Siege of Centauri

Siege of Centauri

Siege of Centauri is one of the best looking tower defence games available and as a tower defence aficionado, I would say it is worth playing.

Forgive the comparison, but Siege of Centauri was clearly made by and for people who are looking to scratch their Defense Grid itch. It turns out that Siege of Centauri has some fairly obvious references in it that pay homage to Defense Grid, namely the interface looks almost like it was lifted from Defense Grid and some of the music too. It also has a similar story with advisers popping up between missions to brief you on what the mysterious enemy is up to.

I don’t play many tower defense games. It’s essentially a puzzle, where you try to figure out the most efficient combinations of towers and placements to defend your base. There are features that let you see what is coming, and once you learn the units and iconography, you can definitely develop strategies and plans ahead of time. There are terrific controls for difficulty, as well as mechanics that let you customize and upgrade your available tower selection. I also see capabilities for a survival mode (defend as long as you can) and custom map development. I think there might also be an intent to support steam workshop, so that mods and custom maps can be shared.

TLDR: Tabletported quality. Perhaps take a look at Momentum instead for a better execution of the same concept.

Review: The isometric perspective does not play very well with the controls as you will plunge your ball to its death by pressing the wrong arrow very often. Otherwise the sound design is not too grating and the physics for the ball mostly makes sense. With a lot of patience or a lot of skill it is possible to enjoy this title.

A little nice and beautiful game with challenging levels

After playing sometime i think that this game it kinds of remind me of another game that i was playing and raging on it much for those who was playing older flash games it’s called Gyroball, really made me feels the childhood, anyways i unlocked the world 2, and couldn’t finish the game it was too hard for me, it’s so challenging and pretty addictive the more you play the more you will get mad and gives you more motivation to finish the hardest levels by just trying more and more, with this beautiful and calm soundtrack in it it gives me chills when i rage lol, i think that’s everything for the introduction

Island Invasion

Island Invasion

Very enjoyable Tower Defense title once you have had a couple of run throughs to confirm tower abilities and tactics.

Had initial problems placing sea blocks and taking down stealth drones (you need flak towers not missiles!), but am now looking forward to new maps and harder levels.

Requires good “combined arms” tactics and the sea blocks give rise to very interesting path options. Would not mind the option of “barrage balloons” to be able to influence air paths(even if their use is limited) as in some maps you can die fairly quickly from minimal options for air defense.

This game is highly addictive and you can find yourself playing for hours trying to beat your high score. I like the map generation feature that allows almost endless possibilities to play different maps. I would definitely recommend this game for the fact that it’s well priced, entertaining for a long time and you will find yourself constantly trying to beat your high score!

Backstory

The war has since swept through our realm, leaving battlefields glinting with the fallen armour of ten thousand vanquished heroes. Yet even as the conflict still rumbles on the horizon like a distant thunderstorm, a new terror has arisen.

Peculiar tales and strange lambent mists swirl around the twisted spires of Erator cathedral, where it is said the usurper Baron Siegwar is raising an army. For many years he was considered an eccentric, shut away in his gloomy cloistered galleries, absorbed by a mania for the mystical arts. Adventurers, charlatans and mercenaries travelled across continents to court him with arcane and esoteric wonders, and his appetite for morbid curiosities was an obsession that kept him from his stately duties.

Now, rumours have emerged that his courtiers have turned murderous, attacking the nearby villages and towns with an uncommon bloodlust. Survivors swear that these marauders possess inhuman strength, and that their eyes are empty swirling voids. Worse still, those that are struck down soon rise again to take up their swords and continue their rampage…

Once cast into a dungeon for defying orders of the King, you have found a means of escape and emerge blinking into a devastated land. Now you must take up your sword and defend the realm that made you a prisoner before all is lost.

GLADIABOTS - AI Combat Arena

GLADIABOTS - AI Combat Arena

This is a superb, unique game that deserves to be even more popular than it already is.

The concept of the game is that the player designs their own AI via customizable ‘nodes’ (colour-coded tiles that the player can arrange into a logic tree to determine their robots' behaviour) which then dictate how their team of 4-8 robots (from four different classes) perform in battle against ‘enemy’ AIs.

The logical array which the player creates (featured in several of the screenshots in the store page) can be anywhere from just a handful of tiles at first, to literally hundreds (arranged into named sub-AIs if the player wants) that function like a sort of flow diagram for each robot, governing their priorities and thus responses based on a seemingly endless combination of determining factors e.g. what friendly or enemy bots are doing at that particular moment, how far away they are, or hundreds of other parameters native to the ‘check-box’ like options that allow the player to refine what each tile actually ‘says’.

