Attack from Planet Smiley

Attack from Planet Smiley

Attack from Planet Smiley is a retro arcade game where the aim of the game is to survive. Survive a horde of angry smiley faces invading your world. The only way to stop them? You. You are equipped with the latest technology and weaponry there is such as lasers, nukes, and even larger lasers, so when you die, it’s all over.

Tag along with a couple friends in the 2-3 Player modes while listening to a mix of three retro-space songs that will get you fired up and ready to burst some happy faces. But, if even one smiley face touches any of you or gets to your side of the battlefield, it’s game over - even one smiley face will wipe out the entire planet. Also, after a while a gigantic boss Smiley will trot along, and even another if you take your time, so don’t try use any small pebbles against these guys - they’ll take a massive beating and come out smiling, cough cough unless you use some of those bigger things, ah yes, nukes. Oh, and they have a gun to shoot you back too, don’t worry though, you can blow up those bullets as well!

Darius Cozmic Collection Arcade

Great port with one glaring omission: the lack of 4:3 resolution support. Running the game in full screen on my 4:3 monitor results in letterboxed 16:9, which causes two significant issues:

  1. Darius Gaiden cannot be played in true fullscreen at its native aspect ratio. You can either play in stretched letterboxed 16:9, or in letterboxed-and-pillarboxed 4:3. No matter what, it won’t fill the screen.

  2. Multi-monitor mode for the games that support it cannot be correctly lined up and scaled, because the “seams” of the screens don’t correspond with the monitor resolutions. Stretching the game past the internal boundaries of the game resolution just results in the image being cropped, even though there is screen space there; said screen space is just black. I presume this is also an issue on multi-monitor 16:9 displays.

EDIT: It’s been almost a week and nothing regarding possible issues is coming, kinda scared they aren’t saying anything about it, not recommending until they at least give words for the issues on the port (That is, if M2 stops reposting Senjin Aleste Fanart in their goddamn Twitter…)

The price is quite excessive if they don’t fix these issues (It’s 2021, these issues shouldn’t be there in the first place, no, “M2 is not experienced with PC, that’s why BASIC stuff happened” is not an excuse).

Not a perfect port, but it’s been less than 2 days since it was released.

Shield Impact

Shield Impact

maybe some more gamemodes would be nice. Like a mission gamemode (kill 10 enemies in 15 seconds for example), or a gamemode were you play as the enemy would be super cool.

But it’s a nice little game

The player character goes invisible after first game played and there is no actual bots, hardly even any pattern to compete with or gameplay. It needs to be fixed..

I did not refund it, as the original idea is kind of great.. !

Shields are always underestimated. But that underestimation only returns stronger with this game.

Not only the game craps out and it is the gamebreaking bug where the character disappears every retry.

It is a try and retry centered game. Not really worth anything like this. Could been really great but always forget to retry.

1993 Space Machine

1993 Space Machine

I confess I purchased this mainly for the nostalgia factor. After completing 1993:SM I can say the tagline “celebrating games like Gradius, R-Type and Life Force” is realistic but tends to underestimate some bullet hell elements that are present in game.

Bullet hell did indeed surface in year 1993 but was not a popular subgenre until the second half of the decade. What we have here, to summarize, is a mostly classic horizontal shooter, with occasional incursions in bullet hell territory - especially in some overcrowded passages where complex bullet geometries and bullet wave patterns tend to show up, challenging you to not only shoot but dodge, too. I’d say the classic/BH ratio is 80/20, but your mileage may vary.

1993 Space Machine is short, simple but very fun 2D side scrolling Shoot Em' Up. The game is easy to pick up and play - You guide your space ship through five stages in your mission to defeat the final boss.

That is not to say the game itself is easy. Stages rapidly increase in difficulty and you will soon find yourself fending off multiple enemies and stage hazards. There are two classes of ships to choose from - A small, nimble but weaker ship or a slower ship that can tank more damage and carry more weapons. Personally I prefered the former, they were just generally better at avoiding enemy projectiles and stage hazards. I would recommend trying both types of ships and seeing which you prefer.

Want to have fun? Then gather a company of friends and turn on the game.

