Blockships

Blockships

Now this game… I’m so happy I went to EGX: just for finding out about this game. You will not find anothergame quite like this. It is so fun. The game is so well refined, being a bit fiddly to rotate blocks and remove blocks from corners of a cube structure. But this shouldn’t push your choice away from it. If you think you could enjoy it, even if the features such as online multiplayer and bots arn’t there yet, support it, buy it, try to get some friends to try it out with you.

Bottom line is you won’t regret backing this game as that £4.99 / $6.25 / €5.89 will aid these talented people form a full game of content.

Been playing Blockships for a long time, at various trade shows, and it’s just pure unadulterated fun. Everyone from young to old gets it immediately and then it’s just game after game of explosions, laughter, and victorious cheering.

It’s easy to pick up but there’s a great amount of depth and strategic awareness to the gameplay. You try to keep track of both the contents and positioning of your opponents' ship parts, the blocks scattered around the level, and the blocks you have available. Building to counter opponents on-the-fly is super unique, and the entire battlefield can change in an instant with a skillfully placed shot.

EVE: Valkyrie – Warzone

EVE: Valkyrie – Warzone

I’ve run some very realistic flight simulation games with my Rift, Thrustmaster A-10 HOTAS and Crosswind pedals and they are fun for the reality of flying, but Valkyrie is fun for the fantasy of flying.

Starting out with a Battlestar Galactica Viper style launch into battle, this game is a blast because of how the ships don’t follow realistic physics and instead allow a fast moving ship to stop on a dime and spin and turn in any direction instantly in what would be body crushing high G-force maneuvers.

Super cool game!, I love it. I’ve played Eve Valkyrie “Classic” for the last 6-7 month using PSVR and got very addicted to it, and must admit I still am. I’ve recently switched to PC and find it better for me (still play in VR). After having played the game that I love for some month, I sort of got used to the ships and maps, so when Warzone was announced, I was really looking forward to it, and have to say it has not disappointed me.

The new maps, new ships, and new progression tree, are like a breath of fresh air, and we all, new and “oldies”, have to learn how to fly the new ships and get familiar with the new maps. It’s a learning curve that takes time, but is most welcome.

Star Escape

Star Escape

Really fun, simple competitive game. I’ve played alone and with a friend and I could see this being incredibly fun with 3-4 people. It’s not easy but not unfair, you always know what you did wrong. The only complaint i would have is initially navigating the menu to start a game was a little confusing.

Updated review time!

So a shit ton changed after my review. The game is now better than ever! Now you can get hours of gameplay out of this! Its amazing!

Every update brings something new to the table, like colonies, starlink, Mars and more! The dev is always wanting to improve the game and fix bugs and thats amazing. This game does not have a lot of bugs, honestly its rare to run into one.

People usually bash Unity games because they are made by Devs who dont know what they are doing. But this is a prime example that Unity games can be amazing if they are in the right hands!

I really want to like this game, but the core loop of building the reliability up on rockets for them to still feel like a 1 in 10 chance to explode when at 99% reliability isn’t fun. I wish the game had a prototyping stage where you sink time and money to get a slow increase in reliability so that when a rocket blows up, it feels like either I’m at fault for shorting on development time or the result of various factors interacting in unforeseen ways.

Another thing that feels extremely lacking in this game is the contracts system. Right now it’s just fiddle with the slider to underbid by the lowest amount possible, which just means you have to have the screen open the entire time, waiting for the ai to make its bids. If the developer really wants to keep the slider they should implement a reputation system or something of the sort. That way at the beginning you’re being forced to bid much lower than the other established launch providers and there’s more risk in pushing a rocket out of development early. Then, as you progress along in the game, and build your reputation, you’d be able to gain contracts while bidding slightly higher than the ai due to your established name and low frequency of sudden unplanned disassembly in mid flight.

Project Genesis

Project Genesis

I first saw this game on reddit back in August of last year. Since then I have seen this game add more things and become so much greater than when I first saw it. The Dev team really listens to the community and their test-pilots, who break the game looking for bugs which I am happy to say that I am one of the chosen few.

The games that I would say this is like are Battlefront 2 the PS2 version, a little like Dreadnought for the spacebattle, and like COD for the FPS part. Even though some matches might be small that doesn’t deter the player base from playing as hard as they can. In the bigger battle, like five vs five and up to eight vs eight, it gets hard to compete against all the others as there are shooting and explosions happening all around you in space and on the capital ships.

