  • Very relaxing.

  • The evolution system is realistic.

  • You can feel the power growing.

  • Kind of dislike the fact that we must kill our own beetles.

  • Don’t be too boldy. It is a relaxing game. Not a “Conquer as quick as possible” game.

  • You end up with a mess on the floor.

  • Decorations are useless and lack of potential.

  • Kind of annoying how the inventories work. Lack of organization. Annoying to navigate.

Conclusion :

I am really not sure if this game is supposed to be beautiful or efficient…

While at this time it is still in early access, this title has a lot going for it even with some of the drawbacks.

Its a nice little management game with some real time tactics for the combat, that grows in depth once you start playing around with the genetics to improve your combat abilities. You go from simply looking at your highest stat numbers and trying to combine them, into looking at the genetic tree of your particular units then breeding based off that to improve on your entire gene pool, which does lead into one aspect of the game that needs some work in my opinion at this stage as you spend a lot of time just sat there, combining genes then throwing the inferior beetles into a blender to make room for the next set.

I have been playing this game for just over a week, and have already put in 40+ hours. I believe that Anarkis Gaming has got a great game her, and they continue to improve it as it is still Early Access. I have always been a fan of Base Building games, and the “Post Apocalypse” part of the genre is fun for sure! My first few times playing I didn’t last more than a day or 2 as I was still learning how to balance workload of the survivors. I will say that the best way to do things is small pieces at a time. Do not build multiple rooms/buildings/items at once as your survivors will be overwhelmed and not be able to complete anything. Overall, I love this game so far, and hope they continue to build on the great base they already have. I’ll finish my review with Pros and Cons.

An innovative base builder with people and expeditionary management. This review is based on Early Access 0.8.3 and for me it plays like a fairly smooth beta, rather than an Alpha build. Quite stable, with no real issues now, and quite a reasonable amount of content to play with.

The developers are quite active and responsive, critical for any EA title. I have no concerns about this one getting to full release which I can’t say about all my EA games unfortunately. There is already several game modes and scenarios which makes great for replay value. The GUI was easy to adopt, and the variety of options for creating games I was very pleased with. There’s a lot of things you can adjust to your liking, and that level of customisation at this point is outstanding,

This is a fun little game in early development. Start by awakening in a small ruins underground on an alien planet. Dig out rooms and gather resources to build the base that was supposed to be awaiting you, but something went wrong. But you do get a few friends to help and a little spidery robot. More survivors and robots can be found burried outside your base. The only food at this time is potatoes, that can be made into mashed potatoes (This must be heaven for the Irish), but more crops and items are planned. Water pipes and electrical is not very intuitive, but a little trial and error will teach you all you need to know. After a game week you will have all the tech tree filled and have built all there is to build, but with an elevator to the surface and more content planned, this game has a ton of potential. This game is hours of fun, but not days of fun. Only buy now if you are willing to get it cheap and wait for more content to follow. I had 2 crashes and a bug where a survivor became stuck until I reloaded. Compared to other early releases this is pretty minor. As more content is added I am sure most people will find this very enjoyable. I recommend this game.

The game is in the early stage of EA which means it is not a full game yet and bugs, crashes and lag can happen.

That said, in the 30+ hours i played, the game has crashed once and never had any lag issues even on the highest possible settings.

So is there anything to do already?

For the stage MF is in yes.

It has the basic items to build your base and with research you can add new rooms, equipement and other options.

You can refine the raw materials from mining and farming and use those to make building materials, food, bots or refine them into next tier materials. Besides the production of bots you can also clone colonists.

needs more info. unplayable in current state. you will fail because of a resorce you didnt know you needed to make another requires the first, and a string of 3 more, however this is more info on that fact then the game will give you. playing you will have fun untill you grind to a halt because you didnt rush iron-steel bars-copper- copper bars-copper plates-microelectronics-gas-fuel cells, if you get behind you have lost, there is no coming back from one of these buildings losing power, your guys are best suited to doing one or at max two jobs as they run around like chickens with there heads cut off chasing invisible resorces. i lost 2 times one because i didnt understand my guys have ZERO controll minus telling them were to mine or build, not to mine or build. and a second time i microed my 2 chaines well and didnt figure out that coper plates/microelectronics were part of the power the building chain, lost because you cant make enough to power that chain with one building, meaning you somehow have to create extra energy or never build a building incorectly dont try for shoes or armor or anything cool it will ruin the power chain you have to run, taking the power grids away from the main chain will also resault in one or more of your buildings going unpowered, and they compeat for resorces with your units “life” bar battery thing, taking iron bars and a fair few people to make it. the food/ o2 system will almost never come into play if you take 1 min every half-hour of play to mine water/seaweed from the ground. this is the best tutorial for this game out there btw. cement=hard rocks , sand , water . steel bars= iron ore. coper plates= coper bars= coper ore. batteries=acid+steel bars. acid=sulfer. food=seaweed+water. o2=water. legit better than ingame id sugest if you get this get a notebook and wright it down, share it with the next chump afterwords.

