Very Nice game, good ambient music, I read somewhere it reminded to Twin Peaks. Yes it has that eerieness to it.

Puzzles are good, real brain teasers. In a way its a bit like the Room, just one house and its close surroundings. But nicely layed out. And with a kind of glasses to show secrets/hints.

At some point I thought I was close to the end, but no, so that required some more thinking. I also saw already people making Walkthroughs, but for me that takes away the charm and the fun of solving it yourself. Its also got some hidden achievements, and I must admit the last one for me I wouldnt have found without some help from the community hahaha.

This puzzle game has a real feel for the nostalgic, which is something I appreciate, and its visuals provide a sense for the noir genre. I did also find it somewhat reminiscent of the Myst game series in style, especially while playing with the Point-and-Click mode (You can choose to play Free Roam or Point-and-Click, and are free to switch game modes anytime throughout the game). It is set in a different dimension, where symbols of triangles and eyes are everywhere, and color and light are essential elements to the game, all of which help to bring out a unique experience of game play. Discolored is, although a short game, also quite a challenging one (at times, frustratingly so), with a little “moon” logic thrown in.

History in Letters - The Eternal Alchemist

History in Letters - The Eternal Alchemist

So I bought this game because I had a coupon and love point and click adventure games. Even with a coupon I don’t think the price was worth it (EDIT: on sale for $10 from $15 USD). I got all the achievements (less 2) in 6 hours. Every dialogue advancement causes the character sprites to flicker. Most puzzles are skipable - which on the one had is nice so you don’t get stuck, on the other makes the game a lot shorter. The incentive to complete the puzzles is to get the achievement and your money’s worth - although most of them could be solved with random guesswork and button pushing. And others, when I eventually did figure out what you’re supposed to do, there was no context clue that I could find to hint at that solution (I’m looking at you last puzzle of the game). Without seeing the achievement title I likely would have been stuck longer.

After playing ‘History in Letters’ the team’s deep love for old school adventures becomes apparent, combined with a modern approach towards the genre with relaxing Hidden Objects pictures and knocking puzzles. It is a nice little treat if you look for a new adventure.

The story is set in Paris, following smart ass Remy on the trail of the notorious alchemist Nicolas Flamel which somewhat evoked an appetite to dig more into the topic of who Flamel really was. The lovely crafted setting is an interesting mix of fancyful set-ups, French-styled cafés, buildings and dungeons to crack your head over puzzles and solve the mystery of the inherited diary.

Gordian Rooms 1: A curious heritage

I enjoy the ‘Escape the Room’ genre because (typically) they run shorter, can be played in bursts, and involve pure puzzle solving. They are more relaxing than having a complex story to keep track of and success is rewarded. For me, a good Escape game has a variety of puzzles, different environments, and uses conceptual (rather than outright) clues which make me think. Gordian Rooms met all of my criteria and my only complaint is that it is over. I would have loved to play through a few more room before seeing the credits and hope that Crimsonite Games will consider another installment!

This is a very good “Roomlike” game. The visuals are impressive (in fact they improve substantially as the game goes on- the demo is somewhat misleading in this regard!), the premise and setting are neat, and the writing can actually be quite clever.

Overall it is more challenging than the Room series; for the most part this is a very good thing as the puzzles are clever and complex. There are some “hidden clickable thing” puzzles, possibly about 50% of the interactables in the game- while I usually find these frustrating and bordering on unfair, the ones here I mostly actually like because it is possible to reason about where objects might likely be hidden. There are, however, a few cases where I thought the game did verge on being straight-up unfair (two or three puzzles to get to the ending, another two to get 100% completion out of maybe 25 total?).

On The Earth Shift :)

On The Earth Shift :)

“On the Earth Shift :)" is a VR resource management game / romantic experience about doing your silly alien job while your silly alien fish friend watches.

Your silly alien job is, as the title would imply, taking care of the Earth! It is your job to ensure that all aspects of Earth life flourish in perfect harmony, including global temperature, the horniess of the population, and the desire to dominate / submit to one another.

However, alien management from Glorf-31 have their own ideas on how Earth should be managed, such as Snarglarff Sneet, obsessed with extracting value from Earth, Elgore Smankoff, who wishes to perform sick experiments on the planet, and Mire Oodle, who just wants a friend, along with many others. It is your job to accept or deny their requests, as the world’s fate hangs in the balance,

Riddle of the Sphinx™ The Awakening (Enhanced Edition)

Riddle of the Sphinx™ The Awakening (Enhanced Edition)

OVERALL RATING 9.5 / 10.

It took me around 20 hours to finally complete ROTS Enhanced, and I must say it was well worth the price (I’m including the DNCs I also purchased in my opinions: Night Exploration DLC and the Dead Ends/Hints DLC).

First, the DLCs I purchased:

-The Dead Ends (Hints) DLC helped a LOT along the way, when I needed it, which was once in a while. None of the “puzzles” were, to me, illogical…so with some help and nudging I was able to complete everything. There are a LOT of different areas in the game and thus a lot to cover, which the DLC does well. I also appreciated the way the Dead Ends DLC was structured: either hints OR direct solving ,depending on which area/node you were visiting during the game. Player’s choice, and the entire DLC was easily integrated into the game: right click during the game, then click on a menu icon, taking you to the menu where the Hints DLC resides, without quitting out of the game, per se.

Riddle of the Sphinx is a point and click adventure game that was released in 2000. Recently, it has been “remastered” and updated to run on the latest systems. I was very excited to hear that this game was coming to steam and even more excited to hear that the game was being updated. I remember playing this game back when it was first released and I recall loving it then. I was looking forward to reliving fond memories of an awesome game that combined two loves of mine. Puzzles and Ancient Egypt.
