Gaslamp Cases: The Deadly Machine:

The year is 1882 and you are one of the most reputable detectives in London. You and your partner have been sent to a location where suspicious activity has been noticed. As you both look for clues, the building you find yourselves in explodes with extreme ferocity. You somehow manage to find your way out of the rubble, but there is no sign of your partner and his body is never recovered. This event takes a massive toll on the people of London, who now question the efficacy of the police department. Soon after, having been blamed for the death of your partner, you are demoted, although still part of the police force. You are assigned a new partner who has, shall we say, unethical methods of solving crimes. Your first investigation is to find the dog of one of the most prominent people in London. But then you find yourself on the trail of a criminal who wants to blow London to pieces, in Gaslamp Cases: The Deadly Machine.

--- ### Introduction Quite some time has passed since my last review for a title focusing on hacking and other covert activities. It’s a relatively narrow niche, rather than a full-fledged strategic subgenre. In any case, I enjoy such breaks from norm and regard Digital Siege as a slightly more complex tower defense game, to put things into perspective. As in most situations, the best defense can only be offense. Developer Dreambakers had a prolific debut year, as Digital Siege is their sixth consecutive project released in 2018\. Just as they describe themselves, I agree on their focus for “experimental games” transcending genre boundries. Intelligence gathering may a pill that’s harder to swallow by some, but it’s a crucial activity nonetheless. As with most “commodities”, what you do with the information afterwards is far more important than stockpiling it, so to speak. Its value never decreases, no matter the parties involved. *– [Real player with 2.8 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198152760885)* --- ![During Before And After COVID-19](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1509630/header.jpg "") ## During Before And After COVID-19 Waste of time and money… *– [Real player with 1.1 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198128063651)* Its kinda Cool, looked Simple, NIce Jumpscare. *– [Real player with 0.9 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198066818187)* --- ![Wake out of Twilight](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1562830/header.jpg "") ## Wake out of Twilight You, Jesse, are a fortunate employee at a massive company that helps supply many less fortunate people with fulfilling jobs. The game feels a bit like what you'd get if "Scratches" and "Dear Esther" had a love child. The game marries the best features of both to create a rare style of exploration-based adventure game that you don't see very often. (I wish we saw games like this constantly). The first half of the game is very, very strong. Fantastic atmosphere, a real sense of exploration and wonder, an excellent union of beauty with a sense of the decrepit, and an impied mystery left entirely to your own imagination – you'll most likely start to ask yourself, "What the hell happened here?" Answering that question is arguably the main plot, but is left entirely to the player. In terms of finishing the game, you can completely ignore that aspect of the game and focus only on the puzzles instead. This gives a true touch of realism to the game, as you're FAR from hit over the head with the story. It's fantastically there, but the option exists to go about your business nearly oblivious to it. *– [Real player with 87.3 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198036649624)* Response to developers below: Very disappointing game. There isn't actually much to do and not many places to explore and the tasks are tedious and annoying with no real point to any of it. The ending made zero sense. So all in all a waste of time sadly.. I liked the feel of it and had real hope for this as a game but as I was putting nails into a bit of wood for no good reason, I realised I was not really having fun. I hoped the ending would bring it all together, but it was just a boring slog round a mine then a pointless cut scene. Not worth the money. *– [Real player with 10.3 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198827818508)* --- ![Cybermere](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1697790/header.jpg "") ## Cybermere I like the idea of the game and the graphics, however, the way to play is too confusing with the game offering the bare minimum of advice for example it will tell you what each item does but it does not explain in what order to use them in or how they affect what your doing. The very first mission I played I had to pretty much guess my way though it the first time I hacked the node it took 3 minutes of real time the second time I restarted my campaign and did it again it took 32min of real time and the game does not tell you what affects it. *– [Real player with 3.1 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198129950140)* --- ![Kiss Upload](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1181430/header.jpg "") ## Kiss Upload Kiss Upload is a futuristic-themed romance visual novel. It features four involved story paths with even more outcomes. You play as Tobias, who begins the story in present time, living a below-average life on his own. After receiving a flyer from the owner of an innovative company, Tobias decides to participate in a life-changing science experiment which would land him 500 years in the future. That is, if all goes according to plan. In Kiss Upload, you can choose between three female and one male love interest. Each are connected to various sides of a conflict. Will you take the side of the FBI? Or will you side with a robotics engineer who calls herself a mad scientist? Maybe you’ll fall for a cute robot. The choice is yours. --- ![NUTS](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/768450/header.jpg "") ## NUTS Nuts is a fantastic little game with fantastic art and sound design. I played the demo when it was released and immediately fell in love with the look and feel of the game. The best way I can think to explain the extreme appeal of this game to ME is that it feels like you are occupying a liminal space. Like you are on the threshold of two planes of existence. From the desolate bus stop that you initially arrive at to the wide empty forests with these strange little squirrels being the only living things besides yourself… it’s strange, perhaps even a bit eerie in later chapters, but overall peaceful. *– [Real player with 4.2 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198063349189)* I feel like I am the perfect audience for this game—I love Firewatch, Gone Home and almost all first-person adventures / walking simulators. Recently I've enjoyed Call of the Sea and Old Gods Rising, despite their flaws. But Nuts left me very unsatisfied. The success of a game like this rests on three things: The game world, the puzzle mechanic, and the story. Ideally, all three would be great, but usually one of them is weaker. So, Firewatch has an incredible game world and characters, but weak puzzles. The Witness has an incredible game world and puzzles, but no real story. Sadly, Nuts has an incredible game world, but the puzzle mechanic and plot just did not work for me. *– [Real player with 4.0 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197961152818)* ---
