Orcs Must Die! 2

Orcs Must Die! 2

Personal rating: 9/10

DLC: Adds a lot to the game without putting any game breaking stuff. Complete Pack is very worth it.

About Orcs Must Die! 2:

It is a fast paced, tower defense game which requires you to be crafty and resourceful from the beginning until the end. But unlike most common defense tower games you actively participate in the battle, you are main defense, your towers, or rather traps, will hinder, soften or thin out the horde, but you’ll still have a lot of heavy lifting to do by yourself.

Bloons TD 5

Bloons TD 5

I have played Bloons Tower Defence since the first one. If you like tower defence games I highly recommend this one. BTD5 is by far the best one out of all of them. For the steam version they took their online one from their website and their mobile version of it and made it into one.

The Specialist Buildings has four upgrades like in mobile vs three like online.

You also have the towers that are from the mobile version.

You have the Monkey Lab.

They are keeping up with the updates very well on this too

It is a fun tower defense game, but the entire series has traditionally been free flash games and you can find most if not all of them still out there if you look.

Be warned, there is constant begging for more real money as they desperately want you to buy micro-transactions for everything. If that annoys you, skip this. If you can ignore the constant begging however, the actual game is fun and you can unlock everything required simply from playing.

Also note: The DLC are just more ways to waste money, they are pure cosmetic.

Is OMD3 a bad Game?

No, I can’t go that far. but it is the 3rth or rather 4rth installment to ROBOT’s most popular franchise. And at that point getting an incredibly mixed bag as a whole package feels very unprofessional. This game could- and should-have been so much more!

Mechanics:

Despite some minor glitches in co-op OMD3 feels very stable and play’s very clean compared to OMD2 which alway’s felt a bit wonkey on some area’s. maybe its even on par with OMD1 in terms of polish. aside from a minimalistic and uninspired visuals for your lifebar and magic meter playing the characters feels solid and satisfying. visual effects, sounds and weapon impact feel great overal. I do find the swords a bit on the light side in terms of impact but 9/10 times you’ll be using a ranged weapon anyway as they are safer to use.

Ways to make once a great game to become great in it’s disappointing third installment:

1. Reduce all current trap cost by 50% / buff all existing trap damage by relevant % to increase trap diversity and viability.

2. Include back all old maps / traps / trinkets / weapons from OMD 1 and 2 into the game.

3. Add War Scenarios & all other maps into Endless Mode.

4. Increase natural mana regeneration rate / decrease weapons & items mana consumption rate.

5. Add character specialty trap to promote specialty builds. E.G Max has an enhanced version of Tar Trap.

Sanctum 2

Sanctum 2

Building on the idea of a FPS game, Sanctum 2 demands the necessity of quick thinking, advanced movement ability, and strategic logic to complete a level. This is even more true when playing with Feats of Strength: factors that make gameplay harder, but result in more XP.

The aesthetics in this game is unbelievably stunning. My laptop can’t run very high graphics, but even with low settings on I was still blown away by the design, feel, and mood Sanctum 2 delivers. The natural world of the Giant Trees and the Swamp reclaiming the destroyed technology planted onto Loek III by humans is something sad, and yet so beautiful at the same time.

So the premise of this game is that humans have established colonies in the skies over an alien planet. They use magical blue balls of light (cores) to convert the gasses present into oxygen and kill the native spores. The problem is that the planet is already occupied by an alien race of highly evolved mushrooms. The mushroom people under the direction of unknown telepathic boss entity whom you never fight create giant organic shafts to the colonies to try to murder them dead.

In the game you will create a maze of towers in an attempt to halt the advance of the mushroom people before they destroy you’re magical blue ball as is typical of a Tower Defense game. you will spend 5, 10 or 15 minutes per level depositing towers that will ultimately only do about thirty percent of the damage necessary to kill the enemy waves. The rest is up to you. You can choose two of a plethora of weapons to aid you in the struggle. The game does not address why a gun held by a five foot two to six foot tall human out damages half dozen tool shed sized tower mounted guns you drop and arguably that means this game isn’t really a TD. There are “perks” you can select to improve you’re characters/towers performance but there’s really nothing that will turn this game into an actual Tower Defense, which is unfortunate.