I’ve bought a lot of games over the years. Most I play and forget and the pile of those games serves as nothing but a lesson to buy carefully and to remember replay-ability. A colony building sim with plenty of flavor and fun that rarely gets boring.

This is not one of those games. It has lasted me years of constant entertainment. A spiritual heir of Dwarf Fortress (before my time) in space where anything can happen and things scale up properly. So many variables and steady but solid updates from the Dev and a healthy mod community that keeps the best afloat.

A Rimworld story:

Dave is gay. Bill is beautiful, but not gay. Dave hits on Bill. Bill says no thanks. Dave has a breakdown and wanders in a daze. A raid suddenly hits. They attack Dave. Dave is downed by the raiders. Bill isn’t capable of fighting or medical tasks. Bill is attacked and downed too. The raiders steal some stuff and set the fields on fire. Bill becomes able to walk again, but can’t help Dave. Dave dies from bleeding out. Bill has another mental break, this time from the loss of his best friend Dave. Bill attacks their pet warg which pushes the pet overboard and then it attacks Bill. Bill is downed. The fires are raging through the mostly wood base and eventually Bill is set on fire. Bill dies from the fire.

It’s literally just Dwarf Fortress with some key differences.

Good:

-Visually simplistic but you can generally tell what everything is without manually checking

-Intuitive controls with manual settings and priority for jobs/production

-Clean UI that doesn’t eat 40% of the screen and even condenses itself down into toggles when not in use

-Manual speed control and fairly well optimized instead of Dwarf Fortress' legendary jank

-Seasonal system similar to Rimworld, with random events akin to Dwarf Fortress

definitely needs more time in the oven, but extremely promising and maybe the first game i’ve seen to come even slightly close to the feeling of dwarf fortress without being completely horrible to learn, although it’s sure not close enough yet. if you want that kind of thing watch this space and buy it preemptively if you’ve got the money.

PROS:

genuinely fun and quick to build in - i had a little village under construction in like two minutes and the little guys were mobile enough that i didn’t have to fumble around making scaffolds or whatever, although i probably would have if i’d gone more ambitious

Clanfolk is an elaborate life sim set in the highlands of medieval Scotland.

Live off the land using historically accurate tools and processes to survive while building a growing settlement for your Clan. Every tile on the map has a purpose. Where you place your settlement, and how you build it, really matters.

Clanfolk will execute your grand building plans while also intelligently fulfilling their own personal needs. Get to know your Clanfolk as they live their entire lives in your care.

The world is fully simulated, and the largest threat is nature itself. Initially, food will be plentiful and the nights warm. There is lots of time to plan and enjoy the medieval homestead atmosphere. As the seasons change, resources will dwindle and careful planning becomes critical. Surviving your first winter is highly unlikely.

Colony Sim

The Clanfolk’s homestead will begin as a wilderness surrounded by mountains, forests, grasslands, and lakes. Over time it may develop into an industrial farm, or a livestock ranch, or a bustling trading post, or a quiet forest Inn, or maybe a hidden mountain fortress.

  • Build sealed structures out of Floor, Wall, and Roof tiles.

  • Structures track lighting, warmth, beauty and various unhappy smells.

  • Windows allow ambient lighting into rooms.

  • Use wall torches and fires to heat, light, and occasionally burn down straw houses.

  • Venting system to allow fire and body heat to travel from room to room.

  • Door locking system to keep Clanfolk, visitors, and livestock where they belong.

  • Storage container objects to keep the ground clutter under control.

  • Crafting can be prioritized, scheduled daily, and also controlled by maintaining a desired supply.

  • Till the land, plant seeds, water them, add fertilizer, harvest, re-till the soil, and start again. All automated to the level you desire

  • Care for livestock from birth. Keep them warm, dry, fed, watered, and clean their stalls.

