STAR WARS™ Battlefront (Classic, 2004)

Star Wars Battlefront

The name alone brings back the nostalgic memories;

🔹 The unmistakable bleeping as it zooms into the map,

🔸 Engaging in dogfights around Bespin’s floating platforms,

🔹 Playing the single player Campaign,

🔸 Destroying the Rebel base on Hoth with an AT-AT,

🔹 Storming the beaches of Kashyyyk,

🔸 Playing as a Mute female character for the Rebellion,

🔹 Taking down an AT-AT with the the Harpoon and tow cable,

I like the part where I’m launched into the carbon freezing chamber from a friendly grenade.

I like the part where I see a TIE Fighter fly straight into a wall for no reason.

I like the part where I can repair anything by putting a little oil into it.

I like the part where I die instantly under water because I forgot how to hold my breath.

I like the part where I get the traitor award for stepping on too many friendlies in an AT-AT.

I like the part where the AT-AT just explodes after the tow cable is wrapped around 3 times.

Cossacks: Back to War

Cossacks: Back to War

I still remember when I got the game, it was an accident…

My friend gave me a demo cd with a bunch of games on it and cossacks: back to war was one of em.

I kept play that one demo mission again and again…

I think STILL this is the best strategy game of all time, it amazes me how you can control thousands, big cities and navy fleets.

And it takes hundreds of hours to finish the game because there is so much missions in it and of course an editor too.

And this strategy game is unique because the game mechanics are so different than most of the other strategy games, you dont have to rush for resources, there is always a few mine places around you where you can get the resources from.

12 years ago, I had an interesting 2v2 battle (online PVP).

It lasted 9 hours.

9 FRICKING HOURS.

Had to call in sick just to finish the game.

–– EDITED + CONTINUATION STORY, 10 Sept 2019 —-

So what happened?

Well, in that particular PVP match, my friend and I had lost a large-scale engagement after a mis-timed assault, resulting in me losing most of my infantry, mercenaries, and cavalry.

Sensing the end the match, our opponents gleefully taunted us (in-game text chat) and relentlessly fobbed themselves over an easy victory.

Heroes® of Might & Magic® III - HD Edition

Heroes® of Might & Magic® III - HD Edition

Just get the original and the free 3rd party patch that ups it to HD. Then you can have all the maps, all the expansions and all the 3rd party mods. If you get back into this great game you’ll regret wasting the money on this version. It wouldn’t be so bad if they came out with the expansions already but my understanding this was a slighty rebrushing of the original w/o the expacs available. You can get all the expac maps converted to this edition but many of them also have bugs (i’m guessing when an expac item or monster you run into causes a total crash, which you can go in and delete but then you got to start the map over, not great for multiplayer).

Not worth paying for it.

The achievement list is kind of cool, but who really wants to play 10 maps on every difficulty.

When you can buy H3 Complete on GoG and get the HD Mod instead, why bother just playing Restoration of Erathia.

I wish I never paid for this.

STAR WARS™ Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast™

STAR WARS™ Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast™

Several years ago, when I was a kid, I bought a CD copy of this game as part of the Star Wars: The Best of PC collection. I had fun with it, but I was young and bad at the game, so really all I did was just fool around with the in-game cheats. I saw the game on Steam for cheap and decided to give it a more thorough playthrough this time around. After completing it, I can tell you, with absolute certainty, that this game is fantastic and holds up very well. I’ll break the review up into a few sections to simplify things.

UPDATE After going to join game the other day, I guess the servers are not there any longer?

They ARE on Jk2MV, so, go with that I would say, less hassle with the resolution and some other visual improvements as well. Anyway keep the above in mind reading forward.

Please just buy this now.

You have no idea. It has the best multiplayer ever of anything ever created ever.

Well, most of the community is on Jedi Knight 3 Academy now, but, read on.

Obviously this game earns my “I fucking love this game badge”.

Worms

Worms

There are so many versions of Worms out there but the original is the one with–-

*Less cartoony graphics - pixel art here instead of smooth cartoons.

*Fewer items - you have a good selection of weapons, but the most exotic items are the exploding sheep and banana bomb - no Holy Hand Grenade, Carpet Bomb or jet pack in this version.

