I wish I could recommend this game but I just can’t in good conscience. It’s a fun and novel idea that I jumped into after discovering that my owning Car Mechanic Simulator 2018 (CMS from here on) gave me a small PlayWay loyalty discount, but it’s very much held back by some questionable design decisions and somewhat limited amount of content.

First, the Good

  • All of the mechs look decent (albeit small) and unique and have a surprising amount of detail in the components that can be detached. repaired, and reattached.

I could not start a new game at first. An integrity check on the files showed that half of the download was not good. Re Downloaded those files and now I am running all Ultra settings.

Short Version: This game could become an awesome Mech Mechanic Sim. Right now it is lacking. I will support the game and not return it because I can see that it may advance over time.

Details:

  1. It does not make me feel like a mechanic. It feels more like a search and find game or a memory game. When I have taken apart or assembled items I always lay the parts out so that I am sure on assembly that I have not missed anything. Part of feeling like I am progressing is that eventually I can dump the parts out and do a full assembly in 30 minutes without looking at a diagram. In Mech mechanic there is no way to get that feeling. When you disassemble you can see the part you need to get to thanks to the scan. To get there though you move your mouse around waiting on a part to turn green. Then you select that part and see if you can wiggle it off - no? well now you look for the screws or retaining part and remove that. now you wiggle the part off - rinse repeat. Seek and Find. After doing that to the same arm on the same mech you might could get that “muscle memory” built up over time but wait - Sometimes when you take it a part you unscrew the part but when you assemble it you have to select the part and it attaches itself automatically. That lack of consistency actually breaks the muscle memory and makes you feel like you are doing it wrong. All parts you unscrew on disassemble should have you screw it back on in assembly.

Craftica: Building Your Wonderland

Craftica is a creative sandbox game with ultra high degrees of freedom for building. It supports deformable voxels and subvoxels at multiple scales so that smooth objects can be built in realistic scales, and makes it possible to build very elegant architectures.

Craftica provides a large number of electronic and mechanical as well as other related device items, allowing players to build sophisticated circuits and circuit-controlled electronic and mechanical devices. Players can even build vehicles, aircrafts, robots and computers etc. high-tech objects from items as basic as logical gates.

Deformable Voxel and Subvoxels

In Craftica the basic voxel is a full cube and the subvoxels are partial cubes with one or more corner chopped off.

The voxels and subvoxels are deformable, and can be made more round or less round by hammer tools.

The support of deformable voxels and subvoxels in Craftica makes it possible to create much smoother objects in this game than in other voxel-based sandbox games.

Also the voxel and subvoxels in Craftica are supported at multiple size levels, so that fine structures can be represented at a scale comparable to the real world.

As an example, Craftica has very good support for East Asian architectures, and includes a large number of standard structures with East Asian architecture styles.

In Craftica, subvoxels are also used to smooth the procedurally generated terrain. And terrain and objects imported from Minecraft Schematic files are also smoothed using subvoxels.

Smart Placement of Blocks and Items

Craftica is designed to allow intuitive construction of objects using subvoxels, and supports consistent operations for placing basic blocks (voxels and subvoxels) and items.

Craftica also supports rule-based placement. When an object item is being placed near another object, if there is a predefined rule to determine a proper placement for the object in relative the other, the rule will be used to calculate the proper placement location and orientation.

In-Scene Crafting

Item crafting in Craftica can be done in the scene, using formulas that are structural and intuitive.

Device Items

Craftica provides a number of standard mechanical and electronic device items that can be used to build complex circuit as well as machines that can be controlled by circuits.

Circuits in this game emulates those in the real world with great simplifications. Like circuits in the real world, Craftica uses physical connection between components to construct functional circuits. These circuits are mainly powered by electric energy and driven by data exchanges.

Village

In Craftica worlds, some places are generated with villages. Each village is generated with a few houses and at least one workshop and one defensive fort or tower, and spawns with at least one warrior to defend the village.

The relationship between a village and a player is characterized by affinity. Affinity can be zero, positive or negative, indicating a neutral, friendly or hostile relationship.

The affinities between villages and player(s) are initialized randomly. Normally, there will be more neutral villages than friendly and hostile ones, and more friendly ones than hostile ones. Their actual percentages may vary according to game modes and difficulty levels.

