RAID: World War II
IN A WORD: MAYBE
IN SHORT:
WHAT TO EXPECT: Payday meets World War 2. Solo and coop stealth or combat gameplay. Objective oriented maps. Immersive WW2 atmosphere. Authetic looking setting and locations. Steam inventory mission cards. Good range of maps, weapons and playable characters. Good character customization. Very good writing and voiceovers. Minor base and cosmetic upgrades. Average AI. Fairly balanced gameplay. More enemy types would have been nice. An almost dead community. Long endgame grind. Very limited healing mechanics. Needs good players for hardest difficulty.

First off all: I did not buy this game, but I won it during a giveaway on a stream where people were playing it. I’ve had it for quite some time, but I only decided to pick it up recently. In hindsight I should’ve played it right away when the game was still actively being developed, but unfortunately I can’t change the past. Or fortunately? I don’t know. They tend to mess things up in the movies. Anyway, time for the actual review.
RAID: World War II is one of those games you go in with low expectations: bad overall reviews and a low active player count. But the game actually surprised me. Sure, it’s nowhere near perfect, but there is potential. The biggest issue however is this player count. It’s designed to be a co-operative game, but you’re lucky to find even a single lobby to play in. Your chances are slightly higher when you think the “normal” difficulty is acceptable, but you’re usually out of luck despite the recent influx of players. I’m afraid that even if the developers would unexpectedly fix many of the issues the game has, it still wouldn’t get the players it so desperately needs. It is very much playable when you’re alone, but more on that later.

Soldiers: Heroes of World War II
This is a more modern rendition of the old Commandos (1998) that we used to know and love. It’s every bit as difficult but hosts prettier graphics; this was a sort of forerunner to Relic’s venerable Company of Heroes with similar map views and destructable environments. I’ve not struggled in a game so much since Dark Souls. And I hate how that game has become a meme for any other game with any degree of difficulty, but to give you an idea I played this on medium difficulty and it still took me 96 hours to beat. Doh!

Started playing this game at my friends place when I was 9, then he didn’t wanna let me play so I got my father to pirate it for me. Couple years passed and I forgot all about it and I rediscovered it on GOG and I bought a copy there, now I bought it on Steam, I even have a physical copy of the game IRL now cause I don’t wanna lose my memorys of this game. Basically the game has a sentimental value to me so my review is biased but basically this is the 1st ever Men of War’s game that got released in 2004. The game was supposed to be a test or a demo, luckily they saw that the project was successful due to the game being technologically and in graphics ahead of it’s time, the game is fantastic cause it’s basically like the old Commandos game where you only have couple of soldiers to defeat the whole German/English army on each map and depending on the 4 campaigns you will fight different enemys such as Soviets, British, Germans and Americans. Also the music is fantastic. The AI is pretty smart also and each mission is with it’s own difficulty like snipers, hidden Anti tank squads in bushes, Tiger tank hiding inside a building. Anyway they sold their game engine to a new company who started spamming Men of war assault sqaud 1/2, and other DLC games but the newest successors that are coming out are Gates of Hell and Soldiers: Arena. These 2 games are being made by the original developers, and if you go check out Soliders: Arena then you’ll see that they are using exact unit copys of the 1st game and the games logo + a little teaser of how they turned the old game units into our todays and modern graphics. My only downside to Soliders: Arena is that it’s gonna be Free 2 Play, I’m not against that but the game might die quickly due to maybe having some Pay 2 Win elements like buyable unit camoflages and unit decks so because of that I’m looking forward to Gates of Hell.

Zombie Army Trilogy
This game, Zombie Army Trilogy, is a game with feature where you get more enemies the more players you have (or friends, for that matter, ofc higher difficulty also means tougher enemies and increased spawn/more numbers of enemies). Most characters would be during the WWI or WWII (I can’t remember), the bonus characters are L4D1 and L4D2 characters where they have 0 voice lines in this game. As for weaps, find it out yourself which one suits you more. I would definitely recommend it since it is a good game to pop the zombies (albeit your enemies are Nazi zombies, you would need to fight the final boss - Hitler in the end but that’s another story).