  • Learn just how hard it was to make a linen shirt. Grow the flax, thresh out the seed, throw the stalks in a river, let them rot for months, strip the loosened fibers from the stalks, spin the fibers into thread, weave the threads into cloth on the loom, and THEN sew your linen shirt!

Life Sim

Clanfolk live their whole lives on the Clan homestead, from birth until death over multiple generations. Clanfolk follow daily schedules, waking up before sunrise, taking their morning meals, washing up, and maybe having a conversations before the day’s work starts. Throughout the day, they will work as hard as their mood and health will allow. In the evening, they finally all come back together to eat, drink, have a chat, maybe play the flute for a while, then off to bed, hopefully a little better off than the day before.

  • Clanfolk needs include: Hunger, Thirst, Sleep, Warmth, Cleanliness, Bathroom, Social, Fun, Beauty, and the inexplicable need for Plaid

  • When needs are not within safe ranges, then afflictions may result. These afflictions can range from having a bad mood, to a cold that slowly deteriorates into pneumonia.

  • Clanfolk have many skills which are improved through use. Skills can be prioritized or disabled to give Clanfolk different job roles to best utilize their skills.

  • Babies inherit some skill proficiency from their parents. They are mostly time vampires, but they are cute and keep everyone’s' mood up (during the day)

  • Babies grow into Juveniles that begin to provide labor. Juveniles are idea sponges, working slowly but learning much faster than adults.

  • When Juveniles become Adults, their learning slows, but Adults finally work at full speed. Ideally, their childhood will have been spent on jobs that they enjoy, making them experts by adulthood. Another benefit of adulthood is the ability to have children to grow the Clan.

  • Eventually Adults become Seniors. Seniors work and move more slowly than Adults, but they have the highest skills and provide learning bonuses to others working near them.

  • Finally the Seniors will be unable to work and will need to be cared for. Clanfolk are able to understand the needs of other Clanfolk and are able to take care of the sick and injured, fulfilling all their needs when possible. Once the Senior dies, they can be buried in the family plot, and the cycle continues.

World Sim

The seasons in Clanfolk never seem long enough. Winter is always approaching and your time needs to be spent wisely. Each Season has ranges of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and even windchill. Some seasons are for growing and others for harvesting. Winter is for staying inside a warm room and processing the materials collected throughout the year.

  • All four seasons have smooth transitions between them, ever advancing and changing each day.

  • Sparks start fires that spread throughout the environment based on moisture and object flammability.

  • Plant growth system that is aware of ground moisture as well as fertility level, which can be changed with watering and fertilizer.

  • Overlays to quickly show fertility, moisture, heat, and beauty.

Neighbor Clans

Visitors will occasionally arrive from neighboring Clans surrounding the homestead. Over time your reputation with these neighbors can grow based on how they are treated as guests, workers, or traders. As your reputation increases with these Clans, contact will strengthen, providing better opportunities.

  • Each neighbor Clan comes from a different Biome with different products and desired items for trade. The savvy player can run a profitable trading post if there is enough trade traffic from different Clans.

  • As seasons progress, different items become more scarce and therefore more expensive.

  • Neighbor clans have intrinsic skill bonuses based on their Clan type as well as their Biome. When looking for the best workers (and potential partners) keep these in mind.

  • Neighbors do not send their best and brightest visitors until relations between the player Clan and the neighbor are strong.

Fantastic little game, built by two devs who show their passion in this game and backed by the people who made SUPERHOT. Definitely worth a look.

You have 30 minutes to save as many people as you can. You get to build roads, logging camps, mines, power, tear down buildings, scavenge, and more resource collection and management with time pressure hanging over you. It’s not as intense as FrostPunk, nor is it meant to be. It’s something for when you have 30-60 minutes and want to play something that’ll challenge you but not overwhelm or stress you.

T-Minus 30 is a unique take on the city building genre. You are trying to gather enough resources to get the remaining survivors off of Earth before the world ends. Each run lasts for only 30 minutes and you feel the pressure as the time ticks down closer to closer to the end.

There are multiple types of rockets to build that will allow you to have various strategies to evacuate. Do you concentrate on the most advanced rockets that hold the most people, even though they cost the most resources? Do you try to focus on the nature based ships that are cheaper to build, but require a complete water distribution system? There really isn’t a wrong way to play T-Minus 30. Trying to chase higher places on the leader board is fun as well.