Alias, this is a word clarification game in which at least two two-person teams take part.

Its essence is the explanation in other words of the hidden word. Through associations, synonyms, antonyms or hints, your accomplice must guess as many words as possible in the allotted time.

A good addition is that this game can be played both online and in the same room as friends or family.

Alias is so simple and interesting that it will captivate not only teenagers, but also people of all ages.

Balloon Popping Pigs: Deluxe

Balloon Popping Pigs: Deluxe

Fun little Arcade style game.

Pop as many enemy/bonus balloons as you can without losing your 3 balloons in the process.

You gain more time and more points by popping the balloons.

You can chain pop or pop them individually.

Single and local co-op/versus.(Nice variety of 2 player modes).

You’re one of 15 unlockable pigs.

(You can unlock pigs by collecting coins attached to balloons. It takes 50 coins for each pig. Each unlock is random.)

Each of the 15 pigs have a variation to their backgrounds and balloon sets, as well as a variation of special effects.(I think this changed as of the new update.)

Speedy Golf

Speedy Golf

Speedy Golf is simply a blast! I generally don’t like golf games but this one is different. It’s fast paced, fun, and a bit silly.

I’ve had so many fun nights jumping into this with friends.

It’s one of those games where it’s easy to learn but difficult to become an expert. I’ve really enjoyed learning strategies to improve my online leaderboards.

I’m also a big fan of coop games. Speedy Golf has a Leap Frog mode that adds a really engaging coop mechanic to golfing.

10/10 hands down great game.

Get a group of friends together, and try out Leap Frog mode. It’s a form of scotch doubles, or alternating shots every turn. It’s absolutely hilarious when you fill a room with 8 players split into 4 teams of 2.

This game will entertain both golf and racing fans alike! The golf feels great, and the online setup puts most online racing games to shame. Online leaderboards means you can compare your skill to players all around the world - load up their ghost and race directly against them to improve your time!

ZERO GUNNER 2-

ZERO GUNNER 2-

“Zero Gunner 2-” is an early 2000’s shooter, which holds up well by today’s standards: graphics look great, frame rate, game play and craft maneuverability are smooth, it only takes 20 minutes to beat (even on the hardest settings), and there’s ample continues and adjustable difficulty, which enable even the least skilled player to enjoy the entirety of the game. Unlike games such as ‘Raiden’ or other arcade shooters of their ilk, Zero Gunner has achievements which are challenging, but can all be earned without dedicating your life to their attainment.

This game bring some memories for sure! Dreamcast era was amazing!

This port needs a lot of work: the menu is entirely in japanese but you can actually change it from the menu inside the game. The controller sensitivity is very high so you will need some time to get used to it. For some reason, if you are using a Xbox Controller, it’s mapped like the Switch Controller (which probably means that this game is a direct port from the Switch version) and that bugged my brain a little bit.

Now for the gameplay: You can choose from 3 different helicopters with their own special move and type of shooting, you can collect power ups and also energy items to fill up your special. The big difference here is the “aim point” mechanic, allowing you to control the direction / angle that you are shooting and this is a critical mechanic to fight the bosses in this game.

Super Bit Blaster XL

Super Bit Blaster XL

Updated review

I absolutely loved the original, a great little arcade game with fantastic gameplay and an amazing soundtrack. Super Bit Blaster XL is similar however adds a number of interesting new gameplay mechanics. I initially had issues with the new control scheme which, while I am sure will be the preferred option for newcomers, was incompatible with my muscle memory from the older game. The developer was great and swiftly added a classic control mode to the beta version which works great.

Super Bit Blaster XL is the sequel to Bit Blaster XL , which is a game I thoroughly enjoyed. When I got Super Bit Blaster XL for free because I owned the original Bit Blaster XL , I didn’t know what to expect from this sequel. However, I was thoroughly surprised by what Super Bit Blaster XL has to offer. There are new spaceships, new enemies, and a lot of surprises along the way. Moreover, this game also features a co-op mode, which is another great addition. Overall, I’d highly recommend Super Bit Blaster XL, as it is a great sequel to the original Bit Blaster XL .
