XIII

XIII

★☆☆☆☆ Terrible!

Action

The 2020 remake of XIII is a cheap, lazy, broken cash-in on a once fascinating name.

It really makes me feel bad to have to say that because I had high hopes for this. But it’s true! In the same year that 2K gave us an amazing remake for the original Mafia, XIII stands in its own class of awfulness. That anyone could release a game in this state and try to charge 40 Euro for it, let alone goat people into pre-ordering it, is appalling.

At first, I thought the ‘very negative’ review status on Steam was a little overboard. I had followed the discussion boards before release and boy, some people did not like the style change. Having played this for an hour and then gone back to the original, I can say with a certainty that I should have listened to those people more. Not only have the developers ripped all of the charm from the original game, but they have also failed to replace it with anything of substantial worth. I think this is the most apparent in the half-a$$ed attempts to tie some of this remake’s style into the original’s. In the original, was frequent and eventually blended into the background. Here it’s reserved for very few things. It’s noticeable that its inclusion feels inconsistent at best.

Graphics aside, what the remake was INTENDED to be was the original game’s campaign and levels more or less faithfully recreated (with the original cel-shading replaced by more of a Fortnite-like cartoony art-style), but with new, more “modern” Call of Duty-inspired gameplay, including aim-down-sights, a limited inventory, a simplified health/armor system, and partial regenerating health. Rather similar to what happened with F.E.A.R. 2/F,E,A,R, 3, Bioshock Infinite, Aliens Colonial Marines, etc.

Evil Cult

Evil Cult

Evil Cult gives the player control over a Cult which tries to take over key figures in society to spread its influence and complete the Final Ritual, before any of the competing cults.

Generators generate resources, making them an obvious prime target for expansion, yet the easier (cheaper) to influence Adepts increase the probability of gathering Virgins, which serve as resource wildcards and are of course necessary for rituals as a sacrifice.

Sects within the cult allow for some optional micro-management. However, the player’s attention is mainly directed at the expansion on the map, resource balance, and awareness of the Investigator.

This game represents a very niche and rare computer game genre: the cult simulator. There are only two games I know of in this genre: 1. Evil Cult, and 2. Cults and Daggers, which is also available on Steam. This game has great potential, and is being improved with expansion sets. I highly recommend this game, which also has an excellent soundtrack.

Killer in the cabin

Killer in the cabin

I truly thought it would just be another deceit game, but it’s more than that! We were calling it Among Us meets Rust, and it really is. The survival mechanic of the game, and the fact that individual players can die for not resting, or being too cold, or not eating…it adds a WHOLE NEW level to the game. Not only are you trying to figure out who the killer is, you’re trying to survive the elements. We intended to just try it out for a little while and ended up playing the whole night. I am VERY impressed, and even more excited to see where the game goes from here!

Seekers

Seekers

Welcome

Seekers is a multiplayer survival horror game where any moment could be your last. You take the role of a Seeker, a unit sent in before anyone else with a focus on reconnaissance missions. An Insect-like alien species has been spotted in a smaller farmland community surrounded by dense forest and wheat fields. The local population has perished due to the infestation. While the area has been closed off from the rest of the world there are tasks that need to be completed within the boundaries to contain the spread and save lives; though many will be lost in the process.

What Can You Expect?

  • A challenge to complete your objective and return to extraction with most of your team alive

  • Realistic damage system where one bullet in you could mean death if untreated

  • Amputation that effects gameplay if you are stung by a Stalker’s stinger

  • Side effects that come from lack of medical care and pain

  • A companion app that has updated information and interacts with your character in real time.

  • Careful where you step, if you can hear them, they can hear you…

  • Your flashlight is your friend unless something else sees it.

In reality if you are badly injured you will not get the same life saving care on the field as you would at a hospital; so we have incorporated this into the game. If you are shot the time you have left to live will be short, your life may be prolonged with field treatment but you may experience pain and still die. However you will live for much longer than without treatment and can be fully healed when your team extracts.

The Seekers Companion App

is required to play the game to its fullest. The app is available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Using the app makes it quick easy to

  • See your teams objective and learn how to complete it

  • See the status of your characters health situation and where they are hurt

  • See how much ammo your character is holding and how much is in your clip

  • Make requests to amputate your fellow teammates and heal your wounds

  • View the map along with the location of your teammates and yourself

  • Manage the amount of batteries you have and their consumption

  • Use special equipment that you bring into each match

Terrordrome - Reign of the Legends

Terrordrome - Reign of the Legends

Absolute waste of money, would not recommend, I think I might’ve actually found the most bottom of the barrel game on here. I remember playing the demo version of this game way back in 2018 during their Kickstarter. The demo was slow and clunky and heavily filled with glitches, but since it was a demo I thought they might improve as development went on, it’s 2021 now and this game still doesn’t feel like it’s worth wasting $15, not even if it was on sale for $5. I mean what could you expect from a game that only has like 2 people working on it, 1 person working on the animations and the other working on the coding. Playing the game feels like if it’s devoid of any testers, I’m guessing that’s where the player comes in. You can tell this is one of the those half-baked, mobile games where they expect the player/buyer to report things wrong with their game so the devs could fix it while at the same time make vlogs and livestreams about their joke of a project. I’d recommend anything else, anything!

If you’re a fan of the first Terrordrome: Rise of the Boogeymen, and more importantly familiar with how to play the previous entry, you’ll find that it’s sequel Terrordrome: Reign of the Legends is worth your while. Even if you’re new to the series, this is a simple fighting game with a multitude of complex mechanics that are fun to explore.

As of writing this review, the is in an Early Access version, so understand that the game is incomplete. The developers, who consist of a small indie team, are actively working on the game and speak directly to their fans and community. So feedback is frequently received and considered.
