Agent Intercept

Agent Intercept

For being an expanded port of “just” a mobile game, this one’s great.

My only two complaints are irregular, but severe crashes and the fact that the campaign is rather short.

Though, regarding the latter, Score-Hunters will still have plenty of fun with the arcade mode.

This is a really fun game. It has striking character design, engaging gameplay, and a funky soundtrack. The story and dialogue can be goofy but that’s not a bug, it’s a feature.

Incidentally, I have not encountered any bugs.

Spirit of Glace

Spirit of Glace

Spirit of Glace is a story-rich, open world adventure platformer that tells the unforgettable tale of Glace, a small creature who suddenly appears out of nowhere during a strange experiment. Deemed an unwanted byproduct, Glace is cast away to a dying world where the inhabitants beg for help against a mysterious force.

In Spirit of Glace, players guide the little purple blob as he explores an unknown world rendered in gorgeous pixel art. Help Glace discover true purpose by finding his family and guarding their world against a coming withering darkness. Players will find a fresh platforming adventure as they run, jump, fight and ricochet through the environment.

Spirit of Glace is based on the original title, “Glace”, from 2004 and is a complete reboot/reimagination brought to you by the original developer.

Features:

  • An open world to explore at your own pace. Discover landmarks and revisit locations by roaming about on an overworld map (similar to Zelda 2). You’ll navigate grassy meadows, murky swamps, snowy mountains, moonscapes and much more.

  • A strong emphasis on story, quality lore, and attention to detail. Discover a world full of life, legend, and history.

  • Some fresh purple platforming action. Glace might be shy but he’s got moves. Falling off a ledge is just an opportunity to bounce off the floor and rocket back up with finesse. Dash mid-air, fling from ledges, ricochet off walls, and reach pretty much any place you can see (or not see).

  • Attack your foes with weapons that are just plain fun to use, like talking magical beads that shoot out, bounce around, and zip back to you.

  • Rebuild the world and unlock powers by doing so. Tend to a secret garden, help rebuild a village in the swamp, organize a penguin rebellion against the foe.

  • Experience an enchanting soundtrack carefully crafted by the composer of the original 2004 game.

  • Dozens of passive ability-enhancing relics to collect and upgrade.

  • Built for replaying. A rewind mechanic encourages you to take earned powers and game state to the next playthrough where you’ll experience new story elements and higher levels of challenge. Keep your relics, abilities, improved locations, etc.

  • Dynamic encounters within stages and dungeons that reorganize themselves after every playthrough.

Karateka is a 2012 tribute to 1984 game of the same name, made for Apple II and Atari. The premise is simple: evil shogun imprisoned a girl and you need to save it by a series of honor melee fights one-on-one with shogun’s minions.

The game is really short, the run from the start to end takes for about 25-50 minutes usually. And if you want to compare the tribute with the original, well, it’s 50/50%: some say the original is still top-notch and the remake is so-so, and some think that even the original was mediocre, and the remake is only made the concept worse, ‘cause times had changed for 30 years, and you can’t enter the same river as it was before. And you shouldn’t, some would add. Not me, though.

Graphics are much better but still can not save or even checkpoint auto saves. AI could use more work. performance better than before. No ladder climbing ability. It has promise to be a good game but needs more work. For the cost as it is i would recommend catching it on sale. I hope they include sniper scopes with silencers, really needed.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX

Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX

In 1991, my father came home with a box. Then I (6) have no idea what a game console is. I have some Tomy Handheld toys and I play with them all day. Caveman speeder space vs.

We installed it with my father and connected it to the TV. My father did not buy a game, of course, there is one game in the console. Yes, as you guessed, that game is Alex Kidd’s miracle world.

My mind was blown at the beginning of the game. I said what is this game?

It didn’t take long for me to get used to it, and I made my way through my mother’s cries of “it’s enough, sleep now”. I came to the first boss, of course, at that time I did not know that his name was boss. I call it punch man paper head or something.

I haven’t read the other reviews for this game, I received it as a gift from one of my brothers so I just jumped straight into it. The Master System is my favourite console, I still buy games for it to this day, so I am very familiar with the original. While fundamentally flawed, it is still one of the best retro platformers of it’s era.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX is a remastered version of the game, complete with new a handful of new levels, brand new graphics and a number of changes to bring it into the modern age. The new levels are a welcome addition, very fitting into the rest of the game and adds a nice breath of fresh air to those already completely familiar with the original. I’m not personally sold on the new graphics, I think they look nice, but I will take the legacy/original look any day.

The Eternal Castle [REMASTERED]

The Eternal Castle [REMASTERED]

Read my full review at https://www.vgr.com/eternal-castle-remastered-pc-game-review

In the indie game scene, a lot of games take inspiration from the games of the past. Typically this comes in the form of tributes to oldschool consoles like the NES, SNES and Mega Drive. But it’s not often you see games that pay homage to the graphics of old IBM PC’s. The Eternal Castle, a supposed remake of a lost 1987 PC game, is such a game. And much in the vein of the game MURI, it acts as a tribute to old school PC games from the late 80’s and early 90’s. In this review we’ll be taking a look at this game and also discuss its legitimacy as a remaster. So strap in, it’s time to explore the CGA glory of The Eternal Castle.

Real player with 12.5 hrs in game

The Eternal Castle is a tribute to the cinematic platformers from the past, such as Prince of Persia or Another World . This genre does not get a lot of representation these days, so I want to support developers that make games for a limited audience. Let’s be honest, this game is made for people with nostalgia for those clunky platformers. I really enjoy the gameplay because it’s very faithful, and any subjective criticism that I have does not take away anything from its artistry (which is something really special). As far as I know, the original game that is being remastered was “lost”, but I do know that this remaster imitates animation cycle from Prince of Persia . I wish the developers would give the credit for the sources of inspiration, instead of just claiming that it’s a remaster of a classic masterpiece that nobody played. But let’s make something very clear, this game combines the features from several titles, and could not exists in its current form if it wasn’t for them.

i bought this game, expecting some casual platforming, instead i found. basically everything is tailored to wreck you kaizo mario world style. fun challenge but honestly cheap in execution and i might just refund this knowing the 1k point achievment is “Virtually” impossbile

Update: i don’t know why i didn’t include this in the original review. but she’s not even a real catgirl she doesn’t have a tail.

I ignored the bad reviews. Didn’t even read them. “They must be exaggerating, a game with a catgirl can’t be a bad game”. But it was. Lesson learned: never buy a game just because there’s an anime girl in it.

Zeus Begins

Zeus Begins

You know, I grew up playing games like Golden Axe and the Streets of Rage series, so side-scrolling beat-em-ups games are kinda part of my gaming DNA. So imagine my overwhelming sense of nostalgia when I first booted up Zeus Begins and was greeted with a story told in pictures with text at the bottom of the screen, and then the opportunity to punch random bad peeps to a pulp!

I honestly had a blast playing this, it brought back so many memories, and there are some lovely little added extras (like every boss having it’s own unique little style, and some bullet-hell vertical-scrolling shooter stages between main levels that are reminiscent of games like 1942). And getting to play as an actual god, being able to kick some serious butt only adds to the value!

Real player with 1.2 hrs in game

Zeus Begins isn’t a bad game. It just isn’t very good either. Kind of bare bones in the fighting department, which is the whole reason anyone would be playing this really. Some good ideas, like the shooter travel portions and the unique boss fights, but only barely implemented in a successful way. Solid starting point for future projects, but not worth the asking price.
