Forklift Load

As you can probably tell by my hours played, I like this game. It’s a nice way to sit back and chill out. I just did my first speedrun of it, clocking in at around an hour and a half. I plan on getting faster. Overall, it’s the perfect speedrunning game with lots to discover, some nice music, and a world that’s kind of nice behind all the jankiness of the physics.

Except the jump upgrade mission, that one can burn.

I 100% it in one 6 hour extended playthrough. So it’s not exactly a long game, though not easy ether. Especially a certain rooftop mission.., anyway it’s impressive for a project that I think was made by one dude though overall it is very rough around the edges. Like on a technical level there are a lot of glitches and bugs. That said the word that comes to mind when trying to describe this game is artful.

There is something about the whole experience that was simply enchanting to me. It may be flawed but it most certainly is a work of art (and a fun game with decent challenge to boot). I haven’t played anything quite like it.

Bought the game for the style, stayed for the depth. TLDR: Overall great game, but the UI could use some polish.

The style really has the nostalgia of a classic RPG where you wander the map and get into fights. The animations and artistic design is very well polished.

Being a fan of MOBAs, like DOTA, I really like the process of thinking through party composition, skill progression, and level/gear priority. This game really forces you to make decisions about these changes in order to succeed at the higher difficulties. Just beat Entropy II at 76 hours of messing around. The game has just enough random chance that it is fun, but not so much that you feel like your success is strictly a result of chance.

I’ll be looking at this game from the perspective of an SRPG vet, including Fire Emblem, DD, XCOM, etc.

-VISUALS-

This game is a treat.

There really is no other way to say it, I’m not sure pixel art and pixel art animation has ever been done better. The subtle 3D effects on certain aspects just makes it all the better. The environments, both out of battle and in it, are stunning every time. The animations are overall very pleasant with some nice weight accentuated by the screen shake and camera movement.

Howdy! Soon your ship will land in Moonshine Gulch and you’ll assume the exciting role of MECH FARMER. The colony was established to extract precious minerals from below the planet’s surface - some people say the heavy machinery used is aggravating the local fauna and causing attacks but that’s not gonna get in the way of profits! Besides, you’ll have a mini-gun on your left arm, a flamethrower on your right and rocket launchers sitting on top of that 20 ton mech of yours, so quit ya belly achin'! Just keep the colonists fed and alive, OK? And don’t be putting crazy notions in their heads, like the company is only interested in money and doesn’t care about them - we don’t want a rebellion on our hands, do we?!

Story

The first half of the game doesn’t have much plot beyond clearing game boards because of the protagonist’s curiosity, though there is some lore about the previous heroine. The second half has more lore and more stakes, as well as several plot bombshells. While I did like the story of the second half, I can see the lack of real conflict in the first half turning new players off before they can get to the better half.

Gameplay

The first few parts of the game make it hard to gather any resources. Enemies don’t drop money and they aren’t guaranteed to drop sellable items, meaning the player is stuck in a resource drought situation if they try to do traditional grinding. This can be intimidating because in the beginning, the only way to fully recover the robot is to pay 10 cents, which means inefficient gameplay can result in waste of limited money. The resource situation does get better in the later parts of the game, since the player can find free healing/save statues and an accessory that increases the drop rate.

An easy but very nice RPG game. Its style really attracts me, and maybe anyone who loves ‘nostalgia’.

And if you love collecting things, or riddling, this game can be unexpectedly a little hard for you.

BTW bugs are seen too often, and the scene called ‘Sesame Hideout’ even disappears! Hope it can be fixed sooner.
