FREEDOM FIGHTERS REVIEW

My brother & I have been playing this game a lot over the years. We have this on PS2. We love this game and always wanted to see a PC release. But when we found that there was no multiplayer in the PC version, we were pretty disappointed. We always played multiplayer together even with other friends. I thought about an easy way of implementing co-op. At first, I wanted Bagzton or Isabella to be Player 2. But that didn’t make sense since

! Isabella gets kidnapped and Bagzton never fights. So I came up with something simple: Player 1 recruits a soldier and Player 2 controls that soldier. So, without further ado….

A Quick and Dirty Port of an Old Classic

System and Setup:

Windows 10 64bit

Intel Core i9 10900K

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER

The game doesn’t have native controller support, so I made some controller configurations. For more on that, look here:

Review:

Originally released in the ancient, prehistoric year of 2003, Freedom Fighters tells a story of resistance in an alternate timeline where the USSR beat the United States to the atomic bomb and ended World War II by dropping it upon Berlin. This change of events leads to a much different Cold War, one where the Soviet Union becomes the ascendant global superpower and the United States quickly finds itself weak and alone, surviving only on borrowed time. Against this backdrop, the player takes on the role of New York plumber Chris Stone, whose day-to-day life is shattered by an armed Soviet invasion of the country. With his brother captured and his country occupied, Chris quickly finds that the only way to solve his problems is to engage in that great, time-honored American pastime: murdering Communists.

Simplistic, boring action game.

I did not expect much from Repa Games, seeing that their games look like asset flips. This might be one. If not, it is otherwise a low-effort game.

Store page also lies or at least exaggerates greatly. It lists the following features:

[olist]

  • Increasing Complexity* Dynamic Music* Beautiful Visual style[/olist]

First, there’s three enemy types. Each has one straightforward attack pattern. The game progresses in “waves” that show diminutive differences to each other; maybe there’s slightly more enemies in each wave. I couldn’t tell the difference.

It’s FREE! …but, you get what you pay for.

I gave this a thumbs up only because it’s free…. ONLY. Because. it’s. Free.

I wanted to like this, especially since many people compared it to Half-Life, but …..

Half-Life is worlds better….Alternate Dimensions better, even.

This is more of a “Half-LIE”

or

“Half of A Half of a Half-Life” (One-Eighth-Life?)

or

a “I wish I had the 5-hours I played back so I could play Half-Life”…… kinda game.

This is NOT Half-Life, sorry….it’s not even close. There’s no explanation as to who you are or where, and no chattering scientists making foolish decisions as you listen in. You’re in some big industrial complex with zombies that attack you and non-zombie soldiers that (surprise) attack you. No aliens or mutants (unless you count the zombies) or anything that’s really interesting at all. Soldiers just say they spotted you and start shooting.

DEFINETLY WORTH PLAYING! Starting off, I would like to say that the game is short, it’s about half an hour, or an hour long depending on you. The game doesn’t really tell a story, but it’s an amazing 90’s style shooter, that brings back memories to me, back to when I wasn’t even born. The game’s got this nostalgic feeling to it, and I love it. The game is honestly more fun to play multiplayer, because of it’s wonky movements, and game style. I’d love to see further updates to this game.

Terminal Conflict

Terminal Conflict

Edited review at 106 hours played.

I would definitely recommend this game for anyone interested in the cold war. I haven’t played the game ‘Twilight Struggle’ myself, but I hear it is quite like that game and I reckon if you like that game chances are good you’ll like Terminal Conflict too.

I think game captures the essence of the cold war quite well - USSR vs USA, proxy wars and managing the home front while you’re trying to achieve your goals. Intelligence is a big part of the game, especially with the Eyes Only DLC. War is abstracted, but still challenging.

In this Cold War strategy game, you assume command of either the USA or the USSR. You compete with the enemy by influencing regions, recruiting historical leaders to your cause, sometimes outright engaging the enemy forces in combat as well. Both factions have unique events, decisions and leaders. Literally every singleplayer playthrough can result in a different conclusion as the AI is dynamic and provides a challenge on its own, although its still no match for an experienced player. One thing to note though, the game is more focused on the political machinations of the Cold War, rather than military. Funding, spying, sometimes even assassinating your way to victory. Despite this, of course, military units still play a large part in the game.

Trash! wonky controls, cant pick up find ammo anywhere. Cant punch only kick road house lol. vegitation stops bullets!!

STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS TRASH! Do NOT give this developer your money or you will regret it. I really do not see how Steam allows garbage like this on their store, especially when it is not marked as early access and is made by a developer who has made no other games and who is just looking for a quick cash grab.

This game is absolute trash with TONS of major bugs such as loading screens dropping you completely out of the game map and loading previous saves placing you right in the heat of a gun battle where you are quickly killed. There is also so much smoke everywhere when shooting that you cannot see the enemy dodging back and forth. Loud gunfire goes off right next to some enemies while they just stand there oblivious to everything. Bushes stop bullets too. There are also invisible walls everywhere, you cannot play in 4k resolution, clicking save does not show on the screen that the game saved, and you cannot remap several controls. You also cannot pick up any weapons or ammo. So when you run out, that’s it. You either start using melee, which is kicking only and no punching, or you start the game over. This is truly an awful excuse for a game. Please do not waste your money on this one.

Wolfstride

Wolfstride

Wolfstride is a refreshing and unique blend of style, coolness and madness. The graphics and music are just sooo good. The swift animations fit perfectly and just make it so natural and yet at times so suddenly… “POoW!”. All the Art in this game is very well achieved, genuine and inspired, but the SOUL of it all, it’s the story… It’s a ShatTered Soul, and when looking back into this experience it may feel like a story of random unrelated episodes that are hammered together into one shape/Shade using the power of craziness. Should this even work!? It does, because it achieves those levels of funny and extroversion we got used to watching and loving on very famous and successful animes.

Finished it and wow what a great game.

Pros:

everything, this game is truly a storytelling masterpiece

with its great humor, game-play, drama and over-all mechanics.

Plenty of customization to play your way but there’s hardly any

at the beginning and end

Cons:

found 3 misspelled words.

there are some tedious mini-games and even the main game-play

is a little repetitive after a while.

some of the storytelling is a little drawn out but it usually never leaves

you without an option to skip it if it’s getting boring for you.

Graphics are much better but still can not save or even checkpoint auto saves. AI could use more work. performance better than before. No ladder climbing ability. It has promise to be a good game but needs more work. For the cost as it is i would recommend catching it on sale. I hope they include sniper scopes with silencers, really needed.

Möbius Front ‘83

Möbius Front ‘83

I think this is my first Steam review; I watched a talk from Zach and he said that he takes feedback seriously so I figured, why not?

I love Zachtronics’ coding games, and I also love turn-based wargames, so I was pretty excited for this one. Unfortunately I think they’ve missed the mark this time. There’s a lot to like, but while it has the pleasing simplicity of games like Into the Breach (single-digit numbers for health, damage, range, and speed, grid map, etc.) it lacking some of the elegance.

Real player with 53.5 hrs in game

Möbius Front 83 is a simple and good game. Yet to finish it, but played enough of it to say what I think.

PROS:

  • Great presentation, graphics is aesthetically pleasing, great animations of units – I love how dust animation is used to indicate direction of movement of vehicles.

  • Outstanding sound design. Muffled sound of weapon fire and explosion sound like you hear weapons firing in the distance or if, like I imagine it would be to hear sound of weapons firing while you sit in an armoured vehicle.
