Secret World Legends

Secret World Legends

I have really enjoyed the Borderlands series and story - The characters made the difference. I wanted to try out my first MMO however I’m extremely picky about “Fantasy” - I usual don’t like it. With TSW, it takes place in the Present. It has a “grown-up” story full of characters, etc. not found in most games. Plus, this game has as much playtime as the entire Borderlands series combined.

There were some Sci Fi MMO’s I considered, but I didn’t want to level grind - TSW has linear growth and I can “spend” my Skill Points where ever to determine my Quality Level (1 - 10).

ADDENDUM: We are now approaching the 2 year anniversary of the relaunch. In this time, they have added about two hours worth of new story content. Much of the old story and PVP modes are still missing from Secret World Legends, and they are trickle releasing the holiday event content one year at a time. Anyone still questioning if this was just a cash grab?

Make no mistake about it, the real reason this game died the first time is because Funcom only expanded the game by about 25% over the course of five years. Even after that new content was added, the game really only has about a month worth of content to experience, even for a casual player. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great content… the story is fantastic, with great missions that go far beyond the menial tasks that pass for quests in most MMOs. How will the game die this time around? Read on and find out.

Beneath a Steel Sky

Beneath a Steel Sky

83 / 100

I remember all those years ago as a kid playing up to Disk #7 on my Amiga version, before hitting a dreaded bad disk preventing my savegame from loading! I could not escape Union City. Beaten.. It may have taken me the better part of two decades, but I can now finally cross it off my point-n-click bucket list. Although showing its age, with a poor UI & clunky controls, it is a great story with some quirky characters, challenging puzzles & strong ending. Most deserving of its all-time classic status. Now I feel worthy to tackle the long awaited sequel & see where Foster’s adventure takes him next.

Playing this game yet again while writing this review. I don’t know how many times I repeated this journey which was always a Groundhog Day I never regret repeating. It never got old even after a few decades. Why?: My initial love for the game started with its brilliant soundtrack and continued with how well the game made with its great gameplay mechanics (what you have to do is very clear and you don’t have to pixel hunt), puzzles (no moon logic puzzle), unique adventure (a lot of different locations, people and events to encounter), story (the game has a great sense of mystery and twist), sense of humor (it’s the reason of why I like dark humor) and goddammit Joey (you silly funny annoying lovely robot). I don’t remember if this game were the first adventure game I played (was this game or King’s Quest) but I remember clearly that this game was the reason of why I started to love adventure games (on the contrary of King’s Quest which was the reason of why I became bald when I was still a little child) and dreamed to develop my own adventure game someday. Yeah, this game means that much for me but of course words can’t fully convey what I feel for this game but still, yeah, you got the idea.

Short also Acheivements dont work and nothing unlocks when you finish Blanche.

This feels like a demo to a demo. There is only 7-10 minutes of content and far more locked options than available options. 3 of the Achievements also don’t work/can’t be attempted either. How awful.

Seekers

Seekers

Welcome

Seekers is a multiplayer survival horror game where any moment could be your last. You take the role of a Seeker, a unit sent in before anyone else with a focus on reconnaissance missions. An Insect-like alien species has been spotted in a smaller farmland community surrounded by dense forest and wheat fields. The local population has perished due to the infestation. While the area has been closed off from the rest of the world there are tasks that need to be completed within the boundaries to contain the spread and save lives; though many will be lost in the process.

What Can You Expect?

  • A challenge to complete your objective and return to extraction with most of your team alive

  • Realistic damage system where one bullet in you could mean death if untreated

  • Amputation that effects gameplay if you are stung by a Stalker’s stinger

  • Side effects that come from lack of medical care and pain

  • A companion app that has updated information and interacts with your character in real time.

  • Careful where you step, if you can hear them, they can hear you…

  • Your flashlight is your friend unless something else sees it.

In reality if you are badly injured you will not get the same life saving care on the field as you would at a hospital; so we have incorporated this into the game. If you are shot the time you have left to live will be short, your life may be prolonged with field treatment but you may experience pain and still die. However you will live for much longer than without treatment and can be fully healed when your team extracts.

The Seekers Companion App

is required to play the game to its fullest. The app is available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Using the app makes it quick easy to

  • See your teams objective and learn how to complete it

  • See the status of your characters health situation and where they are hurt

  • See how much ammo your character is holding and how much is in your clip

  • Make requests to amputate your fellow teammates and heal your wounds

  • View the map along with the location of your teammates and yourself

  • Manage the amount of batteries you have and their consumption

  • Use special equipment that you bring into each match

its ok.

I’m not saying its unplayable!

The story isn’t bad, and i did enjoy it a few times, but its mostly just walk around, press this, read that, listen to this audio. you don’t actually get to make decisions or explore properly, visually its nice, but there is so little of actual interest to look at, the house itself was disapointingly small, with only two chairs, a small table, a bed, a weird thing on a wall, and a few stone pillars. it doesn’t feel like a proper museum or historical exhibit.

I really liked this game. For me it was pretty much Job Simulator because:

  • I work in history, preservation & archives (the game even mentioned one of my old jobs, Library of Congress)

  • I’m Black

  • I live in Maryland, visited Virginia lots (obv. not now, not trying to die of modern plague)

Hence why this game was basically Job Simulator for me. From the decor to the scanner/computer set-up to the gift shop to the micro-aggressive White employees (I couldn’t help but to go, “wow, did they just pull these emails direct from the jobs I have been on?") to the douchebaggery of the estate when there are Black American patrons trying to simply trace their family trees, not write exposes, because the estate goes “Oh noes! Our reputation!” - everything is pretty dead on accurate for me. It’s also wild hearing places in Maryland & Virginia and going, “I know where that is and, wow, these documents look just like the ones I scan and transcribe daily.”

My play through of the prologue here (once it uploads) if you get stuck and need help: https://youtu.be/9GET1gsMWZ0

I had so much fun with the prologue I’m super stoked to see what comes next also the link for the transcendent edition brought up a 404 error on itch.io. Check this game out for sure also it’s very easy to get stuck on a tangent if you make a mistake figuring out part of the puzzle. I had to close and reopen the game to get back to what I needed, luckily it saves your progress. I love games that make you think outside the box and use outside resources. I had two things that might have been glitches? I rated a haiku and the task didn’t complete I got information for a evidence database but I couldn’t find the evidence database I had two messages I couldn’t find in my message log and all messages were shown as read but regardless I still made it to the end of the prologue so nbd

so.. this sucks. don’t get me wrong, i LOVE this game, i just found it yesterday and I loved it. I beat the prologue, then went and bought the transcendent version to continue the story. (weirdly enough the transcendent edition has more actual bugs and not fictional bugs than the steam version, including spelling errors, but c’est la vie)

i’ve reached the part now where i had to fill my contacts list, and figure out the passwords to unlock the cosmetics. there are 0 hints for either. for the latter, the hints that ARE given, are extremely vague and i am unable to find any references for them that correlate to the actual game, and it’s extremely frustrating. what does “dog” mean in this context? the cosmetic was related to hair so i put poodle, nope. i also put cat, thinking back to the personality test, also nope. what does QR @ 0:40s mean? and the postal code? where would i even begin to find that? i understand this game is new, so there’s not a lot of info out there, but i’m stuck. (yes, i’ve looked through the discussions and reviews here for any hints, i’ve looked at the itch.io forums for this game, i’ve looked at twitter, ive looked at youtube, i’ve looked at reddit. i’ve even looked at your patreon to see if there was anything there.) i’m unable to progress because i have no idea what to ask, what the passwords might be for the cosmetics, or how to progress the storyline.
