Heliborne Collection
This is a shortened version of a longer review I wrote of the game - Steam didn’t have enough room for all of the gushing praise I have for Heliborne. This was written in August of 2018, but I’ve adjusted it to account for recent updates.
Heliborne is a helicopter action game similar to World of Tanks or World of Warplanes, but with no real micro-transactions (skins can be purchased, both with real money and experience points, but they are purely cosmetic). Players are introduced to a series of NATO (primarily American) and Russian helicopters, beginning with piston-driven craft that handle like flying barges armed with simple machine guns to sleek modern attack choppers with guided missiles. Each chopper handles differently and mastering their unique characteristics is a lot of fun. The flight model is definitely more arcade than sim, but each bird has real heft and momentum in flight. Getting from point A to point B (or, should I say, LZ 1 to LZ 2?) isn’t terribly difficult, but doing it with style? Coming into a hot LZ at speed to drop troops under heavy fire? That takes a little bit of practice. A basic understanding of the physics Grand Theft Auto was able to figure it out fairly quickly.

Take On Helicopters
I had bought the DVD version initially, and “right out of the box”, slow FPS rates were the first thing to attend.
Being a virtual pilot for many years on the MSFS series, it was quite natural to give TOH a shot.
Right from the beginning , FPS rates had to be “treated” using the intuitive menu settings (video).
Knowing all too well the finicky nature of FSX, and it’s frequent CTD’s caused by sliders too much to the right, and to the many checked boxes, this was all too familiar for me.
The results of those major reductions in all of the settings, including clouds effects and desabling anisotropic filtering, were a big improvement. That was obviously predictable, at the cost of some eye candy, and limited visibility.

I own this game quite a while, occasionally taking free flights in Seattle and i must admit - level of detail in envelopment is far beyond for any flight simulator game even today. There is probably thousand of different models for buildings, not only for landmark, but any major building have it’s own model and detailed texturing. Those also all collision enabled, meaning you can crash or land on. Even trees are crashable 3D models. You can even land and get out of your bird and start playing ARMAII in Seattle. Or in normal ARMAII maps - if you own it in Steam.

Bee Simulator
Bee Simulator, a cute game that helps you understand just what a bee goes through, an insect that helps to pollinate so many flowers and plant life so well, better than any other insect out there and how the world around them affects their livelyhood and natural habitat. This game has a decent take on the world of bees with a nice couple of mini games that flesh it out for you.
Just a quick disclaimer: I rarely swear in a review, but this game deserves it. I’ve got a lot of patience for games as I try almost all the games out there, but fuck man, this game got me upset at stages.

The game is mostly minigames. The main story and side quests have variation from the minigames, so it’s not just those. But most of your time in the game will be minigames. I gave this a negative review, but it wasn’t too bad of a “time waster” game.
Races you fly through blue rings to follow/catch another flying insect. There are speed boost pickups to slightly fill your speed boost gauge, and slowdown pickups to avoid. If you miss a ring you lose a failure token, but you must go through the next ring or lose. There are also obstacles throughout the “courses”. The “Easy” difficulty is super easy and short. The “Hard” version is much longer and needs more skill.

Fun little time waster, but has a few obvious problems.
1. Can’t make it full screen, so you get a very small windowed game
2. On exit of the game, it says “exit Battle Copters?” Battle Copters is a free to play game on Android, which makes this feel like a cheap ripoff OR a crappy port. Basically I feel like I wasted 5 bucks for a game that is the size of an Android game on my PC able to handle ultra mode in 4k….
Otherwise, great game, lots of fun!

Aces of the Luftwaffe - Squadron
Not z good Shmup.
-
Long loading times
-
The action is hindered by text overlay at times
-
The zoom in zoom out effect adds nothing to gameplay but interfere with the action
-
The whole squadron thing is more a nuisance than anything else4
-
Grindy, you’ll eventually get all upgrade
The first AotL was better as a simple SHMUP, this one is boring

Very fun game. My only complaint is that sometimes with all of the firepower from you and your squadron as well as boss fire, it can be a bit hard to see where you are sometimes. Overall, the challenge is fair in most cases, the voice acting is entertaining and I appreciate how the story looks at both sides of the conflict with the DLC added. I hope to see more in this series!