Lesson Learned - Tower Defense

Lesson Learned - Tower Defense

You should always pay attention in school. Otherwise, you can end up just like Frank. His day was ruined by an unfortunate and quite unexplainable event.

Help Frank travel through history in this unique approach to the Tower Defense genre.

Gather resources, build defenses, and survive waves (in single-player or cooperation) of historically inaccurate enemies, from Cavemen through Roman Legionaries, Medieval Knights, and French Imperial Army to Nazi soldiers. Free your classmates to expand your crew of minions and with their help hopefully, get yourselves out of this predicament.

KEY FEATURES OF LESSON LEARNED

CLASSIC TOWER DEFENSE WAVES IN CO-OP OR SINGLE PLAYER MODE

Where there are towers there must be enemy waves. This is the LAW! Six historically inaccurate periods.

The World of Lesson Learned is full of demonic creatures that are echoes of the great historic warriors and leaders. Your job is to fight your way through human history.

ARSENAL OF TOWERS WITH THEIR OWN UPGRADE TREES

Towers can be upgraded with a specific function in mind. Need fast shooting and slow-down effect? Easy! Build a tower and upgrade it with speed and cold damage in mind. The crafting system in Lesson Learned is based on gathered resources. Every level has different resources available. The balance between gathering, building towers and fighting is the key to survival.

MOVIE INSPIRATIONS

What could come out if we would take a bit of excellence from “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” and mix in some teenager imagination - cool & mad farm animals?

CUSTOMIZABLE MINIONS WITH SPECIAL ABILITIES

Your classmates are scattered throughout the underworld. Your job is to find and rescue them. If you take care of them they will become great assets in your quest to get back home.

HILARIOUS, UNIQUE HAND-DRAWN ENEMIES

Fight cows, frogs, wolves, pigs, and more. Remember, they are as humorous as they are dangerous.

STORY WITH A VERY LIMITED TEXT TO READ :D

Playing through the campaign unravels the mystery of the ancient tome - a mysterious artifact responsible for Frank’s not exactly planned vacation to the underworld.

Sanctum

Sanctum

Personal rating: 8/10

DLC: Worth it. New, more challenging maps. A nice addition to a short core game.

What is Sanctum?

Sanctum is a completely different take on the “Tower Defense” genre, it mixes up First Person Shooter elements in it and it does it well.

About the gameplay:

Here’s the catch: If you have your mind set on “I’ll only upgrade Towers!” or “I’ll just shoot everything!”, you’re in for an embarrassing defeat. You cannot take everything head on here, you need to balance resources to deal with everything coming towards you: enemies that comes in large quantities, tough ones and tricky ones.

Real player with 84.8 hrs in game

Short version: A big surprise. If you like tower defense at all and don’t mind FPS, give it a shot. A great blend of strategy + action.

Long version: Sanctum is great for TD fans that either like or don’t mind some FPS action in their games. The two aspects blend together very well; on lower difficulties, one can pretty easily focus on one over the other and do fine, while on higher difficulties both are needed pretty equally. Additionally, there are towers that help your shots and a gun that helps your towers, ensuring that the two aren’t just separate parts of the same game but actually integrated together.

Sol Survivor

Sol Survivor

I am SUPER pleased that I gave this game another chance, because it is now firmly in my Top 3 All Time tower defense games (and I’ve played over 100, far more if you count war3 maps).

I got this game shortly after it first came out way back in 2011 and a bunch of us played it coop. It was fun but it seemed really generic and sloppily designed. A few dozen hours later I uninstalled it and rarely ever brought it back out because I ignorantly thought the single player was the same as the multiplayer.

I was introduced to Sol Survivor by someone who’d read my review on Heretic and asked if I’d ever played it using the Doomsday engine. He had an extra copy that he gifted me after we spent a couple hours kicking each other’s asses in some Dukematches.

