Zeno Clash 2

Zeno Clash 2

I was worried from the first impressions that people on youtube had about this game. Having really enjoyed the first one, I was really excited with a sequel’s potential, and yet, the general opinion was that this was a far less enjoyable game than the first Zeno Clash. Regardless, since I had the game, I decided to try to right after finishing the first.

So, let’s say it has a pretty confusing and “not as exciting as I hoped for” beginning. Even having played the first one, this game throws you into the wolves right from the start in regards to its story, and that sort of continued through the rest of the game… That’s my biggest complain.

I’ve had this game (and the first one) sitting in my library for a while now, the way “bundle fillers” usually do… but I gotta say, these games were a nice little surprise.

Starting by the universe they present: Everything is weird as hell, but it feels original and interesting and if you’re like me, you’ll be hooked instantly and will want to know more. The first game serves as an introduction to the universe by way of a rather limited (in scope) and more personal story about the main character and his “family”… The second game serves as both a continuation of that story as well as a deeper exploration of the world they live in. And it’s all a breath of fresh air among the countless traditional fantasy/sci-fi plots that plague every game these days.

I played through this game in one sitting and found it very enjoyable.

I didn’t try it without a controller but you’d proooobably be okay without one? You control the two “things” with two joysticks, but I can’t remember any part that took extremely precise angles or coordination so wasd/arrow keys are likely adequate. There are two other buttons necessary (shoulder buttons on controller), so thumbs/pinkies would be needed too on keyboard. Definitely recommend controller if at all possible, but you can always try it out and refund it if the controls are annoying.

If you take a brief glance at a video for this you may think it’s all about timing and dexterity but it’s nothing of the sort. This is a puzzler through and through.

You have two rooms: orange on the left, blue on the right, with a jellyfish in each. The two rooms are usually identical, sometimes there is a small difference. Using your left and right controller sticks, you have to move both of your jellyfish to the exit portals at the opposite ends of the rooms. Doorways are guarded by sentinels with vision arcs, and if one of your jellyfish gets caught by an arc he’s zapped back to his starting position.

Cybernetic Meme Machine

Ok, this game is a one for the history books. A full fledged Meta-meme game at this point. So I’m starting with :

Troubleshooting: I didn’t had any problems when I played the game under Windows, several years back. Nor, any problems with the compatibility tool Proton 6.3-8, these days. Under Manjaro (it is an Arch distro btw), I didn’t need any additional launch options, either.

Artificial Ingredients: The game has achievements. And a bit annoying one, too. Beside the story, the class and the weapon related one, there are a lot of random achievements. And I’m still grinding these random achievements up to this day. Maybe, that’s why I stop buying games with achievements.

One of the most esoteric and dense games out there. But one of the most fun due to just how much you can do, and how you can complete the game in any way you want. The community (or the only people that even play this anymore) is pretty based too tbh

Run Of Mydan

Run Of Mydan

A Fly-Around Shooter With An Interesting Art Style.

This is being played on an Oculus Rift, with an i7-8700/16GB RAM/1070Ti, on Single Player/Campaign Mode.

The first time I played this, in early 2018, it was on on-rail shooter with a a well-put together polygonal art-style (to myself, Roman-style influence). It was an okay experience; another rail shooter in a sea of them at the time; played for 30 minutes and walked away. Because of its art direction, I thought I would come back to it one day.

My review is based on the single player campaign.

First of all many of the older reviews state that this is a on rails shooter. This isn’t true of what the game is now. It’s a free flying strategic shooter that is the closest thing we have to a super hero game on steam (think superman or iron man or neo vs agent smith but primarily a shooter). There is also a race like obsticle course level.

I got into vr a few months ago after getting the Valve index system which I love. I’ve been bingeing on steam sales and now own over 200 vr titles, I have also played the top Oculus exclusives. Run of Mydan is definitely in the top ten, if not top five of my favorite vr games. It’s not perfect and needs more content but this is one of the most fun vr experiences I’ve had. Highly recommended.

Tactical Suppression

Tactical Suppression

It has a lot of potential, but it lacks variety. But the true killer of any online shooter is players. Where are they?

Weapons feel effective, variety is lacking, but casual is what they named it. Jump in and fire. If you had a group of friends to play with this could be a really fun game, but with the price tag of $40 US it there should be more to this game.

TLDR: Not worth it right now. For $20 it might be acceptable.

Very good game, but there are some bad places, throwing things when only one by one throwing, is vexed, when mining stone switch to other weapons will have bugs, cause people have been waving arms, overall is quite good play, painting style is very comfortable.

Magical Battle Festa

Magical Battle Festa

Pros:-Graphic is pretty good

-The gameplay is awesome

-There is many variation of build…you wanna go tank / speed / attack etc..

-There is many of characters and you can mix the skill disk and formation to suit your type of build

-Magical Battle Festa Mode will test your build and combo to the limits

-Its extremely fun if you have friends to play with you(i highly recommended it)

-The Story is normal(the good thing about the story is the voice actor…so cute… :v)

Real player with 15.1 hrs in game

Personally, I like the game. Though I do find it a bit too easy. Only a couple of battles so far have taken any real skill. But the story, while kind of cliched, so far is at least kind of fun. I feel like it would be a great multiplayer game as it stands. Since a human player would boost the difficulty considerably.

Besides the easy difficulty, the other issue is that you can get trapped in combos pretty easily. And there’s no way to break out of a combo once you get caught in it. The game does at least have a decent recover. But it would be nice if you could counter, dodge, block, or cancel an opponents move while in a combo. The last three would already be possible if the recovery time was shorter.

Nongunz: Doppelganger Edition

Nongunz: Doppelganger Edition

Nongunz at first just looks like your everyday shooty-platformer-roguelike but… it does very interesting and unique things that change the usual dynamics for these games, e.g. it uses some kind of idle economy that lets you buy stuff before starting a run based on the amount of prisoners you have liberated on previous attempts or it lets you bail out in the middle of a run while keeping the items you’ve found so you can start over with them, encouraging farming…

It gets weirder though and the more you look at it the weirder stuff you are going to find, especially since it’s intentionally very obscure and it takes time to decypher some of the stuff that is going on. I think it’s definitely worth a shot if someone is interested in how this kind of mash-up can affect a pretty known genre like the roguelike and it definitely becomes its own thing with these additions. I enjoyed it a lot.

Nongunz: Doppelganger Edition released recently, and I wanted to post a positive review about it. I dont actually have much more to say other than I feel like this version is more fine tuned than the original in a few different ways. The game seems at least a little bit more accessible, even if this new version does have a bit more bugs than the original release.

The things id like to point out specifically in why I like the game are mostly style choices, sound and visual design seemed dark and unique at the time, and very minimal game systems in play made for a unique experience for this indie title when it first released years ago.
