West of Loathing

West of Loathing

This game is delightful. In terms of basic structure it’s similar to most RPGs where you have a main quest and sidequests that you’re going on and along the way you’re collecting stats, new equiptment, meeting NPCs, visiting towns, etc.

First the Pros

The best part of the game is definitely the creativity, humor and sense of discovery – because of the simplicity of the graphics and just the style of the game, it allows for a lot more varied combinations of stuff and situations. Unlike most RPGs, it doesn’t really have a part where you’re just grinding away mindlessly; the story’s constantly moving forward and there’s constantly new locations to be discovered (that’s the beauty of simple graphics!).

Hey. Yeah, I KoL’d for a long time. Like, a really long time. But if you’re here reading reviews then you don’t give a tinker’s damn about that, now, do you!?

First thing to look at here is, lemme tell you what kind of people are gonna enjoy this game. Just do some mental tick-marks in your head, then you can make the call for yourself. That’s why you read reviews, right? This is what you want, right? I’m not like, going insane and getting high off the smell of my own farts when I say this? ‘Cause the whole point is, you don’t care if I like the game. You care if you can like it.

I’m going down to South Park

Gonna have myself a time

Friendly faces everywhere

Humble folks without temptation

I’m going down to South Park

Gonna leave my woes behind

Ample parking day or night

People spouting “Howdy neighbor!”

Heading on up to South Park

Gonna see if I can’t unwind

I love girls with big fat titties

I love girls with deep vaginas

So come on down to South Park

And meet some friends of mine

Direct sequel to the first game (Literally the next day in game) going from Skyrim/Fantasy to Superheroes!

The fighting in Stick of Truth was cool but lightweight.

Now it’s deeper, richer, and more strategic, with some brilliantly designed battles that require genuine tactical thinking.

With loads of customization’s and improvements

There are buffs, debuffs, elemental magic, and summons, as well as dramatic, superbly animated ultimate attacks.

And a new grid system adds extra complexity, with chain attacks, knockbacks, and powers that force you to think about where characters are positioned on the battlefield.

Citizens of Earth

Citizens of Earth

Rarely have I ever been graced with a Game I would consider Perfect.

With the recent failures and patches of games, its outstanding to see a game as amazingly perfect as Citizens of Earth.

But like many things my opinion can be taken worth a grain of salt, what matters to you is how much that salt is worth to you?

So if you enjoy RPG’s like Earthbound and Chrono Trigger, and games inspired by Pokémon, this game is a must have and a contender for Game of the Year of 2015.

If you didn’t know, Nintendo doesn’t show much love to the Mother and Earthbound series, only porting Earthbound to the Wii u due to the demands of fans.

Do you love Earthbound? Well, let me tell you in advance: Citizens of Earth isn’t Earthbound, even though it tries to be.

Despite that, I had a ton of fun and still think it’s worth playing, though there are some design flaws that weigh its positives down. The game has some really great graphics, enjoyable music and dialog, and lots of fun in style. I will run through a quick overview and then into some negatives of the game.

The game is an old-fashioned 2D RPG where you play as the Vice President of the whole world. He was just recently put into office with the main President, but then some absurd events begin happening very quickly. The story unveils itself slowly, in a haphazard manner, but you eventually learn just about everything that has happened, and it is funny along the way.

Heroes Must Die

Heroes Must Die

7.5/10

This game is very hit or miss. The ideas are geat and unique but the excecution is passable at best and uninteresting at worst. The combat is very engaging and unique but it get’s reppetitive and easy quickly. The writing is great and never slows down with it’s wit and charm but the story is short, predictable and boring. The bosses are interesting and provide a slight change in combat but they aren’t distingushable from each other most of the time due to most of them having the same attacks and they aren’t very difficult. The characters are fun and have interesting designs but they are undeveloped and most don’t get enough screen time. I appreciate the game’s attempt to remedy the difficulty by introducing new enemis with different attack patterns later on but those get predictable as well and the last enemies you fight have the same patterns as the first ones. The game has more good points than bad and I do recomend it but understand that it’s not as good as the developers say it is. The worst thing I can say about this game is that I would never pay money for it.

+Free

+Decently funny story

+Original combat system

-Easy, with no difficulty settings. Most attack patterns are really easy to remember, and so even if you suck at landing comboes, there’s never any urgency if you can just dodge all the attacks round after round

-No option to pause in battle

-No option to make faster the fighting animations you’ve seen a bajillion times

-Choices don’t matter at all

  • The art is OK.

  • Duration is about ~4,5 hours.

7.5/10 overall.