Real player with 478.5 hrs in game

In Gladiabots you programm a platoon of robots that will then compete autonomously in a game arena against other platoons. You have to plan and consider carefully when creating your robots' AIs before actually hitting the arena as you can no longer interfere once the match has started: The robots are then on their own, equipped with nothing but your programmed instructions.

There are four different bot classes resembling a rock scissors paper scheme with an added tank and several different game modes (three for online ranked matches vs humans).

The Political Machine 2020

The Political Machine 2020

I played a few rounds of this game, some multiplayer, some singleplayer. Overall, I really enjoyed this game for what it was worth. The game is charming, in a humorous way. I really enjoyed the ideology system, and how it influences and reshapes the race depending on candidates are in on the race. My friend and I made some custom candidates, did stupid matchups, and we had a lot of fun just pushing the ideologies to their limit. Some of the ideologies, like fascism or giant meteorism, just end up shooting you in the foot, and its amusing to see races devolve into stupid fights between two godawful candidates.

This game needs a LOT of work, and with it now being over six months from launch I doubt that’s happening. It seems more time and resources were put into releasing the “Founding Fathers DLC” then going back and finishing their original broken product.

Perhaps the most glaring issue is that this product seems to have been made purely off some designers intuitive bias rather than any actual polling data. Universal healthcare and universal basic income are unpopular with “independents” but “Build the Wall” is. It also lists Trump’s intelligence as “smart” while Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s intelligence as dim, despite placing second in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair while in High School, being bilingual, and graduating cum laude from Boston University with a bachelors in both international relations and economics. Meanwhile the geniuses that built the game have the same issue “farm subsidies” listed twice in the policy management tab, as well as a few spelling errors.

Wasteland Angel

Wasteland Angel

This game somehow reminds me of the mid-90s sci-fi flick Tank Girl, but maybe the similarity begins and ends with the post-apocalyptic setting, the cartoonish art style and the main characters, both girls whose favourite activity seems to be shooting mutants. You take on the role of Angel, who drives around in her car and saves the inhabitants of post-world war III settlements from mutant attacks. So much for the backstory.

Gameplay wise, Wasteland Angel is a no-nonsense top-down shooter. You’re looking at a desert landscape from an isomotric perspective, drive around with a car whilst shooting at other cars that likewise shoot at you. That’s pretty much all there is. Your main armament consists of two fixed guns, additional weapons can be aquired by driving over power-ups. Each level has three stages and, after you defeat the stages final boss in the third, a short bonus stage that leaves the top-down view and switches to a first-person perspective. The game never breaks from this pattern.

Honestly, this game is exactly what it presents itself as - a fast-paced, post-apocalyptic arcade-style game focused around vehicular combat. Within that mold, there’s some aspects I appreciate quite a lot.

  1. Civilian towns. The primary objective is not just to survive against all comers, but to protect towns full of civilians - this often, at least for me - created situations where I had no choice but to hold off on blowing up targets trying very hard to kill me in order to protect civilians. This particular feature just seems very well designed - you’ve got enough heallth to sacrifice some if you have to in order to protect civilians, the game smoothly increases complexity from one town on a flat map to multiple towns on a map covered in impassable terrain obstacles, etc. If a bunch of civies are walking back to town after the transport which took them is exploded and you or an enemy runs them over, they die, etc. It’s little things like that which make a good game a great one or a bad game okay.

Really enjoy this game with my friends! Although the rules are easy, we can always find different strategies to beat each other :) Wish there will be a map editor. Cannot wait to create some maps to share with my friends!

Good party game that is awesome if you can find someone else to play with.

Good:

  • Innovate gameplay.

  • Has AI player so you can play alone.

Bad:

  • Too many loading screens.

  • No V-sync.

  • I don’t want to get a poo when I lose a round.

  • Online match is impossible unless you can find people at right place.

Wish:

  • Level editor with Steam Workshop support.

  • Custom match but you can set multiple levels instead of just one.

DISCLAIMER: I’m meanwhile making official updates to this game, so I’m certainly biased. I wrote this review long before, however (when I didn’t even remotely expect to ever be a dev for this game), so I believe there’s nothing wrong about leaving it up.

I would not have expected Tooth and Tail to be the strategy game I wanted, but it is. Here’s why.

Most important points you might not know about, yet:

(The singleplayer campaign is cool, but I’ll mainly write about what makes multiplayer excel.)

Real player with 1383.4 hrs in game

Tooth and Tail is the game that I’ve played for long enough time. Pretty sure that the first game I pre-purchased on Steam. And it was pretty much the game that pushed me towards the purchase of the new GPU, believe it or not.

Since today’s the first day of the new year, - a Year of the Rat, no less - I decided to share my thoughts about this rodent civil war strategy game, in the form of rapid-fire review.

I haven’t touched the game for a long time, and I get it that some things have changed, so feel free to take my words with a grain of salt.
