Space Raiders in Space
-POST EARLY-ACCESS UPDATE-
Space Raiders in Space is finally out of early access and now has a dedicated story campaign to round out its gameplay modes. It remains a squad-based wave defense game with minor base and resource management aspects in all modes, so the main question at this point is whether the nine-ish chapter story campaign lives up to the promise of the formula? I’d say yes, which is likely apparent given that I’m still recommending the game. The cutscene narration and images are comicy, but then it’s a comic-based game in the first place, and so adds to the feeling of authenticity. It would have been nice to have additional choice elements in the story or perhaps a branching narrative, but this is Nick and Loren’s first time out as such and so I’m not going hold them to a higher standard than needed. As of this writing Cyberpunk 2077 just dropped so nobody’s going to be reading this review or really playing much else for at least a week, but when everyone gets back from Night City, they might enjoy the comic action of Space Raiders in Space to help wash off all the grittiness.

Space Raiders in Space! is an endearingly witty and charming affair from the very moment the game loads. From the snarky dev logos to the campy, over the top and gritty sci fi, this game oozes with personality. It features an unusual take on the first encounter with aliens, subverting many of the standard tropes while simultaneously roping many of those same tropes back in to serve a sinister narrative that overlays a unique style of tower defense game fused with auto battler. The game loop of gather resources, construct defenses, and fight off enemies is compelling, while the comic book motif and random chatter among the survivors remains engaging throughout.

Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich
The Freedom Force games are a must play for anyone who enjoys superhero games. Gameinformer ranked Freedom Force in it’s top ten superhero games of all time. Freedom Force vs. The Third Reich builds upon the mechanics introduced in the original game, and adds a brilliant new layer to the story. Established characters are developed further than in the previous game, and the balance between old characters and new ones is kept marvelously, especially when in WWII. I have played this game since I found it years ago, so when I found it on Steam I grabbed it quickly. Although at this point I don’t have many hours logged in, I have probably invested over 100 hours into this game and have thoroughly enjoyed each play through. One of my favorite superhero games of all time, and I hope they come out with Freedom Force 3 some day!

Freedom force vs. the Third Reich is the right kind of nostalgia. The kind that isn’t a repeat of something you saw with a fresh coat of paint, but a celabration of WHY we love this thing we love. Stylistically it seems to lovingly and joyfully toss in every silver age (and lots of golden age) comic book trope and cliche both in how the characters speak and look. Expressed no more beautifully than through the amazing hero origin cut scenes between each mission. Cut scenes which I hasten to add are easily the best element for me in the entire game. From the narration, to the story itself, to the personas of each hero…the game just knows what it is and knows exactly what its calling back to.

haunTD
Overview & Key Features:
The game of haunted contraptions.
You wake up on an island as a ghost. The land is scattered with ruins from a not-so-long-ago disaster, and the fallout is creating swarms of hostile mutants. This isn’t the afterlife you had envisioned.
Explore the world, defend against a mutating enemy, and discover what brought you back here. In this tower defense game, enemies get stronger with every passing minute, gradually transforming and acquiring abilities and power. Every 3 nights, a new boss will appear. Gather resources & build a strong enough base to defeat all 12 bosses to win. haunTD was designed with new and experienced Tower Defense fans in mind. Clearing the main “levels” in a successful run takes approximately 90 minutes, but like similar games, it will take much longer – between 12-18 hours of gameplay – to fully experience the game including all unlockable towers, outfits, and story pieces. haunTD is currently single-player, but with framework and plans in place for 4-8 cooperative multiplayer in the works.
Gameplay Mechanics:
haunTD is a Tower Defense game at heart, with new mechanics that give a creative and open-ended feeling.
Uncover the story through key artifacts and locations.
Haunt anything you find to unlock new vehicle and tower parts. Defeating enemies gives you more energy & allows you to haunt more powerful tower parts and upgrade modules. Destroying the hardest enemies will give you access to the rarest tower parts.
Haunting is hard work. Start with the basics and work your way up to more powerful contraptions.
Modular tower building: Combine different turret bases, weapons, and effect canisters that you find to create powerful contraptions with unique, synergized effects. Each tower part is unique - some heal you and other towers, some attach bombs to enemies, and the list goes on. Get creative and make whatever baddie-crushing tower you want.
A ghost can go anywhere and haunt anything, after all.
Synergy: Tower parts work together, and so do towers. Build up a base strategically, upgrade, and repel hordes of mutating enemies who gain or lose abilities over time based on the defenses they encounter.
Achieve victory through supernatural tower defense tactics and a bit of luck!

The Monster Within
The Monster Within is a deckbuilding game that oozes atmosphere. The art and music are excellent and do a great job of putting you in the setting.
Admittedly, there are a lot of deckbuilders. So, what does this game bring to the deckbuilder genre other than a fantastic theme? First, the cards you can choose to buy are dictated by your health. The lower your health, the more powerful cards you can buy - but, of course, the closer you are to losing. This mechanism feels really good, especially because the rounds go a little longer than most deckbuilders. Which brings up something else different about The Monster Within - The longer rounds allow you to really build your deck around a theme and capitalize on that theme. The third thing that sets this game apart is that the developer is extremely responsive - seriously. Join the discord and have your bugs taken care of pronto.