Air Missions: HIND
Being a massive Mi-24 fan this was a must for me despite being ‘arcade’. My biggest fear was that it would be like Heleborne but fortunately it’s not that arcady. The controls are simplified vs a real helicopter but they still feel enough like the real thing to make you feel like you’re flying.
The graphics are really nice and the maps well put together, though some of them could be bigger, and it would be nice if there was a map view so you could see your location and have some idea of when you’re going to hit the edge.

First Impressions - This is GREAT!
If you liked cockpit-view semi-simulation flight games like (going way back) Gunship 2000, Commanche, Battlefield 2, etc just buy this, it’s the Heli game you have been waiting for. Even in it’s current alpha state this game has all the base elements you want in a flight game: Great Physics & Graphics, lots of controller options, a variety of views including a fully rendered cockpit (my preferred view) and gunner seat, FLIR and several external views, great Co-Op, PvP and team PvP, Single Skirmish, Campaign Mode and Free Flight. Add to that chunky explosions, rag-doll infantry, custom loadouts, and just the right amount of simulation without being over-the-top realism.

Dog Fight
I recommend this game to anyone that has an interest in shooters like this game. It is very casual, fun, but still requires a bit of skill to play.
there are 4 modes: free for all, team free for all, chase the rabbit, and invasion.
In my opinion invasion mode is the bread and butter of the game. The objective is to fight waves of enemies and survive as long as you can. As you advance higher in waves, the enemy count and difficulty gets higher as well.
The gameplay in my opinion is pretty solid, i use a xbox1 controller, you fly automatically, there is no acceleration or stop button. The other button is to shoot. The skill part comes into play here in that your bullets travel slow, so you have to predict where your enemy might end up at and shoot in that direction. Or here is where the dog fight comes into play and you chase the enemy and shoot them from behind point blank-ish. Both ways are viable.

So rare to see a game game that has single player, LAN, and internet multiplayer. There doesn’t seem to be any lag when playing with friends. Simple and addictive, reminds me of the first time I played asteroid. Multiple people can play from the same keyboard, or xbox 360 controller… it’s guaranteed to fit you like a glove. Simple to learn, impossible to master, just like making love.

JetX Space Edition

A decent arena battler with various game modes to play. For example, you can play shooting modes in a team deathmatch style where you fight to reach the winning score. Races can also be played, competing and also trying to best your time with the addition of a leaderboard. This is nice as it may add a bit of replayability at least. But because not many people play this game, there wouldn’t be much of a leaderboard to compare to anyways. Visuals aren’t bad where it does have some minimalist kind of looks. I think the game does have an emphasis on online pvp because of trhe genre and style of game it is, though i would have to give it a thumbs down because of the dead player base. It’s not too fun by yourself and playing with the AI. Although It is cheap enough to grab, you would need a quite a number of friends to all get their own copy to play together. Because it is a dead game, If there were more people playing online then it would perhaps be worth checking it out.

Dogfight 1942
Great intuitive controls when using a PS4 controller and DS4 Windows. Flight sticks are apparently not supported. I don’t care. I threw mine out after my FSX days.
Finished this game and loved it. Got more worth than the three dollars i paid for it.
Great arcade game and historically accurate.
Voice acting is hilarious. Aussies saying let’s start the barbie for example.
Sure it’s not in 4K HD all round. There’s a glitch on the Enter the Reich mission where it suddenly goes in to hard mode and you can’t see enemies in the sky.

This game is clearly marketed for fans of arcade flight sims, and in that regard, I think it does its job very well. The game play is very familiar for players like me who have played previous combat wings titles (duh). The graphics (save for buildings and bridges) are beautiful, even today. The aircraft are well modeled and behave much like their real world counterparts, besides the rockets. However, there are a few features the game has that don’t make any sense whatsoever or frustrated the hell out of me, and that will be my main topic for this review.

Aeroplanoui
Streamed this game for about an hour, here are my thoughts.
The Phoesion engine makes the game look amazing. The physics are well done and fairly fluid and the ping-pong effect you can go through when you get hit makes for interesting moments. The gameplay is minimalistic and easy to figure out. Has lots of options that open up pre-game so you can adjust it for your particular system. The ladder-style leaderboard gives a competitive feel. Plus it’s a game you can play for a few minutes or several hours if you choose.

The gameplay is fun when you get the hang of the controls, and you can definitely get really good at this. Multiplayer with friends is a lot of fun. There isn’t much to do though, and I don’t think the developer is planning to update the game.
