Oneiros

Oneiros

Oneiros is an absolutely fantastic experience that falls on blind eyes: It’s realistic yet mysterious approach to world building, the bright color palette, ways in which the story progresses, transitions through-out the journey, comedic moments, strategic methods regarding puzzles, and enjoyability from beginning to end. All of it together paints a journey…of a man, created by Coal Valley Games.

This new endeavor for the creator’s developmental journey, was a way for the developer to branch out. After years of experience as a game developer, he always felt the need to make a story-driven game, so in 2018, he started production. After two years of hard work, on March 27th, 2020, Oneiros was public for the world to see…or…not…see…

First Impressions🤔

After completing the game I am glad I stuck with it, and enjoyed most of my time playing Oneiros.

My mind changed from positive to negative a few times mainly due to an infuriating psychedelic maze and an awkward platform level. They were almost enough for me to quit the game completely.

Whimsical and humorous. A well-made puzzle game, in the style of old point and click adventure games. It takes placesentirely on an elevator and doesn’t particularly use room-scale/VR features, but it’s still fun seeing it in front of you. Like most games of this type, it’s short and there’s no replay value, but for a few bucks I can’t complain. My girlfriend and I both enjoyed playing through it. The availability of hints is also great, as the couple we saw don’t give too much away. Overall I’d recommend it, and if on sale, it’s a no brainer for a fun and different experience.

This is another excellent three-degree-of-freedom (3dof) sitting puzzle game. It’s essentially the third least good of a set consisting of this game (Floor Plan), Elevator to the Moon, and I Expect You to Die. The second in that list is my favorite. Floor Plan is just as good really, it’s just more formalized with the (simpler) elevator mechanic, and the graphics are more pedestrian. Other than that it’s great, and you’ll like it, and if you do like it, know this: these are games meant to played on sitting cellphone VR systems like the Oculus GO. This shows just how untapped the potential of these lower end systems are. Fancy technology helps make VR magic, but it’s really all about actually crafting a good experience. It sucks that 3dof cell phone VR is no longer a thing, and a large part of that is because of the Quest 2, but I like the Quest 2!.

! And, apparently, after all these years, the way to get VR snobs to accept 3dof swivel chair game play was to attach stupid Cyber Shoes to their smelly feet. Burn! https://youtu.be/O_Ii83V-oOk

Orbis Fugae

Orbis Fugae

Anya’s Story: Follow self-crowned Pirate Queen Anya Ophelia Morgan on a world-spanning quest to uncover the truth about her father, a secret treasure, an unknown cult and – most of all – herself. Her Adventure might lead her to places she didn’t expect.

Past meets present: Orbis Fugae combines traditional Point&Click Gameplay with puzzle design straight out of popular Escape Room mechanics and ideas. Many puzzles require the player to investigate the environment and documents, check rooms and scenes for irregularities, clues or hints, and think outside the box.

Solutions might not be clear, but hidden within another puzzle.

Escape! Escaping puzzle rooms is a big part of Orbis Fugae: In many cases, Anya will find herself in a locked room environment and will have to discover a way to escape. The correct way out might not always be clear - so be sure to check everything at your disposal.

Meet interesting people, find exciting treasures and learn to escape any trap you might encounter.

Orbis Fugae is a story-driven Point&Click Escape Adventure featuring hand-drawn art and animation, and an atmospheric soundtrack.

Everything in your environment may be part of a puzzle - so keep your eyes open and your brain running!

Kitty wants pizza is a one-person indie project by Timo from Germany. This is a project I’m trying to do all by myself, without prior programming knowledge. All graphics and animations are hand-drawn, all music composed from scratch.

And most of all, I hope you’re looking forward to the game. I know I do!

AI: The Somnium Files

AI: The Somnium Files

What makes a game good? Is it the story? The characters? Or perhaps, the graphics?

You see, to me, it’s the combination of the writing, the characters, the soundtracks, and a strong voice acting performance. AI: The Somnium Files fills all the criteria, hence, making this a good game. Actually? Scratch that, it’s better than “good”, it’s a wonderful game and i don’t have to be a detective like, say, the protagonist of AI, Kaname Date to figure that much. But you might wonder, what is AI: The Somnium Files?

An AI for an Eye

It’s been a while since I was this hooked on a game and this one hooked me right from the start and didn’t let go. I was supposed to just test it to see if it works on my potato laptop, but I couldn’t put it down. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me experience a whiplash of emotions.

AI: The Somnium Files is a game by Uchikoshi Kotaro, the creator of the famous Zero Escape trilogy, and developed by Spike Chunsoft so you should expect high production values. It’s an adventure/visual novel hybrid similar to Zero Escape, but this time the two segments are completely intertwined every step of the way. It gave me that same feeling of a larger looming mystery you gradually reveal in a non-linear way the previous trilogy had. It’s also quite different at the same time.
