Streets of Fury EX

Streets of Fury EX

This is the most fun I’ve ever had with a beat ‘em up.

Streets of Fury EX certainly doesn’t have the ambiance of Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara, or the soundtrack of Streets of Rage, or the visuals of Capcom’s Alien vs Predator.

But what the game lacks in artistic and technical prowess, it makes up for with its zany humour, large cast of playable characters, and awesome gameplay depth.

Each character feels very unique, and though a few can feel underpowered, they’re still interesting in their own right. The combo system is super flexible - way more than I ever expected! Chain combos, special moves, dash and jump cancels, juggles, OTGs, and the coming update even adds parries to the mix. Hell we’re still finding new ways to do amazing, super damaging combos!

I sunk a huge amount of time into the original Xbox 360 version of the game, and Streets of Fury is one of my favourite indie games from last gen. I was pretty amped to discover that they were planning on doing a PC version of this, so I’ve been patiently waiting…

Streets of Fury is a throwback to late 80’s - early 90’s arcade style beat-em ups done in the style of games like old-skool Mortal Kombat using digitized sprites. Streets of Fury sports a very competent and deep combo system that is simple and pick-up-and-playable for beginners, while more experienced players can string together ridiculously long combos that look like something out of a high level MvC2 or Skullgirls match…

Okinawa Rush

Yeah, sure, whatever.

Patch 1.3 Please, pick it up on patch 3.1, however right now it’s a great game to gift to someone you wanna piss off;)

1. When building your dojo Items will disappear, only to never again reappear. This will also happen outside of the dojo building BS like when running thru level’s.

2. Requesting special items from the vendor, forget about it those get stuck somewhere between Okinawa & the North Pole.

3. Sometimes you jump thru walls like about 9&3/4 of the time, which would be great if this was a Harry Potter game, however not trying to get to Hogwarts here.

If you like Metal Slug & Martial Arts this game is a ton of fun, beautiful and varied levels, awesome music, cheesy voice acting and impactful combat that lets you do piledrivers on samurai into announcer tables and giant swings on ogres, as well as use your accumulated score to buy alternate colors from the shop, decorations for your dojo shelf and stat boosting amulets.

Tons of difficulty range for both accessibility (it uses a traditional belt system, going from white belt to black belt, then 1-8th dan, then Grandmaster and one special difficulty beyond that) and replayability through the higher difficulties that add more and more enemies. as well as 3 endings for all 3 characters, two brothers who are quite similar but have different key moves, and one girl who has a cool kung fu moveset that’s entirely different from the other two (you can do wing chun chain punch in this game).

Great mechanics, great game, it had some really good pros, but no flaws at all. Character models are just amazing, artwork is stunning and my friend was able to play with me online. 10/10

Ampersat

Ampersat

Ampersat is a shooty, slashy, RPG-y game mixing old-school/retro and modern sensibilities. A blend of influences from Gauntlet and Smash TV to Zelda and a dash of Angband, this is a handcrafted adventure with much appeal to fans of Roguelites. A labor of love from a solo developer, Ampersat distills some favorite childhood gaming experiences into a fresh, fun hybrid that sees you killing a lot of monsters, finding a lot of loot, freeing captured letters (um, what?) and growing from a world-weary warrior mage into a powerful smashing/blasting machine!

Main Features

  • More than 50 handcrafted levels, many with exploration and light puzzles

  • Optional endless procedural area

  • Original gameplay elements based around freeing and capturing letters

  • Flexible character progression with extensive skill tree

  • Hundreds of unique pieces of loot find, buy, sell and augment

  • Upgradeable town hub

  • Tackle stages in the order you choose

  • 50 unique creature types with individual AI, 10 fiendish bosses

  • Drop-in local async co-op (and online using Steam Remote Play Together) - suitable for young players to team up with their parents

You may notice the main character and enemies are ASCII letters - yes, this is an aesthetic throwback to the original Rogue games, and the blending of these with colorful 3D top-down environments was the idea that first spawned Ampersat. Likewise, Commodore 64 SID chip sound effects are used alongside real-world music for a distinctive experience. But just what is an “ampersat?” It’s the leading contender for the official name of the @ symbol, of course!

Overview

Gentlheim has been invaded by Lord Z, who has surrounded the village with 5 extraplanar towers and the dungeons beneath, filled with evil creatures. Even worse, he has stolen language itself from the townspeople! As the warrior mage Ampersat, you must venture deep into the dungeons and high above the land in the treacherous towers, defeat countless minions and restore language to Gentlheim so the townsfolk can communicate properly and help you defeat Lord Z himself.

