Crush Your Enemies

I love this game. I don’t really understand the poor sales and mediocre metacritic score. I think this is awesome.

The intangible

~ The interactions between units and the decisions you make are genuinely fun

~ The game feels to be made with love and care

~ Learning mechanics and exploring feels great

Good

  • The game feels polished. Menus work fast, clicking on stuff feels good, units battling each other looks fun, etc.

  • The story has charm and you can skip it if you aren’t interested

  • The level design is mostly really good, mostly

This is a simplified version of the full GameCynic review

The TL;DR version:

A fun RTS that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Punishing campaign difficulty and online multiplayer modes help build a long lifespan for our barbarian friends. While it won’t replace your Starcraft or Total War, it’ll complement them nicely when you want a more lighthearted change of pace.

Full review:

Take an old school real-time strategy game, replace the units with angry Scottish barbarians who like to drink, swear and fight, and add a hearty supply of good beer. Welcome to Crush Your Enemies.

Half Minute Hero: Super Mega Neo Climax Ultimate Boy

Half Minute Hero: Super Mega Neo Climax Ultimate Boy

This is no doubt one of my favorite games in the library, and I highly, HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who likes Action games or Old School RPG satire. The game is about a boy who sets out to save a kingdom and, through a twist of fate, ends up making a pact with the Time Goddess to save the world…which only has 30 seconds until it explodes!

The game mostly parodies people, gaming, and most of all, the classic RPG, and it does it well. The game as a whole is really a parody, making it a point to “Grind, Grind, Grind!” when really getting to high levels only takes a few minutes. While the player only has thirty seconds to save the world, they can pray to the Time Goddess and, with an added fee, can turn back the clock. The story is expansive, and there are multiple paths and multiple endings, as well as multiple ways to go about each level (some story arcs even being surprisingly serious and tense).

Truthfully, going into this game, I didn’t know what to expect. With the name telling me I have 30 seconds to complete a mission, I thought it was going to be very easy. This is far from the case. As others have mentioned, this game makes you think strategically about when to grind, when to spend your money, how to spend said money, when the best time to fight the boss would be, etc. It’s this balance while forcing you to think on your feet that makes it so interesting. Some missions you may beat the first time, others, especially the bonus missions, may take you two, or three, or even more attempts at them, but you will most likely end up loving it every time and, at least in my experience, rarely, if ever, ever give up in anger because it’s that fun and addicting.

Half Minute Hero: The Second Coming

Half Minute Hero: The Second Coming

“Half Minute Hero: The Second Coming” is the sequel to Marvelous’s Half Minute Hero, which I strongly suggest playing first. The first game is shorter, lighter, and a good indicator of how you’ll feel about the sequel. If you liked the first game, you’ll also like the sequel. If you didn’t like the first one because it didn’t feel enough like a JRPG, you should try this one. If you simply didn’t like the first game, you won’t like this one either.

I’m going to write this review as though you’re familiar with the first game.

This is a game series about saving the world in 30 seconds… sort of. Actually anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes in practice but it still has the “Wario Ware roleplaying game” feel about it.

What’s kind of interesting and ambitious is that the nature of the parody is naturally running a little dry, so the game doesn’t sell itself strictly on its core gimmick anymore. That was a very smart move on the developer’s part, in my opinion. It doesn’t strictly feel like a series of action levels emulating an RPG this time around. This game is actually a true RPG as well. You explore, grind on enemies, search for collectables, all that good stuff. Just that the original game’s arcadey gameplay is the meat of the story segments and are replayable in much the same way (with the ability to turn off the advantage the RPG-side of the game offers). The story is a bit more substantial and the characters have a more coherent and central role, with the ability to set your own party and no restrictions on equipment. It’s not quite as overtly silly as the original game, it takes itself a bit more seriously – but not by a whole lot. A defining silly moment for me is when one of the protagonists goes inside a virtual boy game and inside the game you have to use a controller to clear a path. Trippy.

Overall rating is 6/10.

This is a somewhat fun, addictive and non-traditional soccer (or football, if you will) game. Instead of controlling any of the characters themselves, you instead get access to a wide range of powerups that you can use to influence the outcome of the game. Initially, you begin with just mines that you can place to blow up the enemy players (or even your own, if you’re so inclined) but as you progress in the game, you get access to other powerups (some of which include cows that run people over, rockets, UFOs that pick players up, rabid fans that help your team kick the ball, etc).

Primal Pursuit

Primal Pursuit

Primal Pursuit is an indie animal racer that supports up to 12 players and is a heap of fun with friends or in one of its offline modes such as the single player tournaments (against bots) or time trials (competing for leaderboard positions). It has an impressive art style with a nice selection of maps and unique animal’s to choose from. Each racer has their own set of abilities and playstyle, not to mention that the roster itself is made up of a pretty interesting, non-generic selection of species.

Followed Primal Pursuit through early development and managed to snag a tester key! (Have now Purchased)

I Played this game with my Niece and Nephew, both them and myself had an absolute blast playing this game!

The animal racing style and themes are an awesome spin on the the classic arcade racer, with each animal (A total of 8) having a set of 3 unique and interesting abilities of their own. These abilities each of the animals possess, alongside the diverse range of maps that contain tricky obstacles such as the big boulders thrown from giants and hefty spike traps, really helped make our races more interesting and broke that monotony you’d have in most other games in this genre. My niece was smitten with the ‘chubby walrus,’ and wouldn’t change from him all afternoon.

Absolutely adored this game.

There were a few minigames that I either had difficultly figuring out what I was doing wrong (and still to some degree don’t know what I was doing incorrectly) or the controls right when you start a new one. They aren’t always clear cut, at least to me, on what you were supposed to do. However, that’s something that’s easy to overlook as you can retry them over and over; through that point in the story by restarting that minigame marathon or talking to the person again and given another chance.

Gachi Heroes

This game is absolutely astounding. The game’s graphics are absolutely next gen, this game will have troubles running on your puny xbox 15 and playstation 24. Although it’s just a clicker game, the lore of this masterpiece is absolutely massive which makes this game even more enjoyable. rest in piece Billy. I would’ve honestly given this game a fat, sticky load of orgasming gay men 8 out of fucking 10, IF NOT. FOR. THE. O R G A S M INDUCING OST.

I cannot describe how much more enjoyable it is to slap Hitler with my diamond pickaxe while listening to a popular song remixed with Billy performing his best homosexual pleasure sounds. This game blew my mind. I cannot describe fully how good it is. God bless Steam and the Dev.

My fellow brothers, I, RestlessRon, stand here today, humbled by the task before us, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our Gachi ancestors.

We are in the midst of a crisis. Gachi Heroes is at war against a far-reaching storm of disturbance and deletion. The Gachi economy is badly weakened: a consequence of carelessness and irresponsibility on the part of acknowledgement, but also on the collective failure to make hard choices and to prepare for a new, MAD age.

Today, I say to you, that the challenges are real, and they are many. They will not be easily met, or in a short span of time, but know this, Gachi Heroes: they will be met. In reaffirming the greatness of this game, we understand that greatness is never given, our journey has never been one of shortcuts. It has not been for the faint-hearted, or who seek the fleshly pleasures. Rather, it has been the risk-takers, the wasted genii, the creators of MAD things. For us, they toiled in sweatshops, endured the lash of the spanking. Time and again, these men struggled, and sacrificed, so that we might … LIVE BETTER.
