Pain Party

Pain Party

Story

After an unfortunate mini golf accident (which led to your immediate demise) you wake up in purgatory.

This is not the classical purgatory that we’ve all read about, but instead is a Japanese game show where the winners get to ascend and the losers get to spend an eternity moderating online forums without any kind of monetary compensation.

About the game

Pain Party combines that madness of a party game with the mechanics of a souls like and precision jumping.

You can either play PvP with up to 16 players or play offline in the single player mode, where you have to beat levels to unlock further progression.

Gameplay

Stamina management and Item usage

The first thing you need to learn is that everything in pain party costs stamina, from jumping, punching, dodging, to even using items.

If you run out of stamina you won’t be able to do any of that above and you’ll also walk slower so keep a close eye on that stamina meter.

There a lot of ways to get the upper hand in Pain Party, spawn-able items are one such thing.

You might find anything from blunderbusses to time stopping hour glasses.

Precision jumping

Jumping in Pain Party isn’t like in other games. Holding the jump button will make you do high but short jumps, while tapping the jump button will make you do long horizontal jumps.

Progress and unlock

Winning multiplayer matches and progressing in story mode will help you unlock skins for your character.

This game has an awesome Suikoden vibe going for it that you just don’t see often in other games. With it were longer though. Looking forward to part 2!

I played through the first chapter in EA and THIS WAS FUN! The sense of humor here is unique and makes the game charming… left me wanting to run right into the second chapter. I hope to see the next one soon! I am kinda sad that the first chapter did not have more of the recruiting and castle formation stuff, but it is forgivable as long as the content continues and we can keep playing along.

Updating this game after completing it with all achievements unlocked and even being the first person to beat Unethical mode.

This game is phenomenal. I am STILL finding myself playing it even after doing all of that because I want to do Marathon mode again and again. There are a few small glitches like textures occasionally crashing or getting stuck, but those don’t really matter when you find yourself cracking your ribs in laughter when you see someone first play the game. I’ve heard several people mention wanting multiplayer and I have to agree with them. The thought of going back and forth with your friends (this game would be perfect on the Switch) or even seeing who could go highest in Marathon mode would make this a prime example of a game a bunch of you sit on the couch and play.

I loved Warioware for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii. But I don’t have those consoles but I DO have a PC. I’ve been craving some mindless, hilarious, quick mini games and this scratches that itch! The directional keys and spacebar are used to interact with each mini game, and it’s simple to control, but the games are not so easy to figure out! Each time I lose I can’t wait to get back and see if I can score better next time. The art has a unique style and the mini games have some nostalgic references to classic and modern video games. Some are also completely off the wall! I love the humor. Just like Warioware the game speeds up as you make more progress and it keeps you coming back.

I’m a love interest in my childhood friend’s reverse harem!!!

I really liked the game! It has a unique idea. You can romance the boys or the MC itself! There is also a polyamory route! It has 11 endings and I had to replay a lot to get all of them. Overall, I enjoyed it. It was really cute.

A fun game filled with charm and humour

An Australian experience of slang, pop culture and a core of multiculturalism in its cast of Ao, Geum, Hong Yang and Emily.

The writing style is fun and upbeat and makes the characters feel like people you want to spend more time with and get to know further.

Multiple endings with each character, the options can lead to unexpected endings.

Mini games that influence interaction (and make you question your knowledge).

I’ve now bought this game twice now that it’s available on steam and i cant wait to replay it.

Got this game for a bargain price of under a dollar and so far have enjoyed it. It’s a mix of puzzle and factory-style game (e.g. Factorio crafting) with an 8-bit interface. Simple game yet challenging.

A fun simply puzzle game based around factory processing and shipment. Easy to play and enjoyable. Hope there will be an expansion pack in a few months.

