Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition

Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition

one of the best games ever made. while other games may earn that title by being completely unique, masterfully designed, or progressive for video games as a medium, unreal tournament earns it by being a metric sh*t ton of fun. ut99 doesn’t care about perfectly fine tuning and balancing everything for competitive play, or having a complex story, or even just making sense in general. all it cares about is letting you play whatever you want and do whatever you want within the confines of the game engine.

This is my

–————- FAVORITE GAME OF ALL TIME —————–

Nothing else even comes close.

Absolutely gorgeous aesthetic, brilliant weapon design, fast-paced and satisfying action.

The BOTS in this game are GENUINELY INTELLIGENT! And you can let their difficulty AUTO-ADJUST to fit EXACTLY at your skill level! Bots should be standard in FPS imo. ESPECIALLY MULTIPLAYER! The player should NEVER be slave to what others want to play. No players, no game in multiplayer gaming. This is why I can still play Unreal Tournament when and how I want FOREVER! And I have done exactly that so far.

Palace of Cards

The different card games are very well explained. And you can play for free for a very long time. Thumbs up.

But then…

Their prices are downright ridiculous and outrageous. Just for professional players.

Quake III Arena

Quake III Arena

Fucking. Hell. Yes. The Arena is a cruel, cruel Mistress - she will build you up, only to break you, & just when you think you’re rid of her, she’ll drag you back into her clutches.

In short, for those of you who are woefully unaware, Quake 3 is hands down the pinnacle of the “Old School” ’90s FPSs designed by the original id Software team, using an entirely different Gameplay model than the Modern FPSs of CoD & BF. A more common term for it is “Twitch Gaming” due to the extreme level of reaction time required to truly match up against not only other players, but also the Bots. To quote Dark Souls - “Prepare to Die”, because you will, over, & over, & over.

River City Melee Mach!!

River City Melee Mach!!

It mostly reuses the same engine from Super Sports Challenge, but instead of several events it’s all-out fighting with a few new features. While that means it isn’t the most ambitious game on the devs’ part, it’s still more of the proven good gameplay. Lots of characters, moves, and unlockables. Each team has a different storyline, and semi-randomized opponents adds a LOT of replay value. On the downside of things, the keyboard layout shares the same flaws as Super Sports Challenge (U, J, O… and cannot be remapped) but at least the controls are responsive. Controller support also looks grim, but if you can circumvent this with JoyToKey (or something similar), this game is lots of fun!

At first I have given a negative feedback to this game considering how I loved the Kunio series soo much, because the ai in endless mod was not responding. The good news is there is a small change in that. Developers are active, and I appreciate that

Unreal Tournament 2004: Editor’s Choice Edition

Unreal Tournament 2004: Editor’s Choice Edition

I have like 3000 hours on this game.

14 years later I’m still playing it with my friends, and “online friends” from the UT community, and other people I don’t know of course.

There are still people on the servers (not as much as there was years ago of course, but still, the community is undying and newcomers are frequent).

For serious gaming I especially recommend Team Arena Master mod, or iCTF, which are the best mods according to me.

Beginners may have a bad time when joinning some servers though, many people are already experienced. But as the gameplay is very simple to understand (and at the same time incredibly rich) you can quickly become a good competitor :)

Sit down, son. You just stumbled upon the page of the best shooter ever made. Pay some respect.

Before the days of shooters that holds your hand and aim for you, that regenerate your health and show you what to do like a baby, there was this. Unreal Tournament 2004 - the most brutal, adrenalin-fueled shooter since Quake 3 Arena, a game so fast-paced its guaranteed you’ll burn your eyes from not blinking for so long. They say we only use 20% of our brains - well, if you play this game on the hardest difficulty, you’ll be using 100% i assure you. Holy hell son, this game uses so much of your brain it pretty much even cures autism. This game is filled with so much testosterone you have to shave your beard every forty minutes of gametime.