Trade

When a positive affinity reaches certain levels, the player will have free access to some village structures and storages (different structures and storages may have different affinity thresholds). And when a negative affinity reaches a certain level, the village warrior will actively attack the player.

Trading with villagers or defending the village against hostile mobs will improve the affinity between the player and the village. On the other hand, attacking villagers will deteriorate the affinity.

Survival

In survival mode, barbarians and other hostile mobs will be generated. They will attack the player and villages. The only way to survive is to fight back or run!

Model Importing

In addition to the creative and survival modes, Craftica supports an experimental development mode. In this mode, the player can import external models into the game worlds.

The player can either choose a Minecraft Schematic file (currently only .schematic file is supported, .schem file will be supported the upcoming updates) to import when creating a new game in the development mode:

The game is easy to learn, you gather resources, build your base and then build crafting and utility stations. The game looks good and once you have built your first mech (scout mech) the pace of the game move a lot faster. But the game is still in early access so there are still some bugs in the game. Multiplayer still need some optimization since it has to reset a bit too often. In single-player mode, the android faction (ennemy) is not fully operational and the end game is not implemented yet. Also, if you want to play multiplayer there are not a lot of people playing the game right now (and they are mostly playing on the staging server (test server), which you can join if you want) because of the problem mention above but once the game is released out of early access people will come back and new players will play the game. Also, the developers are now working on the game part-time so it can be a while before the game is released out of early access. So, buy it if you want to support the development of the game and don’t mind waiting for the finish game or put the game on your wish list to buy it on the next sale or when it is fully released.

honeymoon period is over

I can’t recommend at this point. Communication is super bad on steam. Last patch 10 days ago and no word whats going on. It feels like a pre-alpha launch and the first patch caused more troubles than it solved. Overpriced EA. Overall the projectmanagement - especially communication - feels super amateurish. Servers are already empty and i suggest to only come back if they actually pull smth out of their hat.

Patch is out. Your base doesn’t seem to diasappear - as long you don’t build around reboot time. But most of the issues are still there like empty corpses and getting stuck or the market exploits. Now and then also server crashes. With a couple hours runtime, servers are almost unplayable. Especially when lots of ppl are on which is a sign that not all mem leaks are fixed. Also fellow faction members are able to glitch through doors and steal your stuff since everybody can loot your containers.

Sky Break by Farsky Interactive is a farcry from an openworld survival game. I have to admit, I loved the artwork, and the idea behind it. Man against machine. against nature; now that would have been a survial game! Unfortunately what was seen in early development was completely scraped for the sake of simplicity. I understand the K.I.S.S. motto; however Farsky oversimplified so much that they lost their driving theme. This was supposed to be a hostile world, where the storms raged, the oxygen was thin, and every mecha was out for blood. Before launch you had to fight the gatherer mecha for precious resources to upgrade your sky base. All of that natural conflict, and personal customization gone! Now it’s more like a romp in the wilderness to pick flowers with your wee woodland friends.

Sky Break does so many things right, it’s easy to be tricked into thinking there’s depth to the game. The graphics are great, the story sounds interesting, there’s shooting and pets and crafting and skills to level up and exploration and a sky fortress… but none of these things really extend beyond their superficial appearance.

To elaborate on each of those points:

  • Story: There’s 8 journals, 2 screenshot & text-based cutscenes, and a few lines of monologue from the character. That’s approximately 20 paragraphs of story total.

Bugs? Mechs? Hell. Yes.

Stonefly is a wonderful little game that gives a chill adventure and an experience that left me smiling with the evident charm throughout. Though it has it’s rough edges the developers at Flight School Studio clearly put a lot of heart into it, and I sincerely wish them the best with whatever they do going forward.

Visuals: Much like with their previous title; Creature In the Well, Stonefly has an incredibly unique artstyle that on top of being eye-candy really helps lend to the overall moods of environments you see throughout the game. Much of my time spent in Stonefly outside of the gameplay was just gliding around to take in the setting. Additionally, character designs (and mech designs) all have little quirks that create all sorts of charming little flares that I can’t help but smile at whenever I see. Color schemes as a whole are pleasant and nothing ever grates on the eyes. Even with the chaos that can happen with the amount of bugs you’ll sometimes fight on screen the visuals manage to not appear so overwhelming as to clutter the player.

Stonefly is a rather short game. I made it 9 hours in, with about a half hour of time accumulated from time spent paused, but the game was running.

