Guns, Gore and Cannoli 2

Guns, Gore and Cannoli 2

I bought this randomly on my switch several months back, it just looked cool. But my god this game is insane, made with tons of care and passion. It’s a unique experience compared to any other game like it. To me this game is worth full price, but if you are still not sold, if you can pick this up on sale then it’s absolutely 100% worth the price.

If you’re like my friends and I and like to squeeze out every glitch or trick you can out of a game, this is for you. Or, if you just crave some simple dumb fun alone or with friends, then this is the game for you. The devs have put so much care and effort into every little detail and it really shows; every part of the game is the good part of the game.

Guns, Gore and Cannoli 2 is set 15 years later after the first game in 1944. WWII has already started and Vinnie Cannoli is back to take out anyone in his way. The story starts with you captured by the mob looking to get some revenge, but you escape and start your rampage.

There is a lot to like in Guns, Gore and Cannoli 2, from the bizarrely sadistic characters to the impressive variety in enemy design. The controls are easy to get use too. Double jumping, kicking, jump kicks, action rolling and 360 aiming.

SINGLE PLAYER EXPERIENCE

I started playing just a bit to take a break from my uni work and I spent 3 hours in the first sit. BEWARE, it’s a deep game with multiple choices, make sure you check the shop before you spent your ability points so you can buy the right things for yourself and the ship. If you spend your points lately the game will be way more challenging. The game needs more feedback to the player and be more clear at some points with the management of the ship and the ability points but, if you are patient and spend some time with it you will love it.

Has great potential as a coop 2D side scroller mixing both infantry combat and spaceship to spaceship combat. Some of the UI navigation is a bit clunky and takes some getting used to and will hopefully be polished over time.

1993 Space Machine

1993 Space Machine

I confess I purchased this mainly for the nostalgia factor. After completing 1993:SM I can say the tagline “celebrating games like Gradius, R-Type and Life Force” is realistic but tends to underestimate some bullet hell elements that are present in game.

Bullet hell did indeed surface in year 1993 but was not a popular subgenre until the second half of the decade. What we have here, to summarize, is a mostly classic horizontal shooter, with occasional incursions in bullet hell territory - especially in some overcrowded passages where complex bullet geometries and bullet wave patterns tend to show up, challenging you to not only shoot but dodge, too. I’d say the classic/BH ratio is 80/20, but your mileage may vary.

1993 Space Machine is short, simple but very fun 2D side scrolling Shoot Em' Up. The game is easy to pick up and play - You guide your space ship through five stages in your mission to defeat the final boss.

That is not to say the game itself is easy. Stages rapidly increase in difficulty and you will soon find yourself fending off multiple enemies and stage hazards. There are two classes of ships to choose from - A small, nimble but weaker ship or a slower ship that can tank more damage and carry more weapons. Personally I prefered the former, they were just generally better at avoiding enemy projectiles and stage hazards. I would recommend trying both types of ships and seeing which you prefer.

TL;DR: Amazing platformer with great potential and capable devs, playing co-op recommended.

The game is available in the Indie Gala Friday Special Bundle 16 at the time of writing (for another 14 days) and I would strongly recommend buying it.

According to the FAQ in the game hub only two people are working on this game which makes the game so much more impressive. Graphics are great, the gameplay fun and the puzzles interesting and somewhat reminiscent of Portal 2, just, you know, without portals. If you’re an avid fan of the genre you will not have too much problems with most of the puzzles but still some are fairly challenging. If you have opportunity to play the game in co-op use it, it’s implemented well and a lot more fun than singleplayer.

Fun little puzzle platformer with great artwork! You’re commanding two robots with complementing abilities through some kind of futuristic facility. One robot can collect energy from the environment, the other can use that energy to blow stuff up. One can carry and stack boxes to help its heavier companion reach higher platforms.

The puzzles are all fairly straight-forward, and the required platforming skills are pretty moderate. Both won’t give a practiced player much of a challenge. Even the optional collectible orbs are usually so obvious that I didn’t miss a single one on my first play-through. I wish there would have been some more difficult levels. There are plenty of game elements that could have been used to design some fiendish puzzles.

Guns, Gore & Cannoli is a 2D zombie Shoot ‘Em Up indie game. As you might expect, it includes guns, gore and, you guessed it, cannoli. Vinnie, who has a mission in Thugtown, is one of the rare humans still in town. Zombies are all around it, but luckily, he gets a few guns to fight them. And man, was that a fun fight!