Great game. Today I have remembered what it’s like to play 16x16 and it’s really really fun. Shooting mechanics feel very smooth. Love it. I guess I understand why people still play this game.

Deathmatch Classic

Deathmatch Classic ─ a love story.

There it was. The last DMC server on earth. With last two players.

They were fighting to win. One versus one. Head to head.

They were winning their own small victories. Their score was close, they were the best.

And after playing for so long they grew attached to each other.

The player one really started to like player two, but he didn’t know how to express his feelings.

After 3 kills in the row, player one decided to write a message in chat: “Hey, you’re a really good player!”

QUAKE III: Team Arena

QUAKE III: Team Arena

Team Arena is Quake 3 Arena but with different graphics. I don’t like this version of Quake as much as I do the others. It doesn’t feel as polished as the others. The online portion is mostly just bots killing each other. The online community is hard to find. I have played this quite a bit and there is just something missing. The online play is ridged and not as smooth as I would like. The game doesn’t have a single player but it does have alot of Multiplayer maps and bots for you to kill. The sounds take away from what it should really sound like. It feels like a couple notches down from were it should be. I have enjoyed my playing of this game but not as much as previous Quake’s. I suggest to get this if you have friends to play but if your getting it thinking there are alot of people online then you are going to be disappointed.

Quake III Team Arena is a decent expansion pack for what it is but it isn’t quite as fun to go back to as say Quake III Arena

Pros the new game modes are pretty fun for the most part

Some of the new maps are pretty good

It’s pretty convienient to have prerecored voice clips to communicate with your team

The Chaingun and Nailgun are both great additions to the Quake III arsenal

The powerups like guard and scout are pretty cool

Cons

Some of these game modes just aren’t that much fun with bots

Some of the maps stink either there to crampt and I get lost or there to big and it takes an eternity to get to the other side

Rating: 10/10

This game is an absolute masterpiece, it will forever be S-Tier to me. It’s a competitive game solely based on who has better aim, cutting out the middle man like most games. Though old, the graphics and maps are very stunning and iconic. This game is not for everyone because it’s hard to master the different weapons, a lot of the players are top tier, and the game sadly isn’t very popular anymore, so consider all when buying.

Garfield Kart

Garfield Kart

“I don’t think any word can explain a man’s life,” says one of the searchers through the warehouse of treasures left behind by Jonathan Arbuckle. Then we get the famous series of shots leading to the closeup of the word “Garfield” on a kart that has been tossed into a furnace, its paint curling in the flames. We remember that this was Arbuckle’s childhood kart, taken from him as he was torn from his family and sent east to boarding school.

Garfield is the emblem of the security, hope and innocence of childhood, which a man can spend his life seeking to regain. It is the green light at the end of Gatsby’s pier; the leopard atop Kilimanjaro, seeking nobody knows what; the bone tossed into the air in “2001.” It is that yearning after transience that adults learn to suppress. “Maybe Garfield was something he couldn’t get, or something he lost,” says Lyman, the reporter assigned to the puzzle of Arbuckle’s dying word. “Anyway, it wouldn’t have explained anything.” True, it explains nothing, but it is remarkably satisfactory as a demonstration that nothing can be explained. “Garfield Kart” likes playful paradoxes like that. Its surface is as much fun as any mascot kart racer ever made. Its depths surpass understanding. I have analyzed it a frame at a time with more than 30 groups, and together we have seen, I believe, pretty much everything that is there on the screen. The more clearly I can see its physical manifestation, the more I am stirred by its mystery.

When I was 18… 18 years old, I saw for the first time in my life… I saw an image of clarity. I saw a comic strip… a three panel comic strip that, though simple as it seemed, changed me… changed my being, changed who I am… Made me who I am…

Enlightened me…

The strip, Garfield, the comic strip was new… no more than maybe a month and a half since inception, since… since coming into existence… and there it was before me in print, I saw it… a comic strip… What was it called?