This standalone release of Zombie Army includes the first two episodes that were add-ons to Sniper Elite 2, as well as a new third episode with new enemies, more interesting level design and better writing, and is overall a superior experience, though the first two are hardly bad, just very straightforward.
Overall, ZAT is not a flashy or unique game, but it offers solid four-player coop third-person shooting, lots of explosives and multi-kill opportunities, and the ability to play as the cast of the Left 4 Dead games if that floats your boat. And, well, you get to shoot zombie Hitler in the face. I’d say that’s worth the asking price.

Call of Duty: World at War
The Call of Duty franchise will never get any better than this. This was CoD at its supreme prime. Its absolute peak. Everything else in the franchise is nothing but a comedown. Plus I have to say, the gore was top notch in this game and it never got any better in the coming games after this one. I always wondered why.

Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army
This game is really fun! I had never tried any of the Sniper Elites before this game and this game actually got me into all of them pretty hard! If you’re like me and enjoy zombie shooters, this game is for you! Here are some pro’s and con’s to top it all off:
Pro’s
-
Even for a 3rd person shooter, the controls are superb and you can tell just by playing the game that the developers really put a lot of thought into it all
-
Guns are fun and accurate for the timeline (no red dot sight like that new COD bullshit)

“Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army was everything I loved about Sniper Elite V2, with an amazingly well-crafted zombie atmosphere. No other zombie game has managed to replicate the dread and imminent doom of the Romero-style zombie”
I’ve never been good at stealth games. I’ve also never been good at driving games - blame it on my Asian heritage.
When I played the original Sniper Elite V2, I loved the World War 2 setting, as well as the simulated realism of Sniper Physics – distance to target, bullet drop, wind, holding your breath to steady your shots. I detested the stealthing segments, throwing rocks and scurrying about. I would try the stealth approach 3-4 times, give up in frustration, and go very loud and turn the game into a shooting gallery as enemies attempt to find me, with my back against a wall and all approaches covered. Ultimately, the original Sniper Elite V2 wasn’t for me – that’s not a knock on my game, simply just a mismatch between my playstyle and game preferences.

Sniper Elite V2
Okay, if your favorite slice of the FPS pie is sniping, you might want to give this a go. I got it for free during a 24 hr Steam giveaway, but after having played it through I’d probably pay at least $10 for it. That’s not much of a recommendation, but read on if you want to know why I take this particular stance.
It’s WW2, and you’re a sniper working for American interests at the end of the war. The storyline is okay, not superb, but passable. Well, mostly–the ending is a bit much, but no spoilers here. You are fighting against German and Russian troops while attempting to keep V2 rocket technology from falling into Communist hands. Stock World War II characters and situations are prevalent with no memorable bad guys. I played through the entire solo campaign in less than 24 hours, and while certain battles and moments have stayed with me, a lot of it is fading into one long blur of FPS glory.

The game is unlike anything else on the market, it is becoming and will become a cult classic just like I predicted when I reviewed this game a few days after the release (the Nazi Zombie expansion packs attest to that) There are only three major negatives about this game that I can think of:
-
It is not as immersive and complex as the first game;
-
The enemy AI could be improved, but its not terrible;
-
The game could be harder.
I’ve been playing this game practically non-stop since it came out.

Wolfpack
As a sub sim enthusiast since 688 attack sub (1989) I can tell you that Wolfpack is the next sub sim you’re going to want to play and will probably continue to play for years to come. This game is truly a profound experience!
To those with some familiarity with this genre you can expect this title to fall on the opposite end of the spectrum that the recent release UBOAT is on. Uboat is a crew management simulation. For perspective, Silent Hunter III would fall somewhere in the middle, as there is time compression and crew management but the player orders their crew to perform the individual functions on the boat.
– Real player with 266.1 hrs in game
First off, if you are looking for single player experience, go back and grab yourself SH5 and The wolves of steel modpack.
That is, in my opinion, the best submarine simulator there is.
That being said, Wolfpack has unique hands on approach with controlling the boat itself, and it really is the best aspect of the whole game, that and the ability to play with other people.
After all the good things (two things) to say about this “sim”, I would NOT recommend the game for anybody. Not on the regular price at the very least. The game is really buggy (graphic glitches, sound bugs of massive forest fire starting on your boat, being able to drive too deep with diesel engines running, AI only caring about the boat that has done the most damage. to mention a few)