You want ups and downs, right? There you go:

Pros:

  • Despite its style, this game actually has a really good story. I don’t want to spoil it, but it exceeded my expectations. The story is evolving, more people are getting involved in the story …

I never played the original, but the style is still quite nostalgic. And who doesn’t like dinosaurs? Old school difficulty, but fortunately it doesn’t cost to feed quarters.

B.ARK

B.ARK

Whether you are a fan of the Shoot em’ up genre or just looking for something to play with your friends on a game night this is a nice game to play!

This game has fast-paced action with varied level design that will keep you playing it until the end, Keep in mind that this is a short but sweet game (Just like the classics such a Gradius) although considering the price tag that’s totally fair.

Although good this game is not perfect, some times the game throws you mandatory dialogue between a stage or before a boss battle and don’t get me wrong I love the characters and the great story they built here but once you want to replay this game or a stage it can become annoying, a skip button for those would be excellent.

☑️Challenging Shoot Em Up.

☑️An emotional story.

☑️Fun game to Co-op / Remote Play

❌Online-Multiplayer

B.ARK is a very colorful and cute throwback to the classic shoot em up games from the golden ages. Games like U.N. Squadron, R-Type and many others that hit’s a special place in a 80s/90s kids heart.

The game comes with a rather unusual twist, there is a solid emotional story about the crew of animals that have been lost in space after their team of scientists detached their space ship after being caught and pulled back down to earth by the aliens that were invading the planet.

METAL SLUG 3

METAL SLUG 3

Metal Slug 3 is one of the most highly regarded entries in a classic franchise that, along with Contra, has pretty much defined the “run and gun” sub-genre of action platformers and shmups.

The Metal Slug series has an emphasis on enemies crowding around (collision damage can’t kill you), conservation of power ups, and a variety of vehicles which appear throughout the game and change the way you move and fight for a limited time.

As for MS3 itself, it’s similar to Contra 3 in that it stands on a middle-ground between early platforming heavy run and gun shooters and the “boss fest” design of later games like Contra Hard Corps and Alien Soldier. The game is constantly switching up how you progress through stages, so it’s quite varied. There are also multiple paths through each stage, each of which plays differently.

OVERALL: 9.5/10

The greatest METAL SLUG, while the first game kept a world war II theme throughout the game the second one added more crazyness to the mix, but the third one is litteral insanity ! A masterpiece of a 2D shooter/platform.

GAMEPLAY: 9.5/10

Get yourself a good pad or an arcade stick, boot the game at normal difficulty with 20 credits max and see how you fare against this challenge ! METAL SLUG 3 is like any other METAL SLUG (but a bit harder than other iterations): fast, precise, brutal and unforgiving. Only projectiles, moving tanks/vehicles can hurt you, this is vastly different from your usual 2D game where touching the sprite of an enemy hurts/kills you, this creates a trully unique gameplay. Hectic and chaotic as can be. Combine that with a whole array of weapons,“slugs” such as submarine, helicopter, jet, camel with laser turret or elephant or ostrich LOL ! And the classic slug of course ! Richest Metal Slug in terms gameplay variables. You have got to be tight and aware at all time, classic yet masterfully executed and with that METAL SLUG flair on top of it !

Sacred Citadel

Sacred Citadel

With Sacred Citadel there’s a lot of fun to be had or at least enough here to distract you.

A pitfall of this game is the intermittent platforming sections. The game figures your level time into the level completion screen. This means you run almost everywhere while navigating screen to screen. I always felt as if I was flying into holes on accident and that it really broke up the flow of the game to slow down and carefully jump across smaller gaps. As someone who quite enjoys platformers this behavior could’ve been cleaned up a bit even though this is mainly a brawler style game.

There is a review says it dont save local co-op, that is untrue. It does save it but in a weird way. i at first i thought it didn’t aswell (because of that uninformed review), but it does I’ll explain how it works. This may confuse you but it is just a strange way of saving. Ok in local co-op you enter lets say you and other players, your name will be your steam name the person that joins you will be player 1 and 3rd person player 2. As you progress through co-op local play your progress is saved to a file, but player 1 & 2 saves to a separate file specific to each person. So now lets say you playing solo sp when you go in you’ll see what ever char you used leveled up to w/e you got in co-op, but the chars player 1 & 2 leveled up will not be leveled up, reason is as I explained above the progress is saved but for each separate name in its own file. So progress does save in local co-op just only way player 1 & 2 levels up and progresses is when they are being used in co-op. In vice versus case what ever char you, your steam name progresses in sp will not be usable for player 1 & 2 because like i said your save file and progress is specific to your name.