The Throne of Bernicia

The Throne of Bernicia

This was a wonderful game (and it was totally free). The characters changed expressions that coincided with the dialogue (like smiles, closed eyes, wide-eyed looks) and you could see them immediately, just like they were real people. It had a good amount of side quests. You had choices on what your responses could be and most of the time your responses would result in different outcomes. The story was well written and the dungeons were not all the same. It was not predictable so several times I was surprised with what happened. The battles had different backgrounds. There was comedy as well as drama.

I was looking for a random Indie JRPG to play, and happened to find this one yesterday. It’s absolutely free, without ads or in game purchases!

I’ve already beaten this game. While I wish a screen with controls would have been useful, it wasn’t too difficult to figure out. Use Z to select, X for back (or menu), arrow keys to move. There are some other buttons, that are repetitive to these, but this felt the most natural. It has some typo errors, but nothing over the top. The biggest bug I encountered is that Ghosts do not give experience or gold. There is end game gold exploit, but honestly at that point it didn’t matter for me. There are also 2-4 chat screens with an error for the speaker portrait and naming.

The Tower of Wowers

The Tower of Wowers

Oh boy where do I start? Yes, there is plenty of crude humor to laugh at all throughout the tower. But that says nothing about the actual gameplay. And it plays like proper good RPG. There’s secrets hidden in not-so-obvious places and those are always a treat to come across. If you want gear, you’re going to have to fight for it. There are loot chests, but don’t expect to find weapons in them. Admittedly, I am not the best person to ask about turn-based games in general, but in the words of Todd Howard, “It just works.” Other than the odd bug I came across, which is fixed, the fights are balanced and the controls are easy. And if you like the feel of a buttons and joysticks, controllers should work just fine. I would say the soundtrack is a major selling point (The desert type theme is my favorite, funny how it is in many games), it’s just the whole thing is awesome. The enemies are the most creative and diverse selection I’ve ever seen, probably because they have little to do with each other. And that also brings up a point, there isn’t a huge amount of lore and storytelling. That’s not a bad thing, just something you should know. So, I definitely would recommend this game.

I fully expected to go into this game and rip it to shreds, but its such a shitpost meme game that it quickly grabbed my heart. The crayon drawn enemies are amazing, several variants are around with more xp and currency, and its extremely well done. For the companies first game, the price tag is perfect and it fully deserves to be played by as many as possible. I interviewed Barry during my gameplay review and play through on my twitch channel, and the game is just a work of love for the absurd. 10/10 Buy it and have a great time for a stupid low price!

Citizens of Space

Citizens of Space

First of all, erase the concepts that this is in fact a direct sequel to Citizens of Earth. In many ways, it continues along the story; but the systems to play this game are vastly different. They have evolved from their Earthbound-based battle system into something from say Super Mario RPG from the SNES era or Paper Mario from the N64. It is a bunch of minigames for abilities that is mixed with timed QTE events for reducing damage. In that aspect, this game shines and at the same time can be it’s downside as some of the minigames are quite tedious. You will find yourself not as much button mashing but wishing your timing was a bit better on some of the heavier costing abilities which consume energy, health, and other various things.

Real player with 57.6 hrs in game

First of all, don’t mind the hours. There’s a late game citizen that gives you perks for idling the game as you AFK, the actual gameplay is.. I’d think closer to 20-25 hours.

If you’re looking for a grand story, you won’t find that here. That said, I do think the game is very much worth the money, esp if you find it on sale.

there’s a lot of charm and love put into this game, and it is a definite improvement on the previous entry, at least as far as memory serves (and you’ll have to forgive me, it’s been a while since I played CoE)

Costume Quest

Costume Quest

A great game in all aspects. It is a relaxing change of pace in the gaming world littered with FPS’s. Don’t let that fool you though ! This is a game which will involve you for the short 6-7 hours it lasts and the boss battles though easier than average will require rudimentary strategy. In all an enjoyable game with leaves you smiling ! I mean, with Glowing Unicorns, Ghost Pirates and even Ninjithsu Scarecrows, there is little chance of going wrong :)

What’s to Like ?

1. Good story, involving for both young and old.

Costume Quest is a short but extremely cute turn based RPG, You are a kid at halloween, Candy is the currency and costumes give you abilities. It really brings you into the mind of a 6 year old.

The Story is about little kids on Halloween, You are twins and you can pick if you want to play the brother or the sister, You need to collect candy in your robot costume while your sibling tags along in a candy costume, this soon turns into a Search and rescue mission when a candy stealing monster thinks your sibling is a real piece of candy.
