Bravery Network Online

Bravery Network Online

  • “Ok, I have the advantage here. My Digital Attack is strong against the fighter they have out right now…”

  • “If they notice this, they will probably tag out into their other fighter with a high Digital Defense stat, meaning I won’t do much damage and they will have the advantage again…”

  • “If I predict their switch, and switch to my other fighter in the back with the high Physical Attack stat, I’ll keep my advantage and then be able to set up the win”

If you like this sort of turn based, mind games type combat, then you’ll love Bravery Network Online (BNO) !! It has a good selection of available fighters (with more on the way) - all with their own pools of possible attacks and tricks they can use. You can build up your team of 5 fighters and fight online against other people in both casual and ranked matchmaking. There are some story and single player elements, but BNO is mostly designed around PvP and playing online - at least at this point in early access.

I wrote my first review when I only played 5.8 hours of the game, and even then, I had a blast with the game. Now, with 195 hours in and getting 3rd place in a community run tournament, and running a tournament myself, I came back to revise my review.

The gameplay is much like competitive pokemon, you and your opponent bring in a fighter, and you select a move without knowing the opponent’s selected move. However, what I find most interesting in this game is that it does not have the random effects that can happen in pokemon. Statuses are not applied by chance, a critical hit is not random, and neither are misses, which are parries in this game. However, other reviews will talk about this at length, so I’d like to focus on another side of the game.

Stormbound

I’ve just gotten into Stormbound in the past 2 months and I love this game. I’ve had a binge on CCG games for awhile and I play this one the most an consistently.

First and formost, the game is NOT PAY 2 WIN. Please view negative reviews with a grain of salt.

  • The game is about strategy but it takes awhile to learn what those strategies are, as there are 4 different archetypes of cards, and even then, there are sub-themes within each. For example, is the Winter Pact set. It typically revolves around stacking mana or freeze combos. However, you can use freeze combos just to stall enemies or to clear many enemies at once.

I wish ranked play was everybody playing same levels. I’ve noticed that when you finally get to rank 25, you’re starting to meet the whales who can’t win from other whales (aka: people with too much money (and maybe also too much time) and too little skill).

So even if you’re playing reasonably well enough, playing with level 1s and 2s against level 3s isn’t exactly on equal footing. I thought that ‘ranked matches’ in general should be about skill (in gameplay and deckbuilding), not about who’s got the most money to throw around.

I’m definitely biassed, but I’m super proud to be a part of it and this game is already incredible.

And it will be even better once we reach the finished version!

I didn’t go in expecting much but this is a real gem. Variation on 21 with special cards, play modes, timer, interactive elements. Awesome solitaire or for challenging your mates. Highly addictive.

If you love your card games or need a fun way to kill idle time (on planes, trains, in bed, etc.), check out Dead Simple 21. It’s addictive. I’m challenging anyone that walks past to have a go at beating my high score. And I learned a new card game!

Dead Simple 21 is a blackjack inspired game where you draw cards from a deck and place them into one of four columns trying to hit 21. This game is a fun casual game to play. It features a fantastic art style and theme. This was fun to play, and I recommend giving it a try.

Disclaimer: I got this game for free like the rest of you all this week. I am only writing this review because I see so many uniformed reviews. You’re welcome to dislike this game and find it boring, but leaving a negative review because it is exactly what it claims to be seems petty.

Summary:

This is a pretty close clone of the Age of Sigmar tabletop game by the same name. Tabletop combat can be clunky, time consuming, and even boring if your army has been wiped out or you’re waiting on your opponent to make a tough decision. So just like the tabletop game, this game has similar quirks.

I have mixed feelings about the current situation of the game. I am hoping that by the time this game goes past early access I will have only positive reviews!

I’ll start with the good stuff:

  1. This game is implementing the mechanics of the table top version of Underworlds - Shadespire perfectly and I have faith that the developers will do the same justice to Nightvault and Beastgrave.

  2. The game looks great for early access. the Visuals are great and the models look fantastic. I would like to see the background change from game to game and make it feel more like a changing city but it should not be a deal breaker in my opinion.