This is my first “real” Tower-Defense game, and it’s a great way to be introduced to the genre. Before Sol Survivor, my only glimpse into this genre were the UMS “Turret Defense” and “Pylon Defense” user-created maps for Battle.net StarCraft matches (classic, mind you, not II).

How good is it? Well, I waited for this game to go on sale. When it did, I purchased one for me and gifted 3 other copies, so we could test the co-op play. The game became an istant hit! I’ve put in almost 65 hours of gameplay in just 5 days! (Thankful for the extended holiday weekend because I need some sleep badly!) I love the 50’s era sci-fi theme. The comic book, pulp fiction, cut-scenes & music are done so well and translated into a 3-dimensional world so nicely! We found the game to be very enjoyable, but also MORE challenging in co-op rather than in solo play. When you have co-op, the beginning funds available for purchasing your support units (a.k.a. “structures”) is automatically divided among the number of players at the begin of each campaign session. Most of the times I felt I was preparing for the invasions bare-boned, but the flip-side is that it made me chose my startup structure(s) more wisely. Thus far, I’ve managed to play all four of the architypes. My favorite is the Spaceman, but I also like the Rocket Scientist! If the game issued just a little more money to start in co-op per each player, I would not complain at all! lol In addition to the Campaign mode, there is also an Invasion mode which I guess is there for those who like waves upon waves of increasingly difficult hordes of robots coming at them. I’ve tried it a few times but never made it past wave 4. You are EXTREMELY limited on space for placing your structures… like, just 20 feet from the rocket you are trying to protect and the robots clearly have an advantage as their mothership makes airstrikes from above at the same time you are dodging deathrays from the advancing alien army! I spent more time waiting to respawn than actually doing any good. Total fail for me! lol So, I stick to campaigning and solo play (which I was surprised to find was much easier to play… up to a certain level). There comes a point where teamplay is essential because of the multiple invasion landing zones there are on a map vs. how many zones you must protect… it gets a bit insane. All-in-all it’s a great tower defense game with a decent theme & music and any repetitiveness is forgiveable (at least, for me) due to the captivating constant action. With every defeat comes a new determination to strategize smarter. I’m not a big fan of strategy games… they make me think too much when all I want to do sometimes is just blow things up! lol But I really like this game! Ok… I’m rambling now… If you have any doubts on whether to get it, then wait for it to go on sale again and start playing solo to get a feel for the game and then join a co-op game in session or get your friends to buy a copy and play a private (invite only) game with them. I think Fortified is definitely worth adding to your game inventory because good co-op games that are family-friendly, are hard to come by these days. =)

FORTIFIED….but lacking some essential ingredients

Now I loves me some “Tower-Defense”. Classic, Actions, FIrst-Person, Third-Person, Tactical, I love them all. So this game was an easy sell. Buuut I quickly realized that I was probably a little above the skill grade for this game. Fortified, if you hadn’t figured it out, is a Third-Person Action Tower Defense Game with multiple characters, a leveling system, and a strong Co-op focus and has the added bonus of being of rocking a 1950’s- 60’s retro Sci-Fi aesthetic which I personally think is a criminally under-utilized design ethos. So you’d think that’d make this game a must have….you’d be wrong. Let me break it down

I’ve spent so many hours on this game and I still keep on coming back to it, I figured I owed it a review. So here goes.

PixelJunk™ Monsters Ultimate is a tower defense game. Um. That’s it. You play a Tikiman defending his offspring from wave after wave of nature monsters by transforming the surrounding trees into weaponized barrels. I couldn’t say that there’s anything particularly special about it as a tower defense game, if only because I don’t play enough tower defense to make sweeping statements about the genre. I guess that’s the thing. To me, this game IS the tower defense genre: it’s an intuitively designed, visually and musically appealing, simple, challenging game. Easy to understand but hard to master. I haven’t beaten all the levels, 70 hours in at the time of this review, but I definitely want to.
