Jiangshi x Daoshi

Jiangshi x Daoshi

I absolutely love this game! It uses a refreshing mix of static avatars & backgrounds, with frequent animation and motion comic action panels reminiscent of Dead Leaves. This gives the game an extremely dynamic feel, which makes up for the lack of choices. Like many Visual Novels, heavy emphasis is on the word Novel, as such, interaction in this game is mostly limited to hunting for words that the in-game hover-dictionary may explain for you.

Jiangshi X Daoshi boasts a rich story packed with fantastic Chinese mythology/historical information, with a wholesome dynamic between the main characters.

Please be mindful that this is the censored version uploaded to steam.

I wish to bring awareness to this. Apparently this VN was banned upon submission because of certain scenes and they’ve fought tooth and nail the bring it back for us to enjoy. Bans usually mean end of the line for most games from what I have heard. I’ve went back in to check most of these scenes and they aren’t even close to becoming questionable. • weird main menu behavior

  • steam screenshots don’t work

  • inconsistent text display:

___narrative text displayed on whole screen most of the time but also on lower thirds

___main character gregor appears in lower thirds dialog box even though he has no dialogue

  • art and animation are ok during chapter 1
  • art in chapters 2 & 3 was lackluster and didn’t match the text

The story is pretty good the characters are all pretty interesting and remember able the voice acting also for this game is great. the writing also for this visual novel is pretty good there were times in this visual novel that I laughed and thought was interesting and then there were times where I was actually was interested in the fighting scenes of the visual novel and what would happen next in the scenes following up. Overall I have enjoyed playing this visual novel and getting the endings I have already gotten and I am going to continue getting all the endings that I can get for this visual novel.

I have never reviewed a game since I have my account on steam so this will be my first review but I cannot let this gem of a visual novel go unnoticed.

Its characters, its humor, its soundtrack and especially Stan, its protagonist, are so refreshing and funny that I can not find any complaints. If we talk about replayability I can’t make any criticism either, there are a lot of little things that change completely as the scenes unfold, and not to mention the various endings that there are, some will make you feel like the worst human being in history and the others as the happiest person of all.

System Under Surveillance

System Under Surveillance

PLEASE NOTE: the game is still in development.

System Under Surveillance (SUS) is an upcoming indie stealth game with adventure and puzzle elements, reminiscent of some of the classics of the 80s and 90s. The graphic style is retro with a modern twist, with gameplay taking place in an old-school isometric world, while the story unfolds as an interactive comic book with all illustrations hand-drawn in pixel art!

THE STORY SO FAR:

His only memory is being in a car chase involving his mother, after which, Adam finds himself alone in the middle of a dystopian city, not knowing how he got there. He soon discovers that a mysterious governmental organization is after him, but he has no idea why.

During his struggle to evade the murky forces hunting him down, Adam meets an eccentric cleaning robot. Despite being called TURBO, Adam’s new robot friend is clumsy and slow, albeit with a big (digital) heart. TURBO teams up with Adam in his mission to stay alive and uncover the dark truth surrounding the accident.

IT’S A COMIC BOOK, TOO!:

Get drawn into the game through its carefully illustrated pixel-art comic book. Your progress helps tell the story. Recover the missing pages to piece together the unsettling truth behind the accident and why you’re being followed wherever you go by deadly robots. And the story has only just begun.

STEALTH OR DIE:

In the world of SUS, you have no power over your enemies. You’re completely vulnerable! Without any combat capability, your only chance of surviving is through stealth.

Scan your surroundings and work out how to use them to your advantage. Make the most of each character’s unique abilities to trick your enemies, sneak past them and stay undercover.

SWITCH BETWEEN TWO UNIQUE CHARACTERS, AT ANY TIME!:

TURBO,is a rickety old cleaning robot, but it has some very handy skills! It can:

  • hover above holes to propel itself to new areas;

  • transform into a metallic ball and roll up pipes and down narrow alleys;

  • generate a powerful electric shock by spinning in place, temporarily disabling nearby electronics;

Adam, is a regular boy who is also uncommonly resourceful. He can:

  • remotely take control of enemies, open doors and disable security systems;

  • create diversions with everyday objects;

  • make use of clever gadgets to solve the puzzles in minigames;

  • and more…

NO ORDINARY HEALTH SYSTEM:

SUS replaces the old-school health bar with a threat level. It serves to immerse you even further into the story, bringing you closer to Adam, the ordinary boy whose life depends on outsmarting his enemies. Stay undetected to keep the threat level low, or get detected to make enemies follow you, only to trick them into letting you into restricted areas. The threat level goes back down when you hide. But you can’t stay hidden forever!

The Evolving World: Catalyst Wake

The Evolving World: Catalyst Wake

Only 3000 humans remain after three apocalyptic events, referred to as the “Catalysts”, severely decreased the population. Catalyst One resulted in the air being toxic to breathe, so everyone wears masks. After the collapse of the government, various organizations have formed, and fight each other for territory and resources.

Oliver Naut is a scrappy kid who has grown up alone in the Deadzones — the most toxic areas on the planet — with nothing but the robotic swords in his arms for protection. But now he’s teamed up with Namo, a skilled ex-assassin, to prevent an army of robotic soldiers from falling into the hands of the organizations, who will only use them for more violence and death. Will Oliver be able to bring humanity together to fight for peace instead?

Catalyst Wake is a linear visual novel. Instead of the typical “sprites against backgrounds” format, the dialogue is accompanied by illustrations, which gives it a cinematic quality. It’s much like a motion comic.

It’s a continuation of a series of animations and comics that were released between 2011 and 2016 that will finally conclude the story.

  • Full English voice acting

  • Over a thousand illustrations

  • Original soundtrack

  • Bios

  • Behind-the-scenes

Blake: The Visual Novel

Blake: The Visual Novel

Blake: The Visual Novel is the first VN I have played in a very long time, and I enjoyed it. To be fair it does start off pretty slow, but past the necessary introductions to everyone, and once the plot really begins, there is a lot to like!

The music is real cool and jazzy! I found myself really digging the ambient music in the ICC building! The characters are likable except for maybe Lee. Other than that the story that the game builds up in an intriguing one and the twist caught me by surprise!

I’ll be entirely honest that when I started this one I really wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy it. I am not really a huge fan of visual novels, and the game took a little while to hook me, but after getting in a little deeper, I found myself increasingly intrigued by the story. The game reminded me of games like Yesterday and The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker in terms of writing and characters. Overall I’m glad I played it, and I look forward to seeing what Ori Mees makes in the future.

The Adventures of Wolf and Hood - A Jigsaw Tale

The Adventures of Wolf and Hood - A Jigsaw Tale

Best jigsaw game I’ve ever played. So chill, so polished, tons of levels, and all the little quality-of-life features you ever could hope for, like zooming with the mouse wheel, or pieces snapping together in a satisfying way so you can move groups around, or a slider to show the finished puzzle if you want, or just the box lid off to the side, and I love having the power to only show edge+corner pieces if you like to start with the border like I always do! You never have to save, it autosaves every move, so you can drop in drop out anytime. Really satisfying and relaxing. If you love jigsaw puzzles, you will love this game.
