Siphonophore

Siphonophore

I was a beta tester for Siphonophore so I’ll go into a bit more depth about the game.

TL:DR - I enjoyed my time with the game, The gameplay loop is simple and fun, Boss fights are challenging and the game’s story kept me interested while at times a little confused.

Gameplay/Difficulty

You start off with a basic cannon like weapon which you will be using for a majority of the game with new weapons and colour upgrades becoming available once you have defeated each boss. You also have a dash ability that can be used to propel you short or long distances with momentum affecting how far you travel. The creature also has some weapons to deal with enemies and is more useful against the bigger enemies you encounter.

Tip: Hold E and use scroll wheel to enable progress.

So far I don’t think it’s a masterpiece. The gameplay is lacking due to the large number of enemies, important indicators communicated exclusively through the HUD, and near complete lack of distinction between food and foe.

However, it’s worth playing. The aesthetic and sound design are just like in the trailer, and the dialogue while probably thoughtless gibberish is entertaining to read (except in the extended tutorial that entirely misses the core issue).

Review by Gaming Masterpieces - The greatest games of all time on Steam.

|

Is this game a masterpiece? No, but it is a fine time-waster for anyone who likes the genre. It plays fast and satisfying, the visual presentation is good and magic spells and bossfights require a bit of thought during the mayhem.

It is a platformer on speed. You play a heroine with a long reaching sword which she can use very skilled (and fast), slicing through weak enemies like pudding while guitar riffs provide the musical background. There is no stamina bar, so you can slash as much as you want. You can also use a magic weapon (only one of the 20 that can be found can be equipped), as long as you still have magical energy (which regenerates over time). Killing enemies and destroying the picturesque environements (hanging corpses, gloomy lightsources) often yields you pickups. The sword can be used fast and has a far reach, so it is not too difficult to defeat your foes, also you can (double, later triple) jump rather far, which makes the platforming a joy. So, with a little bit of training, you slice through the levels quite fast - until you reach the boss at the end, where a little more concentration is necessary. With enough pickups, you can upgrade your heroine’s powers, when you die (you start with only one life but quite a few health points) you restart at the last checkpoint (without the upgrades). Game progress is saved when you complete one of the eight stages.

Mythos Ever After: A Cthulhu Dating Sim

A very short uhm “Dating Sim” with a wide and eclectic cast of characters to interact with. TBH for me its was much more of a head scratcher than anything else. It was hard for me to really find and keep up with any real kind of story line, as there seemed to be several all playing out at once, with a steady rush of decisions to make on things that arnt really fully fleshed out enough to know exactly what you are making the decision about, nevermind guess as to what sort of out come any decision will have (in advance of making it that is, everything gets wrapped up in the end, even if you have know idea what you were doing as you played)

**"not suitable for children or those of a nervous disposition"**

Take heed of this screen opener. Do not let the kids near this despite Zee Tee's cuteness and happy flowers on the store page. The simple premise in this short platform puzzler is about our brave adventurer Zee Tee rescuing the lovely Princess. It has easy controls with arrow keys and up or Z for jump which can be configured to your preference and full screen mode.

Now if this was the sum of its parts I would not be recommending this game. It is not really a spoiler to say that this is not the whole story. The strength of this title is drawing on the music and nightmarish imagery to invoke a feeling of disturbing unsettlement and confusion. This is down to the juxtaposition of cute 16 bit style and the more darker images as the game progresses .It does not hold your hand in explaining anything.

Let's get this out of the way right now: I'm not that great at platformers, but I'm very patient. If I do something enough, I'll eventually get it. With that being said, that is exactly how this game went for me. I had to be very patient, because I died A LOT.

I've owned this game for quite a long time, but just got around to finishing it today and getting 100% acheivements on it. The reason I put it off so long? Couldn't quite get one of the jumps in the 4th world, and subsequently lost interest. This game is very specific, and punishes even the smallest errors once you've made it to world two or three. I would advise against playing this game if you're frustrated easily, or if you think it'll be a walk in the park. That being said, I'm sure there's a lot of people out there better at this kind of thing than me.

## Excidio The Kaiju Game

from the moment i saw this game i was interested because there aren't many games like this so it was nice to see a fun monster game on steam the game is pretty fun and destruction is pretty satisfying but the one problem that this game suffers from is lack of content but that can be excused because this game is still in early access but if there are some things that could improve are the enemy types and the city i wish it could be bigger but hopefully future updates will help the lack of content overall this is 8.5/10

its the best kaiju game on steam! (espetioly because there aren't many kaiju games on steam)really the destruction is close to as good as teardown there isn't much at the moment but of course that's to be expected and what there is the dev did really well!

## Lost Remnant: Roaches to Riches

Great followup from the first game, but you do not have to play the first game for this one to make sense. I really like the game play. You start by yourself and then hopefully make enough money to employ others and then automate part of the process so you can explore and figure out other facets of the game. I feel as though this game was well thought out and has a great story line. I would personally recommend this game.

Fun game. The world building story is dark and mysterious. A fantasy horror world with a fun, if not grindy economy management sim.

The dev/author is friendly and responsive if you're like me and click though something you should have read and need help.

![Adventures in the Light & Dark](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/841790/header.jpg "")

## Adventures in the Light & Dark

'Adventures In the Light & Dark' is like no other reading experience. It was like I was right alongside with Theo, travelling into places unknown, meeting new characters and discovering new secrets. Being surrounded with extra audio and visual elements truly brought the story to life! I felt myself walking through the woods, listening the sounds of nature and the crackling fire. While I definitely recommend this book to other readers, I would recommend it to older teenagers, mainly because it will resonate better with them. The writing is tame enough that younger teens could also read it, but most of the characters are growing up to be adults or on the verge of adulthood. Older readers would take the most from it since they can not only relate, but they may also better pick up on and appreciate Theo's sometimes subtle humor.

Reading this book in VR was very immersive, with the subtle sound effects in the background and the visual animations to keep you engaged. I found that the main character Theo was very captivating and I kept wanting to see what is next in our journey through the wilderness.

This is an Indie written expierence that deserves attention for the quality put into the writing and characters in this story and I recommend this to anybody that wants to get into VR reading experiences, or anybody is just looking for a new casual read.