Bolt Riley, A Reggae Adventure

Bolt Riley, A Reggae Adventure

It would be in my best interest to give a glowing review since I want to see this game completed but I need to be honest about the progress made so far. I do realise this game is considered Early Access and I know the budget for this game is pretty small, and you should keep that in mind too (if you end up reading the in-depth review linked below), but ultimately, is it something I would recommend to my friends or the gaming public in its current state? Considering the artwork still needs some touching up, bugs were encountered way too frequently, the UI needs fixing and the first chapter is way too short, probably not. I’m hoping that Adventure Mob will eventually prove me wrong though, as I really want this game to succeed.

Bolt Riley is a well-intentioned but uniformly misguided proof of concept.

Presumably the developers naively underestimated the effort required to achieve the level of quality best suited to their vision. Instead, they opted to release an embarrassingly short and painfully butchered appetizer.

One should be easily inclined to forgive unrefined details in Early Access but no update in over a year severely burdens the game’s credibility.

Jake’s Love Story

Jake’s Love Story

Very Fun VN, for the price it’s pretty good. Probably one of the only Novels that I’ve really enjoyed in a while. Has typos that might trigger some but I try to look past that. Was pretty hooked and even Completed all the achievements, I felt somewhat complete when I finally figured out the right things to say and do.

Spoiler Ahead

! But I was hoping for a harem ending as well when you ask them both to prom ;) Wink Wink

THIS GAME, I mean, woah, I gotta calm down here. Jake’s Love Story for the PC is quite possibly the hardest game I have ever played. Forget Silver Surfer, Dark Souls, Hotline Miami 2, whatever. This game doesn’t mess around. I struggle to even play this game for more than a few minutes before I have a mental breakdown and want to play something else. I don’t even save my progress, I just close the game.

The difficulty of this game… is LEGENDARY. If you wanna play this game, YOU GOTTA BE HARDCORE.

Trombone Champ

Trombone Champ

Trombone Champ is the world’s first trombone-based rhythm music game. Unlike most music games, you can freely play any note at any time. You’re not just following along with the music, you’re actually playing the music!

  • Toot your way through over 20 tracks. The better you play, the more toots you earn!

  • Collect all 50 Tromboner Cards!

  • Baboons on nearly every screen!

  • Improvise and play whatever you want in Freeplay Mode!

  • Uncover the secrets of the Trombiverse and become the True Trombone Champ!

  • Absolutely zero microtransactions!

  • Playable with mouse and keyboard (recommended) or USB controllers!

  • Appropriate for all ages!

Music

Trombone Champ features over 20 tracks, which include anthems, marches, classical pieces, electronica, folk classics, and more. The game also includes tracks from exciting guest artists. Each track has a unique animated background that moves with the music!

Tromboner Cards

Use the “Toots” you earn from playing songs to purchase sacks of Tromboner Cards. These cards can be used to unlock new tromboners, new trombone colors, and other mysteries!

Controls

The game can be played with a controller, but a mouse is recommended. Move your arm forward and back, like a trombone, and the pitch of the note will slide up and down to match! Click or use the keyboard to blow! The sounds your trombone makes are completely controlled by you. The closer you are to the music track, the more points you will earn, but you have the freedom to play anything you want at any time!

Baboons

Nearly every screen in the game, beginning with the main menu, features one or more baboons. You won’t believe how many baboons there are in this game! As you discover the secrets of the Trombiverse, their purpose may become clear… but only a true Trombone Champ will uncover their full meaning.

I really enjoyed Trials and Traces: The Tomb of Thomas Tew, an earlier game by this developer, Because Because. It’s not available on Steam as of the writing of this review, but it is available over on itch.io. It was a nice little gem within a collection of other independent adventure games, with turned out to be a great purchase, because it put games like Death Has a Million Stomping Boots and Beard in the Mirror on my radar.

When Because Because released Detective Boiled-Hard, I jumped on it right away. This game is a bit on the shorter side, clocking in at about 90 minutes of play – but it’s a solid and enjoyable (and fully voice-acted!) 90 minutes. Detective Boiled-Hard never once pretends to be a serious game of any sort. It fully embraces bad jokes, self-referential humor, so-bad-they’re-amazing celebrity impersonations, and insane situations.