At present i wouldn’t recommend. The progression in the game is based on doing things to unlock stuff (thankfully if you click on the locked stuff, it will tell you what you need to do to unlock it, in theory) sadly in reality, i have beaten the game with the scientist multiple times, it didn’t unlock what it’s supposed to, i beat the game on the blood 1 difficulty again multiple times , again no unlock, so i can’t unlock any more characters, cards or ailments until this is fixed.
What i have played so far has been kind of fun though, so if and or when this gets fixed chances are pretty good i would change my review to recommend.

At the time being you can only hire employees to “create comics,” just to guess what the sliders mean from reviews trying to find a sweet spot.
It works. It’s just barebones.
Edit: But lots of updates.

Old Review is down below.
Patch 1 update does fix some things, it makes the experience a little more challenging and I like that there’s some bugs that have been fixed. However, I still have gripes with the rating system, as I will get a low score and a positive comment now as compared to the old patch where it was the opposite of said issue. The main thing this game really needs is more features, you can only get so far only being able to write comics and just view how they are doing. Still, I think this patch was a step in the right direction and can only see it getting better as substandardshrimp continues developing it. I’m still going with thumbs down for right now as it is still a mostly featureless game, keep updating though! I would love to see this blossom into a wonderful game.

Freedom Force
A 2002 super hero game. It was near the time that I really hate EA for all the things they did to the game industry and decided to boycott the game and didn’t buy it.
From what I heard from other friends this is still a quite decently made game that drags long long time.
Despite the bad impression I got so many years ago I finnaly decided to give it a try since it’s a squad based RTS with all the different unit powers.
Yes.. it does drag on a long long time and I am finnaly near the end of it. The game itself was the way before all the super hero movies and strange heros that not native to DC or Marvel universe didn’t get much recognition.

Awesome. What a fun ride. This is a very entertaining game. It’s tactics on real-time with superheroes. The graphics are totally like those you can see on comics made in the ’60s and the ’70s. Pause at any time and you will get a vignette. The developers capture the spirit of those days pretty well. The voice acting is great and sounds just like the old superhero T.V. Saturday cartoons like JLA. All here is right about the concept, the story is also good. The game itself is a top-down RPG with a lot of combat, real-time strategy with pause. Plenty of heroes with different powers that are fun to use. Varied and challenging enemies.

Kwarn Armada Tactics
Kwarn Armada Tactics (aka KAT) is a unique mix of strategy and action.
KAT’s gameplay is focused on an ingenious system of units formations : each of your units has lines of action that can strengthen allied units or destroy opposing units. Place smartly your units to create powerful formations which will counter your opponent’s assaults !
Choose among 6 generals the one that will lead your troops on the battlefield. The general defines your armada’s general strategy : massive assaults or fast attacks, impenetrable defence, ruses or diversions, guerilla warfare or destabilization…Each of the 6 generals has 3 powers able to turn the battle to his advantage : powerful drones prototypes, opposing units capture, camouflage, speed or power boosts, etc.
Choose among 27 units the best combinaison according to your strategy ! Heavy units, equipped with shields, allow to crush a defence formation !
Light units are able to dodge enemy’s attacks and are perfect for harrying your opponent! Medium units are balanced and will form the core or your armada ! Transport units allow you to bring units to the heart of your opponent’s armada or to create a diversion !
Customize your units with equipment to caught your opponent by surprise and take advantage! Equipments can be installed on some of your drones and can be used at any time during the battle : the bomb transforms a unit into a suicide bomber, the teleporter transports a unit in the middle of the enemy defense, the virus sabotages the enemy defenses, the bastion turns a unit into a fortress, …
Fight your opponents in ruthless duels ! Each battlefield is full of surprises: whether it is a violent snowstorm that immobilizes your units, asteroid fields that threaten your troops, or pirates capable of capturing your units: each battle promises to be unique and surprising ! The AI of the game has been the object of a particular and constant work in order to make it redoutable : able to choose among dozens of tactics and hundreds of formations of units, the AI represents a real challenge and makes each general really different.
Finally, quick play allows you to set up an immediate battle through 14 game modes, against the AI or another player on the same device.

Monica e a Guarda dos Coelhos
I expected it to be on par with No Heroes Here but it’s not nearly as good. The biggest problem is that you can beat the levels (at least on normal) by just doing the same thing over and over. It becomes incredibly monotonous.
There are also no boss levels, which were some of the highlights of the original.
Let’s hope they eventually release a proper sequel.

Mines & Dragons
A rather simple game, Mines & Dragons premise is solid enough but not a whole lot of polish went into it. The game is based off minesweeper but their is no option to seemingly plant a marker where you think mines are and clicking on the board wasn’t all that interesting (hope to find those big open spaces with no mines around them, blanket tiles around any 1’s you see, and you’ll do quite well).
I managed to beat a run of the game in under 15 minutes and can’t really say I’m all that inclined to go into another run. The enemies that are fought might have progressively more health but they don’t really do anything interesting. Weapon selection seems to favor heavy hitting items as even though they reduce your time limit they ultimately will let you melt bosses faster.