I have yet to complete it, but I’m VERY CLOSE to being done. I’ve got to unlock only two more parts, otherwise all the abilities are maxed out.

The enemies consist of a handful of body types, and a few variants there in either taking more hits (denoted as dots) and/or just in that they hit with a different type of damage. There is acid good, flame goo, and some kind of purple stuff. There are two main flying type enemies, spiders that can hit you mid air with a jump up then wide range sawblade spin, units that stay on the ground and fire very accurate shots, and ones that have more defense and lob big burst shots, and ones that just ram you.

I HAVE mixed opinions with the game, on the one hand it seems to me an excellent game with very good mechanics in most cases (not all, some are grossly absurd) I like the customization of the character that is not extensive but for a 2d game it is good, a large map that invites you to discover it, but now come the negative points that unfortunately are many:

1 / some mechanics do not make much sense, things like artificial firewood logs have a relatively high cost in the early game phase for the small amount and the time they last to burn, in terms of the medium, wild creatures with absurd damage, A javali takes 1/4 of your life with a tier 4 armor, armor and durability system too short, I understand that it is a game that encourages crafting but they pass in terms of the durability of weapons, armor and several other things.

Short version

A pretty polished game for an Early Access title. PvP are pretty much a full-fledged game at this point, PvE however still needs some late game contents. Download the demo and try it for 8 hrs and judge it for yourself.

Long version

GRAPHICS : I gotta be honest, my first impression of Cryofall is not that great. The character and animation felt kind of “cheap”, like the type of designs you often sees in Freemium mobile games. There’s a variety of avatar faces to choose from, but they all have the same default “idle” expression. They’re by no means “ugly”, just a tad bit uninspired. The environmental, structure and creature designs however, looks great. You can tell the artist puts a lot of time and effort into it, plus the character design started to grow on me after a couple of hours of gameplay. So, eh. It’s alright.

Would I recommend this game to others? At this exact point, probably not.

Please do not get me wrong, Evospace is a good (but not great) game, and I would love to rewrite a review if (and when) it becomes a great game.

I’ll start with the upsides: This is minecraft on steroids. The energy systems (electrical, kinetic, hydraulic, pneumatic) are amazing. Evospace also has excellent designs for material movement, material storage and automation capabilities. The thing I love the most is how close to metallurgical exactness and manufacturing processes it hits. In these, Evospace is beyond amazing.

tl:dr; 8/10 in current, under-developed form. Lots of potential. Worth it at twice the price in the “as is” state.

Evospace is a promising little factory management game - like a 3D factorio. While it’s still pretty early in development, it’s also quite inexpensive right now, features enough content to offer several interesting hours of play as is, and has enormous potential.

It’s got your complexity fix for sure. With fluids and solids logistics and electricity, the core concerns are similar to factorio and already exceed Fortresscraft Evolved (another 3D factorio-like game). However, machines themselves are often multi-part. They aren’t built with their own drive mechanisms or internal heating, so a furnace chamber or engine - complete with their own fuel/power source needs - are also required.

The only reason I have 7.3 hours of Wrath of Anna logged (woefully making it impossible to try to get a refund..) is that I left the game alt-tabbed after it failed to boot up an online match (but seemed to freeze and never loaded the main menu again) and I left to go do something else, forgetting about it.

Look closely at the footage in this game’s trailer. No interaction is shown with any enemy, object, or NPCs, instead the player character is mindlessly meandering through the environments, occassionally ducking and staring at something in the distance. You will get all of this and nothing more if you choose to spend your money on Wrath of Anna. Wrath of Anna is perhaps best summarized by one of the screenshots the dev has selected in the preview images, a stairway to nowhere, shrouded in fog. This game has a cool setting but is completely devoid of anything of substance.

I was given this game for free very early on in its development. Every once in a while I will reinstall it to see what is going on with it, and so far it seems like the DEV can’t quite make up their mind on what they want this game to be. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, since it might show their willingness to move away from their initial plans for this game.

When I first tried this game it was very rough. It seemed to mainly be an early attempt at a large scale PVP game similiar to CSGO. However, the game was extremely rough and I was never able to actually play with anyone. You had to manually input IP addresses, so no… there was also mentions of a single player story mode. Initially this game page had screenshots of mechs and something that looked like a giant sandworm. Those screenshots have now been replaced with screenshots of what look like the beginning of an attempt to make another survival game.
