Rebuild 3: Gangs of Deadsville

Rebuild 3: Gangs of Deadsville

A series that takes an inventive twist on the zombie apocalypse setting, Rebuild takes the “man versus man versus nature” struggle present in most games pertaining to zombies and reframes the gameplay from the more common action/shooter elements and turns it into a 4X game of conquest. The world of Rebuild is one in which the survivors are all fairly competent people. Nobody here is an idiot that is going to stand there and quiver in fear while the zombies take a bite out of their neck. The primary struggle is maintaining the flow of your resources and zombies are only really a threat when you spread your people thin. Fortunately the game manages to balance this well so that you’re generally never too comfortable that you don’t have to worry. Each map tends to follow the same flow of scrambling your survivors frantically so you can find food to eat that night to having a slight bit of breathing room so that you can begin to, as the title suggests, Rebuild and then challenge the AI factions present. Zombies ramp up their difficulty as time goes on as well. There are a few strategies that generally guarantee victory as long as you execute them well but I’ll leave you to figure out what those are. It has clever nooks and crannies and like any other good 4X you’ve played it’ll keep you up all night as you have multiple goals planned out at once, one of which can always be achieved in Just One More Turn. The ebb and flow guarantees that you’ve always got something to do.

As Far As The Eye

As Far As The Eye

This game was incredibly brutal until I discovered the Council building and the Knowledge resource, and then it became an incredibly fair and deep city-building/roguelike/4x game.

The biggest problem with the game is there isn’t a good reference for how all the mechanics work. I think it will be better once an online wiki is available.

My tips for a winning initial game:

Opening:

1. Get 40 wood and build a sawmill. Assign one of your workers to be a gatherer and gather wood. Later, when you don’t need wood, switch this worker to be a food gatherer and build a fruit hut for 80 (you can do this earlier if you get a 4th worker). You should have enough rations for this, and the carpenter/fruit gatherer jobs share the first 3 levels.

I too believe that this is a nice game if you enjoy roguelike games.

When I first saw the list of buildable buildings I was worried the game wouldnt have much depth, as there are exactly 15 buildings which can be built.

So .. I was worried I will just figure out how things work and lose interest in the game after a few days, because I found some safe winning strategy.

Luckily it was different!

The overall difficulty is quite high. After the tutorial campaign you get to play 4 tribes with increasing difficulty (you have to start with the lowest difficulty tribe). However, even that tribe took me quite some effort to win with.

I would absolutely recommend this exceptionally unique and very deep RTS, but be aware that it’s not for everyone and the game still needs some fine tuning.

There are quite a few negative reviews that never game a fair chance, and one that suspected it was a scam because of a major issue preventing some people from playing. I can verify that issue has definitely been resolved - however, there are still some minor bugs/issues.

Get this game if:

-You like well-crafted, deep real-time strategy games that are turn-based.

It’s 2021, I’m riding around on a bug mount I farmed in Classic WoW with the help of some sick bros. I just figure let’s look around for some bug games, stumble upon this beauty. If you enjoy games like Civ, give it a try, plan on staying in my own colony digging to the bottom of this game and a bottle suntory. If you’re a gamer, like me who reads these reviews, you will not be disappoint. Now let me get back to that bottle.

Shelter Manager

Shelter Manager

I checked the game and it’s quite intuitive. There are resources you can spend on construction. They have tools drawn on the icon. Work points keep generating and later can be used in production and construction and so on and so on.

Shelter is more like a simulation manager game and I like it.

Terraformers: First Steps on Mars

Terraformers: First Steps on Mars

Interesting theme, the graphics are simple but cool, the music is nice, it does run on GNU/Linux, but after eight hours of repetitive play, I wouldn’t call this a civ strategy kind of game, but more like a deck building card game, with lots of randomness, which gets you nowhere. You just need to be lucky to get the right cards at the right time for the right random spots to get a better score. No matter how good your planning is, there is too much luck involved. Maybe the 30 days span of a gameplay is too short for seeing the bigger picture, this is just a demo after all, but that’s my take on the current game. I do wish the devs good luck and I hope the final game offers a better experience.

A pretty solid board game

Game is very reminiscent of the popular board game Terraforming Mars, with some slight changes.

  1. Your starting hand is always the same 2 cards

  2. Beyond Oxygen, H2O and Temperature, there’s a nebulous “atmosphere” terraform setting

  3. Ever 10 years you select a leader, who has special abilities and traits that can be used on your turn

  4. Pop happiness is measured and scored.

Overall its fun for a few play throughs, but with the same 6 leaders, same starting hand, and hard 30 turn limit, you’ll only have fun for a bit.

Citizens

Citizens

Citizens is a turn-based hybrid of a city builder and strategic puzzler where you create beautiful cities, manage resources, plan long term investments, trade with foreign civilisations and look after your subjects. Explore beautiful islands, deal with difficult problems, and think about your next move very carefully, for it could be your undoing!

Planning your expansion is extremely important. Play through a challenging campaign which puts you into a large variety of scenarios, focusing on economy, trade, and warfare. If you prefer a more sandbox experience, try Challenge and Free build modes, where you are given more freedom to explore and experiment.

If you feel you don’t need to know anything else, just try the demo! Six challenging islands are all yours to conquer. Be weary though, for you’re not alone in this world; there are others who already inhabit it… and they won’t let you take their land without a fight.

Our demo offers you a taste of what Citizens is like. It presents you with early-game mechanics and showcases the basics of the grid-based combat system, which is greatly expanded upon in the full release.

Your feedback is super important to us. Join our discord, pop us an e-mail or even write a message on the community board; let us know what you think, what you like and what you don’t like, so that we can make the game even better. The Demo will be continuously supported along with the main release.

As an architect of your settlement, you need to carefully exploit the resources around the area. With a limited number of turns to achieve your goal, every move counts. Explore over 50 different buildings spread over several production chains and extract or process over 30 different resources, including but not limited to Timber, Pottery, Cheese, Wine and various forms of Weaponry. Collect tax from your Citizens as they pay for luxury goods, provide your people with jobs and build a glorious civilisation. Along your journey you will meet other civilisations with whom you can trade, or wage war.

Citizens offers:

  • New approach to city-building games

  • Campaign with challenging quests

  • A ton of replayability!

  • Combat and Trade

  • Endless fun with random level generation

Meet various civilisations along the way. Sightsee the Aztec pyramids, trade with the people of the Orient, and defend yourself from plunderous Vikings! Focus on trade or combat depending on which path you take in the campaign. Certain civilisations might even have some interesting resources for sale, unobtainable by your own hand!

Citizens offers a grid-based combat system; it’s designed to feel familiar to strategy veterans, and to be easily picked up by newcomers. If battles are not your thing though, that’s fine. Diplomacy is always an option! Well… most of the time.

Be mindful… Other civilisations are not your only enemies. Fire and Plague can be as dangerous as the Sword.

With all this doom and gloom above, just keep in mind this…

If all you want is a peaceful and soothing experience, then try out Free-Build mode! Place buildings without any restrictions on a randomly generated island, or try out economy mode for something more challenging: that’s where anything can happen! You’ll never run out of new lands to explore. Something will always be different.
