Spy Fox in “Dry Cereal”

Spy Fox in “Dry Cereal”

SpyFox is bit of a cult classic to those that played H.E. games as a child back in the mid-late 90’s to early 2000’s for Wins 95, 98, and X (Vista and later requires a Emulator, which the steam releases provides).

Able to play this again was a huge nostalgia trip for me, and discovered a few gags I never saw before, somehow, or references I didn’t understand as a child. It has aged well, and is great for kids or anyone new to adventure games.

In this game, SpyFox has to stop a goat named William the Kid from ruining the dairy market by replacing cow milk with goat milk. You’re sent to a fictional greek island to met the rest of your team: Monkey Penny, Prof. Quack, and maybe a bug named Walter Wireless.

It’s hard to believe that this game is over twenty years old now. I played the demo of this game way back in the dayon one of the HE games we had, well that my little sister got for one Christmas. The demo introduced me to the world of Spy Fox and how to amke a good game for children, that isn’t cheesy and childish. I mostly grew up on the third game in the series, where that game had the demo of the second game included. Way back in 2009 several years after not having played the games because I was no longer a kid, I had a nasty cold, and for some reason thought of the Spy Fox games again, and looked up some Let’s Plays of the games on YouTube, and fell in love again. I managed to pick up the 2007 version of Dry Cereal from EB Games a couple of years ago. So for now I’ll just talk about the first game in the series; Spy Fox In Dry Cereal.

So we’re up to the second game in the Spy Fox series of point and click games. I played the demo of this game on our copy of Spy Fox Operation Ozone, but I never actually got to play the full game then. Don’t know why I never bothered to buy it back when I was a kid. I guess I was too busy spending money on Bionicles. Anyways, let’s talk about Spy Fox 2 Some Assembly Required.

So this time you’re sent to the World’s Fair, to stop Napoleon Le Roach from unleashing a giant robot dog out onto the city. Depending on two different pathways, you’ll use different spy gadgets and a whole lot of suave. You’ll also interact with many characters as you find items to deactivate the robot dog. And like the previous game, the game play will change. However, sadly, there’s only two different pathways. One with a venus flytrap, and one with a sort of futuristic vacuum device. You’ll still however get to experience a bonus ending, that I forgot to mention in my previous review.

Saturday Morning RPG

Saturday Morning RPG

I love Saturday Morning RPG. It’s so bad.

Remember the eighties?

Remember sitting in front of your TV on Saturday morning, soaking up the cartoon goodness?

How it was all ridiculously over-the-top and crazy, but somehow, at the end of every half an hour episode, everything worked out?

Well, if you remember those days fondly, you’ll find a lot to love in Saturday Morning RPG.

The trouble is, you’ll also find less fun things there, too.

Memory can be a fickle thing.

So, What Is Saturday Morning RPG?

I find it a shame and astonishing that a game as good as Saturday Morning RPG has not done better commercially. The game has some crazy achievements, such as fighitng 1,000 and even up to 5,000 battles, based on an initial idea of 20 episodes. Since it didn’t do well, they had to limit their ambitions to six episodes, hopefully with a fine tuning of the achievements in the future.

But why is all this necessary? The game has everyone a gamer would be looking for. A series of episodes with a simple story, with tons of nostalgic references for one thing. I mean the main character is a guy named Marty, who rides a hoverboard, and gets his powers from a mysterious man known as The Wizard. The retro graphics are a joy to behold, the music is killer, and the gameplay is a very solid Paper Mario/Super Mario RPG type of thing, with button presses for better defense and better attacks.

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition

The classic of all classics.

It’s hard to imagine anyone who hasn’t played The Secret of Monkey Island or heard a name Guybrush Threepwood in adventure gaming. Following pirate wannabe on his quest to rescue governor Elaine Marley from the clutches of evil G.P. Le Chuck doesn’t get old even on the umpteenth re-play. Rediscovering old favorites became even easier with an ability to seamlessly switch from 1990s version to a remastered one in-game, at any moment it pleases you. Whether you prefer to look at updated visuals or nostalgically go through the original – you’re guaranteed hours of swashbuckling fun.

The Secret of Monkey Island is one of the finest games ever created. Impeccably designed, incredibly funny, wonderfully charming. While some areas have aged better than others, I still firmly believe that Ron Gilbert understood the adventure game genre better than anyone else.

I do have a few reservations about this Special Edition however - while I admire the effort put in to update all the art assets, the new style leaves a lot to be desired. It’s reminiscient of the art direction from the Curse of Monkey Island onwards, which wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing, but I don’t think it works as well for this game. After Ron Gilbert ceased to be the lead on the series, it took a slightly different approach, which warranted a cartoony style.

The game isn’t particularly “good”, but you can beat it in 6 minutes while laughing about it in Discord & it’s free so play it anyways.

Do you enjoy

Guns?

Explosions?

Action?

A soundtrack that almost never suits the atmosphere?

Hand to hand combat?

A thrilling story?

Violence?

Highly inaccurate hitboxes?

Gore?

BIOMONSTERS!?

Saving California?

Life or death decisions?

If you answered yes (and even no) to any of these questions, then this game is for you!

On a completely real note, I streamed this game from start to finish and had a blast almost the entire time. Is it a triple A title? Absolutely not. Is it a humorously entertaining hour or so? Absolutely.

Mussoumano: Ataque dos Haters

Very good, but why don’t you have Chinese? As the largest market in the world, if there is Chinese, more people will play it.

There are some difficulties in the game. If it can be saved, it will be better if it can be revived from the place of death rather than from the beginning

ToeJam and Earl: Back In The Groove is a wonderful and super fun game and amazing for multiplayer co-op. This is a remake of the original in terms of gameplay but with extra content and a new story, new characters and new presents. There are lots of new earthlings as well and some new world types (biomes?).

This game is as close to being as good as the original as you can get while coming up just shy of it. I think the thing I found that I liked the least were the new sound effects. It took a while to figure it out but I think if I was able to use the original sound effects in the new game I would enjoy the experience more. The sound effects from new content however are no issue, but all the new versions of the old sound effects are not as good.
