Snowdome

Note: I received a Steam key to help with alpha testing although I had no involvement with the development.

Snowdome is a kinetic visual novel developed by Lunatic Works and published by Lunatic Works and Kikai Digital. You take on the role of Tan Yan, a young adult who works as a convenience store clerk in the city. He lives his life day-to-day, feeling unappreciated and that life will never change. He moved away from the country, as he didn’t want to become a farmer like his parents before him. One day, when Tan Yan decides to take a walk on the beach (because his TV is broken, so he can’t watch his favorite show), he encounters a teenage girl. She makes him an intriguing offer. Help me save the world. This piques Tan Yan’s interest and thus, his adventure begins. As this is a kinetic novel, I’ll stop my story synopsis here to avoid spoilers. ^^

This was my first kinetic novel, no choices to make, just read and think about some of the subjects that are thrown up in the story. The reader can make their own mind about how deep or how seriously they want to take this. I found it easy to get involved with the characters, to understand the frustrations of trying to earn a living in a city where everyone lives the same boring life-style and where young people and their parents do not understand one another. The protagonist, a reluctant hero, goes for a walk and meets a young girl one summer’s night when his tv breaks down, and thats when it all starts as he has to grow up and make life decisions that have consequences not just for himself, but other people. I can’t say more without giving away the plot.

Grayscale Memories

Grayscale Memories

Aesthetically, this game is gorgeous. The soundtrack flows well with the ethereal artwork. The dialogue is where it falls short as it can be pretty juvenile in a way that feels heavy-handed despite the game’s attempt to be seemingly abstract and thought-provoking otherwise, although if you have played JRPGs, then this is par for the course and can even be endearing to a degree as you progress.

Despite the ostensibly heavy subject matter, this game is far too short to convey any real depth on the topic of death and the afterlife. I had hoped to glean something about who the characters were in life, but of course that was expecting too much given the brevity of the story. The remaining problem is the conclusion is abrupt and nonsensical after the buildup throughout the game, leaving a rather anticlimactic sense of frustration on my part. As this is Early Access, it’s possible the “ending” will be expanded according to the informational post. If that occurs, I will update my review accordingly.

Sakura Knight 3

Sakura Knight 3

A closing chapter to the Knight series developed by the Winged Cloud. Does it end with a bang or whimper?

The story follows the events of the previous instalment so if you have not played it yet you might be a bit lost. This is the most linear part and focuses on just one story line. Despite being short pacing is rather slow mainly due to the frequent yuri padding. It honestly feels a bit forced, moreso than in the prequels. The is really only one ending and just the final scene vary; scene with your chosen waifu or a harem. Writing style, just like before, feels relatively fine. Some less common words were employed but overall it is an easy read. Still silly fantasy yuri with a dose of comedy. Liked the previous parts? If yes, then you can expect more of the same enjoyment.

Sakura Knight 3 wasn’t the worst in the series, given that at least it had somethig to tell unlike part 2.

What really dissapointed me was the complete lack of a mildly interesting story overall like Sakura MMO had, almost no twist, nothing.

I really liked the first part, it had pottential. it’s a shame they couldn’t give these girls a story that wasn’t this kind of a uninteresting mess. CGS and sex scenes have great art as usual, but in need of an urgent change, that is to make them more explicit, these ended up being dull and boring most of the time, even more so than Sakura MMO.

Fragments

Fragments

Fragments is a game of exploration, a game of mystery, a game of games. You know who you are. But that’s pretty much it. Everything else is a blur, an enigma, a puzzle waiting for you to put it together.

But wait? Is there more to it than that? There are detectives questioning you at every turn, a limitation on information being directly provided to you, a murder to be solved that you may or not be able to help with.

Codapill has done a great job of putting together an intriguing story that demands attention, with a rip-roaring ending that entirely depends upon the choices you make. I hugely recommend giving this one a try, it’ll be a few hours definitely not wasted!

“Fragments” is a short, but intriguing narrative suspense story that gives you all the answers you need right from the start. Your job, as the confused protagonist, is to put the fragments of your mind back together again in order to come to terms with the reason you’ve ended up in the position you are in. Through flashbacks and clever visuals, explore the “prison” in Evan’s mind with a particular attention to detail and speak your truth. If the idea of seeing alternate endings and dialogue branches aren’t enough to keep you coming back to the game, the catchy, original soundtrack might do the trick; you’ll be singing it for days after playing.

Another of those visual novels that people love, hate, or love to hate, Would you like to run an idol cafe? 2 is by Winged Cloud, authors of the Sakura series. In this one, you continue your attempts to keep the idol cafe afloat. Now, you face a little competition. Do you stay faithful to those you wooed in the first game, or do you stray?

Suggest getting on discount or in the bundle (maybe both). While decent enough, it is a bit short.