Solid9 and Fatdog thank you so much for allowing me to beta test this game. Lots of patchs and hard work went into the making of this great Indie title

Its not easy. It takes a bit of trial and error to get through each scene. Dont expect to smoke through this game!

Gameplay is turn based and lots of humor along the way as this does have a storyline as well.

I have yet to test multi player but Im looking forward to it.

A solid

! (9 he he) tactical game with a light-hearted setting, pleasant graphics and firm gameplay core.

There are plenty of ways to go through the campaign missions - the achievements are sort of a built-in challenges to find another play style or experiment with the map which is nice.

I have to try out the multiplayer but the campaign alone is decent enough for people who enjoy a turn based not overly-complicated games ;)

So far, it seems everything there works in the game. It has helped me a lot.

After nearly 60 hours, I think I’m starting to get the basics of this game. Once you understand some of the common options for building your hand in a unique way, like Tan yao, shii toitsu, when to have an open hand using Dragon or Wind tiles and when that won’t work or won’t score very high, etc., then you can make better calls about what to discard.

This game saved my life.

I am 27.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and adopted our son together. They are now both 4 years old.

When we were going through our separation, I found myself lost and miserable. I was self destructive. I got so mad one day from everything spiraling out of my control that I punched some concrete in a moment of overwhelming emotion. That caused me to break my 5th metacarpal in my right hand… my working hand… my games hand.. the hand that I held and carried my children to bed with.. The hand I desperately needed to make sure I could continue to provide.

Bestiary of Sigillum

It’s a decent game, but with two major flaws at the moment.

1. Small community. You could be waiting an opponent for 10-15 minutes to no avail.

2. “Out of sync” bug in Custom mode. I tried to play with my friend two month ago. We managed to play one game out of three without the bug. Sure, there is some fun in playing two different games at once, but only the first time.

Though I doubt that anything can be done with the first problem in the near future, I hope the developers at least fix the second one. So the thumb up is not to the game at its current state, but to the game it might become if devs at least fix Custom mode and add AI mode.

So far pretty fun! Trying to counter your apponent makes the game pretty interesting. However, when my brother and I play against eachother on seperate PCs we sometimes get this problem where we are playing different games kind of. It’s like the game is not tracking our moves and displaying them correctly on the others PC. So, I will see my borthers moves one way that is contrary to how my brother actually moved his characters. Besides that great game!

There are now 3 bocce games for VR. Bocce VR Simulator is the newest edition. While I haven’t played the others, I can recommend this one. It’s solid all around. You can play single player against AI on easy, normal, or hard difficulty or you can play local multiplayer (pass the VR headset around for 2 players).

You have full locomotion available with snap turning. The physics seemed fine to me. The throwing physics and the ball collision physics all seemed realistic. I did not experience any issues playing this game. The game ran fine on my 1060 GTX at a steady 90 frames per second. It’s running on the Unity Engine.

Auro: A Monster-Bumping Adventure

Auro: A Monster-Bumping Adventure

Update: amazingly, the game was ported to Unity five years after release and many of the issues were fixed. I still encounter the occasional bug, but I have no reservations about recommending it now.

[original review below]

One of my favorite roguelikes ever.

At first the strange mechanics of the game make you feel impotent. Why can’t I just attack monsters!? But pushing monsters into water is the name of the game here and it feels way more satisfying than simply hacking at them. Beyond that is the spell system. In each round you get 4 randomly selected spells + a slot for a one-use pickup. If you’re clever enough, you can wipe out a whole screen of monsters at once. The way your spells recharge by picking up energy from floor tiles is tactically interesting and not something I’ve seen elsewhere.

Disclaimer: I am currently a part time developer for Dinofarm games. I was lucky enough to fall madly in love with the mobile version of this game (where I player well over 1,000 runs) prior to joining the dev-team, though, and can safely say that I would enjoy this game tremendously even if I wasn’t one of the programmers behind it.

Auro is a turn-based rogue-like that introduces two key innovations to the genre. The first is its ranking system, which generates levels for the player based on their persistent skill level. It cuts down dramatically on the stress you may experience in the first few hours of most rgue-likes, and helps make sure that you always have a fighting chance and that all of your runs will be exciting and dramatic.