Gentlheim

Gentlheim has shops to buy and sell goods; an Inn to heal up, level up, and stash gold to retrieve after death; and a deep Well leading to randomly generated procedural levels. There are various structures you can pay to upgrade and, as language returns to the village, townsfolk who may need something… Gentlheim hides a few surprises for the inquisitive gamer and provides a hub area to approach different stages in any order you like, or revisit levels you’ve already beaten.

The Well is where the “roguish” aesthetics are turned up to 11, providing short, sharp, loot-gathering deep delves once you repair it. There’s an old rumor that something very special is buried at the bottom of the well… but no one has ever reached those depths.

Co-op

Ampersat’s async co-op is true drop-in, drop-out at any time. The second player controls a fairy that hovers around Ampersat and also launches attacks. Will you trust them with your best spell? No? They might steal it anyway… While the fairy’s shots aren’t as powerful and contribute to overheating, it has the huge advantage of being invulnerable. The perfect partner… if you can get along.

Gryphon Knight Epic: Definitive Edition:

After having defeated the enormous dragon that destroyed the all the crops and the army of the kingdom of Valiantskies, and of course, having saved the Princess, the leader of a group of eight heroes, Sir Oliver, fell deeply in love with the Princess as they stared into each other’s eyes for the first time. In the meantime, the other party members were already at the defeated Dragon’s Lair, taking possession of his gold, and most importantly, of seven powerful magic weapons! By the time Sir Oliver arrived at the Lair, there was plenty of gold for him to scoop away, along with an amulet, but no more special weapons. Years have passed, and Sir Oliver is now married to the Princess and has a child, but life is now kind of boring, his only outing being with his amazing Gryphon Aquila to gather food for supper. Until one day . . . he comes face to face with his own spectre, which is his total opposite and swears to destroy him, all thanks the Amulet he found years prior in the Dragon’s Lair.

Classic arcade shoot 'em up (shmup) with polished pixel graphics, metroidvania-lite depth, upgrade systems, and a clear megaman influence; rock paper scissors style weapon acquisition between bosses – minus the punishing difficulty.

It's a breath of fresh air in an otherwise saturated roguewhatever/massive metroidvania market. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a lot of roguelite/likes and love metroidvanias, but sometimes you just want a burger, not a six course meal. The game is still challenging; you'll probably die at least a few times even if you're a bullet-hell junky (which this game also is not).

## GraveRun

Early access from 2016 so have to assume this is probably all we get. A bit of a shame really as it has a lot going for it. it's a really fun little twin stick zombie shooter with a bunch of neat mechanics, upgrades and cute pixel graphics. Seems primarily designed for multiplayer/co-op but it's great fun solo too. Unfortunately probably owing to early access the campaign is pretty short, still pretty fun though.

Some games that don't get finished you shrug and move on, some are missed that little bit more, this is one of those that had some real promise to it so it's a shame we didn't get to see a bit more it even now.

Fun game to kill time, easy to play and get addicted to. Pixelated graphics, smooth gameplay, many different combinations of weapons allows you to regulate the difficulty of playing the game, some are stronger and synergize better with certain weapons. Although coop is recommended, buying the game at full price is not so.

## Adventure Bit

ADVENTURE BIT is a solid and fun action platformer. Controls and game play mechanics are solid and intuitive.

There are 6 chapters of increasingly difficult levels to unlock and you can replay any previous unlocked levels.

It's great because it allows you to choose how to play each time. You can start at the easiest chapter of levels and go for high score, or start right at the highest level chapter that was saved last…it's awesome making replay value very high.

The style, sound effects and soundtrack are really good and the game has a real nice pacing to it and it is challenging even if it looks not to be the case as you are playing.

This is a really great example for how simple is not always bad. It doesn't have to look like Uncharted or Cyberpunk to be fun.

*Very fair difficulty

*Nice save / checkpoint system

## Dungeons of the Fallen

in terms of gameplay and mechanics, to me it's a mix of Exiled Kingdoms, Secrets of Grindea, DIn's Curse, 9th Dawn II and Crawlers & Brawlers - albeit arguably shorter than any of these titles in terms of content.

some features:

- exp based leveling.

- multiple skill trees: pick and choose the type of character you wish to be. no class restrictions, but sort of illusion of choice as masteries (separate from skills) pigeonhole options from a viability/efficiency perspective.

- limited slots (4, not including potion slots) on the action bar encouraged wildly different builds between my wife and I based on how we envisioned our characters should play.

*– [Real player with 30.1 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198097921929)*

In general the game was quite good. Decent action gameplay and a good amount of difficulty. The bosses were pretty different and interesting.

Pros

- Difficulty, the game is quite difficult and requires some good strategy.

- There are a number of stat and gear choices which allows you to focus on different types of stats.

- Interesting varied boss fights.

- Controls were good especially after fixing the arrow aiming issue early on.

Neutral

- The game was fairly linear with a few side paths. This isn't bad for some, but I like more open world games.