Space battles and FPS rolled into one tight package. It’s been done before but Project Genesis gets it right. Even better, they’re constantly updating the game, adding new maps and game modes, as well as balancing weapons, ships, and avatars to ensure everything ‘feels right.’ Each update brings substantial improvements and new features.

The space combat is similar to another title called Dreadnought, but it’s turbo charged yet simplified at the same time. Even the “heavy class” ships in PG feel responsive and agile by comparison. If you can fly a ship in Dreadnought, you can fly a ship better in PG. If you pick a scout class ship, it’s everything you wanted out of a fast ship.

Starblazer

Starblazer

Alexander and Brandon were guests on The Hive VR, so our team were provided with keys to their game. However, on The Hive, we never promote anything we don’t like. I’ve played Tactera and I enjoyed that, but Starblazer has some other unique elements that I love. For one, this game has got personality. The loading menu has interactable objects, so you can get lost just picking them up, but perhaps not too long before you’re greeted by a sassy bot egging you to start the game. Once inside the training center, you can teleport around various display stations highlighting each ship for battle. It smartly displays the ships working in real-time so you’re able to gauge the timing and trajectory. The room could benefit from a few more guidelines, but I believe that’s in the works.

The gameplay is a first for VR, (I’ve played Final Assault), i prefer the graphical style/setting/80s vibe in this game. The gameplay/artstyle are the reason you won’t want to take your headset off.

From the funky soundtrack, to the Starcraft style gameplay, Starblazer is a game where your RTS skills will be tested in a new way that is only possible in VR. This game has many memorable moments for the small entry fee. For instance, small enviromental easter eggs that you can interact within your ships command center (i.e. The squid). If you have been looking for a new strategy game than this is your game. From the loading screens 80’s space vibe, Starblazer makes the RTS genre once more.

At first I wasn’t sure but once I started playing this game it was hard to put down. Definitely one to play with friends. It’s hilarious, technical, and lends itself to a lot of variety so very replayable. If you like Alien, co-op or vs fighting, and you have a good sense of humor, consider picking this game up.

Very good for an indie game. It’s simple, but really entertaining. The felling you get from going through all those track, each with unique styling and themesong - it really gives you chills :D. I hope this “arena mode” will get developed further, I also hope for new levels in the future ;).

Galcon 2: Galactic Conquest

Galcon 2: Galactic Conquest

If you are looking for an RTS immersive game that has been followed by a dedicated group of gamers through various versions (Galcon, Galcon Fusion, Galcon Labs) going back 15 years… and the current version (Galcon 2) which can be played cross-platform from android and IOS devices as well as PC… And has players on nearly every continent with servers running 24-7… and a multitude of game modes (even a legit poker mode that you can use your galcoins which you earn simply by playing), and a community that has everything (making international friends, drama, strategy discussion, etc)… and is constantly being updated (usually within the game, no new versions to download needed)… this game offers all this and more. It is highly addicting once you get sucked into it. One of the greatest features is the clan based galaxy map wars which last 12 days every 2 weeks. It really is a great, timeless, and unique game that anybody can play (noobs can play co-op mode vs bots, some who have been dedicated to just that for years, but they too contribute to clan based war efforts and love it). Be warned however… there is a lot of drama and fierce competiveness in this game, lol. You can only chat in your clan channel (if you join a clan) until you ever make your first purchase of galcoins, which is worthwhile if you let your vault bonus coins build up first. Galcoins are used to donate to clan, for betting on others who play (or yourself), in poker, or to buy slick cosmetic upgrades like planet skins and a plethora of fantastic ships (opposed to the default triangle ships). If you join a clan, during wars your clan occasionally unveils hidden prize stars and you can use special new ships for free, or buy them forever for pretty cheap. You can also earn galcoins from participating and ranking in tournaments players set up, which also is how you can win wing upgrades to your profile icon. There really is a lot to this game… and the masters in this game are essentially jedis, but everyone can be beat eventually in group based games. In any case, if you give this game a chance, you may find it will be the one game that you’ll still be playing years down the road. And did I mention… it is fun!?

DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME: Please read below to understand what less than 3 hours of gameplay might entail.

This is a fair warning for anyone looking for a relaxed and fun strategy game: DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME.

Played for a few hours. Have been harassed 5 or more times with no option to chat with players unless I pay apparently.

1 way chat is a disgusting way to allow players one way harassment with no option to defend ones self.

Furthermore, playing normally means you’re suiciding if you attempt to defend your planets, even if they attack first.
