Dungeon Crowley

Dungeon Crowley

DO NOT buy this game it appears to be abandoned by the dev. Its a shame because for a long time the dev was active and new dungeons, monsters, and more were released. Issues were resolved, etc. Now since summer of 2020 there hasn’t been an update and I think the last response from the dev was in November of 2020. Before that, the dev was active in the forums and responding to posts. He has disappeared and sadly it appears he has abandoned the game. A real shame as it has such great potential!

[BELOW is my original review when I got the game, but a lot has changed forcing me to change my review and recommendation.]

EDIT: I was contacted by the devs and talked through some troubleshooting. That is some serious customer service right there!

They released a patch that fixed most of the problems I was having, as well as pointing out an issue with AVAST anti-virus (in case anyone else is running it). This is a dedicated team really looking to provide a quality product, and they completely have my support.

This is a great project and I’m excited to see where it goes. And the devs are very closely listening to all of the feedback, which is fantastic!

POSTAL Redux

POSTAL Redux

After waiting for this game to come out since the moment it was announced, I’d say that my opinions about POSTAL Redux are a bit mixed. I like this game, but I wanted to love it. Here are the pros and cons.

Pros:

*Better gameplay than the original, it plays like an actual 3/4 isometric shooter, no-more tank controls.

*Rampage mode is awesome, especially that alternate ending!

*The new remastered OST is amazing, I just wish that all of them were remastered and not just most. Also amazing are the tracks for Rampage mode

4.2.1

A remake of Postal in UE4, supposedly remade from scratch that may be a little too faithful to the original. Along with the good comes some of the same issues the classic had.

Redux comes with multiplayer deathmatch/co-op, the classic campaign along with their expansion levels, and the new single player mode, Rampage, where an actual scoring system comes to play.

The controls in Redux are far more superior to the classic tank controls, but the game’s nice enough to add tank controls anyway if you so wish to play it that way. You can now run and shoot with better precision and it plays more like an actual twin stick shooter with full controller compatibility. The game is much lower in difficulty compared to the classic thanks to the ability to properly run & gun.

Arguably my favorite game going right now! Do you want to revisit old school game play? Check! Want a fun game to play in a Co-Op environment? Check! Want an awesome 80s style soundtrack? Check! How about a gruff and clueless boss to give you missions? Check! The mechanics are super solid, the graphics are perfect for the genre, and the game is challenging and fun! Especially when you’re sitting right next to your twin on the couch and THEY WON’T GO IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION!!!! This is an awesome indie game and it deserves your support. Would you rather spend $65+ on the latest MK title that is then gonna rip you off with a bunch of micro transactions or spend $15 on a full, brand new game, and support indie developers everywhere. I know which choice I made!

Review by Games for Lovers - only GOOD local co-op games!

You want to play something with your significant other?

I am not sure I want to recommend you this game - because it REALLY needs perfect cooperation, otherwise you will fail. And you will fail a lot… so this might be DANGEROUS for not-so-stable relationsships. You have been warned!

After a terrible accident, the body-parts of two dead police officers are stiched together to create ONE police officer. Legs, arms, even the brain… two players control each one side. Only cooperation lets you move, shoot, defuse bombs, drive cars and even SPEAK!

Arizona Sunshine®

Arizona Sunshine®

A bit rough by modern standards but revolutionary for the time, basically invented many conventions of how VR FPS works. Arizona Sunshine walked so that Boneworks could run. I do miss certain niceties like the backpack introduced by Island 359 and as noted, all the physics shit from Boneworks and Alyx. Gun reloading is especially weird and simplified compared to Alyx or, say, Pavlov. But that’s all just nitpicking the mechanics.

The game itself is entertaining. It has some good moments. The writing is nuclear cringe. None of the jokes land except maybe the one about the cow. Maybe that’s intentional characterization? Maybe the protag is just a dad joke kinda guy. He seems self aware about it once when he says he needs to get better jokes, but actually having better jokes would’ve been preferable.

This game is a amazing vr game to play solo or with friends.

The only big downside to this game is that if you want to play with a friend you both have to have the game on the same platform. For example you either both have to have it on steam or oculus store if one friend has it on oculus but you have it on steam you can’t play together which sucks.

Other than that the game is a 8/10 in my option and it can be scary at points in the story where zombies come running at you.

Earthfall

Earthfall

I am overall positive & due to my review being detailed & long, it’s on sections with key things:

  • Fun – More than 12 weapons, technically even more than 20 as even barricades can serve as a weapon if you attach arc grenades/gas cans. Melees, pistols, shotguns, machineguns, snipers, heavy weapons, launchers for grenades/crystals, turrets, a variety of bombs to keep aliens fried & sometimes flying, even tens of meters away :)

Action co-op fps with strategy elements, the game is really funny and alive by itself. Practically more than 12 types of alien enemies as the enrager changes some of them when he appears. The top enemy of the game seems to appear only in Invasion mode, which can be even better than the campaign mode. You have 11 Campaign missions & 5 Invasion Mode ones. They can last between 20 and 90 minutes on your first plays, with invasions being longer. Depending on difficulty and your skills & experience, they can go some shorter, like even 7-15 min. for some campaigns.

scratching head How to begin…

Overall, the game is amazing! It is the combination of juicy picture, 4 player co-op availability and vast weapon selection, that creates a solid game-play experience.

There’s only one huge drawback and I’m naming it now - the game’s duration. 11 maps, 5 per each campaign and 1 level aside of them, can be completed in a matter of hours. However, there’s a lot to try out and kill in those maps!

  1. Weapons: you will find melee and shooting guns (10+ varieties) everywhere, plus most of these can be made at special machinery (printers), where content depends on a map and its difficulty.

seriously? check points before unskippable cut scenes….whyyyy…

Addititionally, some achievements are working only for the host

oh! be ready, sometimes your weapons dissapear and you can’t shoot ))

this is really annoying besides that, game is good

I know this game gets a lot of hate, but I personally love it. I’ve played all the Gears games.

I enjoy fine tuning my skills in games, and Gears 5 is great for that. The experience gain from customs is nice, so you can always progress even if the game inevitably becomes dead.

Playing this with some buddies is so damn fun. The customization with both your characters, markers, weapons, and banners is fantastic. There’s a shit ton.

The ability to edit the game settings is a nice touch, although I do wish it was more fleshed out.

The Walking Dead Onslaught

The Walking Dead Onslaught

Okay, I have officially 100%ed both The Walking Dead VR games, them being ‘Saints and Sinners’ and ‘Onslaught’. This game really does lack creativity and plays everything hella safe, but it’s still incredibly fun to me and I personally believe that the 20 USD that i paid for the game on sale was worth it! I got 15 hours of decent exercise and a good amount of fun, along with a crap ton of details for Walking Dead fans to enjoy and nerd out about.

This Walking Dead game really does seem to take an approach similar to the television show; This game is very action based with little to no substance. What you’re paying for is an arm swinging simulator with a lot of love and attention to detail for fans of the series. Unfortunately, that’s about it! I’d not have paid for this if it was not on sale. But since I did, I have no regrets. I absolutely love getting to hear these characters get voices and to see all of the references to the storylines from the comics and show (but mostly the show).

Real player with 22.0 hrs in game

Obviously ‘Walking Dead Saints & Sinners’ is the superior game in this case, with better graphics, lighting, physics and overall just the freedom the game gives you, this game is the absolute opposite with very linear levels and no choices that will impact the story, the voice actors of Rick and Michonne sound awful to say the least (generic impressions) I do love that they got Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride to actually voice their characters, but it just feels a bit cheap without the other two.