*Less polish - sound effects are fuzzy and the menus are a bit unwieldy.

*Worse AI - computer characters never use ropes, spam the teleport awkwardly, get stuck behind cover and never ever miss with ranged weapons.

i love womes and have been playing since i had it on my sega mega drive (similar to this version), while i have not played much of the newer ones - this version is simple at it’s best:

quick to start a game

no long loading times

fun short sharp matches

pleanty of weapons (not as much as later games of course)

pleanty of fun teams including teedies and waterloo (based on abba)

i really love this game - and i know some people might not like using the dosbox emulator - but for me (windows 7) works very nicely, with minimum errors

Deathmatch Classic ─ a love story.

There it was. The last DMC server on earth. With last two players.

They were fighting to win. One versus one. Head to head.

They were winning their own small victories. Their score was close, they were the best.

And after playing for so long they grew attached to each other.

The player one really started to like player two, but he didn’t know how to express his feelings.

After 3 kills in the row, player one decided to write a message in chat: “Hey, you’re a really good player!”

Halo: The Master Chief Collection

Halo: The Master Chief Collection

I’ve played all the various Halos since ~2002, and have 3000+ hours on MCC. Despite all that, I can’t recommend it. Here’s why:

The Good

  • The ports of the games are reasonably solid. The games look great in 4k. Several longstanding H1 graphics bugs have been fixed. MCC is now the best-looking versions of any of the legacy Halos.

  • There is online co-op for all games - something that H1 & H2C historically lacked. However, H2 co-op can be very buggy. The others work well.

  • The achievements are varied, mostly fun, with some good challenging achievements also.

Worth A Buy. HOWEVER…

This is one of the best value purchases you would ever find. MCC is a steal even with no discount.

For 40$ you get 5 masterpieces… and Halo 4.

…MCC is packed with content. So if you’re wondering if it’s worth a buy, the answer is a resounding yes.

That said, as per 343i’s MO, this release has many hiccups that hold it back from being definitively great.

These issues are inconsequential to some, but I’ll list some of them and why I think they matter.

I was dreaming of the entire Halo franchise coming to PC ever since I played CE. Till finally MCC’s PC port was announced in 2019.

Rating: 10/10

This game is an absolute masterpiece, it will forever be S-Tier to me. It’s a competitive game solely based on who has better aim, cutting out the middle man like most games. Though old, the graphics and maps are very stunning and iconic. This game is not for everyone because it’s hard to master the different weapons, a lot of the players are top tier, and the game sadly isn’t very popular anymore, so consider all when buying.

Ricochet

Ricochet

I have achieved the greatest milestone in all of Ricochet. Unlike other players who have only experienced the glory of Ricochet for 5 minutes of their unproductive waste of lives, I have achieved the euphoric life changing exception to human flaws known as Ricochet for more than 1,200 hours.

Ricochet has brought me many gifts, and one of those gifts granted to me is my burned retinas, allowing a new way of peering into this world, for example, you filthy subspecies can look at something and see smooth seams and vertices, but to me, every defined corner has a distinct glow illuminating even the darkest of voids with the same semblance of a low polygonal object. The people around me are no longer just people to me, for every person I see is just a target waiting for the sweet release of a flung Laserdisc to decapitate them, breaking them from their meager existence that have been ignorant to the touch formed by the greatest thing our Creator Lord Gaben has granted to us.

When my wife left me and took full custody of all 26 of my Irish children, I almost lost it. I became suicidal, cutting deep into my wrists and wishing the emotional turmoil would end. I opened up my computer and planned to have one last good time before I ended my pain-stricken and worthless life. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a notification popped up on my desktop, a steam gift, I could only wonder what it was. I finally used my last essence of courage and wonder I had left in my battered and bruised body to open it. Ricochet emerged on my screen. ♥♥♥♥ it, I might as well have some fun on my last day of measly existence. I downloaded and opened the game. A flash of colour, the amazing soundtrack, enjoyment. I came to the epiphany that it had not been a worthless journey. I had rediscovered Jesus. No not Jesus, one who is greater than he, the legendary Gaben. I played it for hours on end. Win after Win. My wife came to her senses and realised the sexy alpha male she was missing out on. She came home, all my children in her hands.
