the game, but can see a lot of potential! The developer is very passionate and invested in this game and you can tell. It seems as though if you don’t get featured as a big indie game on steam, it’s hard to get reviews, and I wanted to give a shout out for this one. I’m looking forward to supporting the developer as he continues the game. I read a comment on one of the discussion boards that was pretty nasty, saying the game looked like another game, and honestly, you can say that about so many games out there. It’s the way in which a game is developed, and particularly when the developer cares and listens to feedback, that can make a game feel different and fun.
