A Vampyre Story

A Vampyre Story

A starting note that the play time does not reflect game length or completion time as I often leave games running whilst off doing other things.

A Vampyre Story is a fun point and click game that whilst not breaking any moulds of the genre it’s characters and dialogue I thought were witty and memorable and had me laughing out loud a fair few times. It also looks good, but the animations can sometimes ‘stick’ shall we say, although this is not a big issue.

Any fans of P&C’s will not be diasapointed in what this has to offer, although not the most challenging game out there, the puzzles aren’t ludicrously obscure as they can be in some other titles and range from simple to medium difficulty.

I picked this game up when it first came out on disc and I regretted never finishing it. I was thrilled that it showed up on Steam and I’m very happy my memories of the game weren’t just nostalgia, it’s very fun and polished. The tone and puzzles are reminiscent of classic LucasArts games and the art is top notch, even by today’s cartoon game standards.

Some have not liked the voice of Mona, the main protagonist. It is high pitched and I can see how it could annoy folks but I thought it fit and didn’t mind.

Love Notes

Love Notes

Waking up in an abandoned building, you have no memory of what transpired the night before. Adding to this mystery, you find your band is in shambles as most members split or leave.

Set in the same world as Love Bites, Love Notes lets you play as Rachel or Jesse, two musicians of the band Spectral Howl.

As time passes, they’ll start to feel strange, their bodies changing into something different after their night of amnesia. Long teeth, unnatural thirst, and a sluggishness during the day. Someone did this to them. But who, and why?

Try to solve the mystery of what happened that night, and who are they changing into.

During the story, both Jesse and Rachel will be able to romance one of the following characters:

  • Tristan, who runs the bar Nightshade and almost never go out during the day

  • Valerie, Tristan’s sister and sexy bartender who isn’t afraid of anything

  • Nathan, an ex-student of medicine who can commune with the spirit world

  • Zoe, apparently a regular librarian, in reality she has lived multiple lives

  • Kasumi, a media savvy girl who can adapt to any situation

Each love interest can be equally romanced by Rachel or Jesse, but each path is unique.

You’ll also encounter again some familiar faces from Love Bites as secondary characters, with various cameos and references. But it’s not necessary to have played it: they are two separate stories set in the same world.

Trick & Treat Remake

Trick & Treat Remake

I really like the overworked sweet-spooky style. I hope there will be more Games with those characters in the future.

I played the original game in 2019, and got really excited for the remake. The art and locations have been updated, and the game looks more polished now. Needless to say, the story doesn’t change very much, apart from the bonus objectives. I bought the full bundle and had a look through the artbook, which contains a few annotations and fan art. It also comes with a bonus comic about our truly heroic main character. If you want to get into the spooky mood, this game is certainly a good choice. It’s cute and quirky and doesn’t feel frustrating (which some of these RPG Maker do). Some of the achievements seem to be quite tough to get, though. So, if you’re expecting an easy achievement hunt, I’d probably get the free version.

Dead Dust

Dead Dust

Dead Dust is one of a number of games from developer HugePixel, and the first of his offerings I have played. And hoo boy have I played it. Can’t remember what I paid for it, but I can be rest assured that getting 17 hours of gameplay is a steal.

Let me start by addressing the complaints from other reviewers:

REVIEWER COMPLAINT 1 - “It’s too hard”:

When I first started playing I agreed with this sentiment. I thought as it was a twin stick shooter, that naturally an X-Box controller would be the best option. Like another reviewer, I think I made it to the second level, MAYBE the third but after that it was game over man. The enemy difficulty sure does ramp up tenfold once they get guns, but isn’t that just how it works in real life? Massacring unarmed enemies is bad for the soul anyway.

Real player with 17.2 hrs in game

The game looks deceiving from the store page. It’s actually pretty simple - nothing in the game works. Achievements are not unlocking, the extra characters are not unlocking, every level looks and feels the same, the enemies are the same, it’s boring in general. Also just take a look at the name of the game itself, so cringy.

Dracula: Vampires vs. Zombies

Dracula: Vampires vs. Zombies

Good bow mechanics, good take on waves with addition of rescues, powerups, enemies and most importantly - just fun to play! Stay for a quick play or stay for a while, it’s all good. The pace is frantic but manageable and satisfying. I’d love more cotent but what is there has replay value. Thumbs up!

Not just another bow and arrow game! Its stupidly addictive and well made, the pace and variety is perfect. Working through the city is well worth the effort to make it to the forrest and instead of feeling like a chore like a lot of other similar games, you cant put the controllers down because you have to have one more go. The voice overs are brilliant, feels like an 80s film that can make fun of itself. Im sure there will be more levels to come, the devs seem to be pretty active and want feedback.