Faces of War
Having got most of the “Men of War” series already, I thought I’d start at the beginning - and check this predecessor to “MoW” out first. And yes, I like it.
As long, that is, if I stick to multiplayer or my own created maps. The standard campaign missions are a total pisstake. As is quite often a feature in Russian made games the difficulty level ranges from extremely hard to totally and utterly impossible, so impossible in fact, that it would be easier to try to gobble one’s own cock! (And we all know how impossible THAT is!) What is also common feature in Russian made games is anti-cheat elitism….. this is yet another game that has NO cheat codes AT ALL….. despite it SCREAMING out for them! Even internet prescribed direct editing of the game’s hidden difficulty settings files (hidden in the game.pak file) has made NO difference whatsoever!

Faces of war is essentially a campaign expansion to men of war series but with serveral limitations with primary examples is what you given at the start of the mission is all you get if you lose it you lose. atleast on campaign side unfortunately i was never be able to conenct to multiplayer.
Story is split into 3 factions Germans Allies and Soviets each takes place in the later half of the war soviets push to berlin US portion of the Allies campaign in later stage of normandy and British half carrying out operations in the enemy rear German campaign is a what if scenario about what if germans were able to win the Ardennes offensive without running out of fuel.

Sniper Elite 3
Sniper Elite 3: Afrika is one of my favorite games, and one of the best sniper games ever made. The main strength of SE3 is the sniper killcam but goes way beyond that (like shooting Hitler in the nuts). The graphics and soundtrack are incredible and immersive, and sometimes you just have to take a moment to appreciate the beauty of your surroundings. Hell, just to have a bright sun in a WWII game instead of the old dark and gloomy European setting cliché is already a great thing. The protagonist is a reminiscent of those old WWII action comics and he really resembles Rick O’Connell from The Mummy (which explains The Strange Brigade, but I digress) and the story is straight to the point.

I’m right on the Recommend/Not Recommend border with “Sniper Elite 3.” It’s possible that since I came back to it from Sniper Elite 4 (which I loved), I’m noticing the problems with it more than I would if I had just continued the series from Sniper Elite V2 (which I also loved). I’ll start with the positive, though: the graphics are really good, the voice acting is excellent, and the production values are good, too. It took me about 40 hours to complete the campaign on Sniper Elite difficulty with all objectives (and optional objectives) met and all Collectibles found. It then took me about another 20 hours to get the rest of the Achievements for the base game. So, even at the current list price of about $30, the dollar per hour ratio is good. Of course, getting it on sale would be much better.

Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army 2
Well. Where to begin?
Ah yes.
Jesus Christ.
How this game isn’t branded as ‘Sniper Elite: 5000 for the Achievement’ is beyond me. You want zombies? This game gives you zombies: thousands of zombies. And I’m not talking Left 4 Dead’s hordes that cack-handedly slap you in the face in the hopes of making you feel bad, every single one of the shambling fascists is more than capable of dishing out a bucketload of damage before you’re able to shoot or kick them away. And yes, this version of Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army comes with the ability to KICK. Thank God! A marked improvement over those awkward ‘Oh God, it’s right in front of me and slapping me with a torch, blindly noscope, blindly noscope!’ moments from the previous instalments. I say instalment_s_, since if an enemy was right in front of you in SE:V2, it turned into a frantic mess of you flipping your SMG out and randomly spraying.

EDIT: Boring and Trilogy replaces it.
Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army 2 is a direct sequel to NZA which was a spinoff of Sniper Elite V2. So direct that it’s pretty much same gameplay but on different levels. Came out at the end of 2013, after Rebellion suddenly found out that NZA was a hit. Shoot more zombies from the third person view shooter!
Multiplayer community is kinda there. Most likely you will find no games when you launch coop, which would start your own lobby. And then, only a few minutes later it will fill in fully. So yea, wacky like that.