AKIBA’S TRIP: Undead & Undressed (REVIEW)

Minor spoilers, nothing too revealing however

After playing through all the routes and completing everything there is to the game I would say that the title ‘AKIBA’S TRIP: Undead & Undressed’ is an overall great game. As you can tell by the amount of time I’ve spent on this game, I can assure you that it’s a pleasure to be playing this game.

Real player with 3564.1 hrs in game

Only once I started playing this game did I realize that the tittle is a pun.

Akiba’s Trip Undead and Undressed is an “open world” brawler game, set in a satirical setting which features a recreation of Akihabara, pop culture references, and vampires… lots and lots of vampires for the player to strip bare.

This game’s ‘thing’ is that in order to defeat your opponents, you must destroy or remove their clothes before they strip you; you don’t just beat your enemies to death as you would in most brawler games. The player must strike the enemy’s head, body and legs for the purpose of lowering their defenses, and thus allow them to remove their hats, shirts/dress and pants/skirt. Get stripped yourself and you will die, so do your best to keep your pants on!

Covenanted

Covenanted

Covenanted is a hand-drawn rogue-like with RPG elements and an original turn-based combat system

A contract with the devil is always a bad idea [/]

The heroine of Covenanted, bound by a contract with the Devil, is on a journey through the magical world. Pursued by the Inquisition and blackmailed by the Devil, she has to balance between light and darkness in order to gain the support of powerful allies and break the endless cycle of rebirth

Combat Alchemy [/]

The journey is full of dangers! As the game progresses, the witch collects recipes for unique potions and gathers ingredients to make her magic even more powerful. Each recipe has its own unique effect

Procedural generation [/]

The global map of Covenanted is generated for each session. The variety of locations, the number of opponents and the available rewards are selected in such a way that each race is different from the previous one

Visual style [/]

We pride ourselves on the visual style of the game. All the main elements were drawn with ink on paper and digitized. The world of Covenanted is growing, our artists are working on new characters and locations

Random events and story quests [/]

We want players to feel the impact of the decisions made in story quests throughout the game. Despite one true ending, the fate of the Covenanted side heroes remains in the hands of the player

Fairy Middle Ages [/]

When creating the world, we were inspired by the worlds of the fantasy genre, world folklore, myths and legends. In Covenanted, elves and werewolves live in the same world with the characters of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales and ancient myths

The Monster Within

The Monster Within

The Monster Within is a deckbuilding game that oozes atmosphere. The art and music are excellent and do a great job of putting you in the setting.

Admittedly, there are a lot of deckbuilders. So, what does this game bring to the deckbuilder genre other than a fantastic theme? First, the cards you can choose to buy are dictated by your health. The lower your health, the more powerful cards you can buy - but, of course, the closer you are to losing. This mechanism feels really good, especially because the rounds go a little longer than most deckbuilders. Which brings up something else different about The Monster Within - The longer rounds allow you to really build your deck around a theme and capitalize on that theme. The third thing that sets this game apart is that the developer is extremely responsive - seriously. Join the discord and have your bugs taken care of pronto.

At present i wouldn’t recommend. The progression in the game is based on doing things to unlock stuff (thankfully if you click on the locked stuff, it will tell you what you need to do to unlock it, in theory) sadly in reality, i have beaten the game with the scientist multiple times, it didn’t unlock what it’s supposed to, i beat the game on the blood 1 difficulty again multiple times , again no unlock, so i can’t unlock any more characters, cards or ailments until this is fixed.

What i have played so far has been kind of fun though, so if and or when this gets fixed chances are pretty good i would change my review to recommend.

More interesting reviews on Fenol Baron Approves Curator Page

Nice little puzzle game that combines tower defense gameplay, Tim Burton’s humorous grotesque style and easy-to-use game mechanics. With the help of his insects and animals, the boy Victor will have to uncover the secrets of the dark nooks and crannies of his house, entering into a confrontation with annoying pests. You can use from 1 to 3 types of units, depending on the type of mission to be completed and the conditions for its implementation. Each species has its own peculiarity, there are powerful punching bumblebees, and small mosquitoes, prickly hedgehogs to protect confined spaces and other specimens. The set of tactics, albeit not huge, is quite sufficient for a fun game, and various types of equipment allow you to create interesting options for defense and attack. I did not like the fact that some missions had to be completed exclusively in the way the developers intended (most often this concerned missions with one single ward). And the most unpleasant thing was the moment when a prerequisite for starting a mission was the presence in my squad of a certain unit, which can only be bought in a junk shop. It is very expensive and if there is no money for it (and I did not have it), then the only option was to start a boring grind of currency in previous missions, and in the local endless mode. This is a strange idea, to be honest. In all other respects, this is such a solid good puzzle, which is very pleasant to play in the evening, quite sincere and dynamic.
