Sparkle 2

Sparkle 2

I consider myself a pretty hardcore marble popper fan playing games like Tumblebugs, Zuma and Luxor for many years so playing a full HD marble popper was a thrilling thought. While I enjoyed the game, I feel there needs to be more challenge involved and certain things limit players who play too fast.

First and foremost, why would you limit the rate at which new sphere is spawned? It ONLY limits my speed and makes me play slower then I actually would. This is something that was present in Sparkle 1 as well and I was not really a fan of it. Any Marble popper player who plays these games fast will probably hate this about Sparkle.

Short version:

I’m slowly and surely increasing my amount of ball-games.

There’s secrets in this game?

–-

Long(er) version:

This game reminds me of the days when I played Zuma Deluxe, and was bought for that reason. It’s decently difficult at times, and at the moment I’m trying the harder modes of it. I would almost say that this game is even slightly better than Zuma Deluxe, from what my deduction skills tells me so far. Only bigger complaint is the lack of options you can edit. Overall, it is somewhere decent and very nice, more or less what you can expect from a game about balls, and that you can finish it fairly quickly. Is it worth its price? Well, ask yourself how much you’re willing to pay to play with balls. Personally, I enjoy playing with my balls.

I am only partially through the Campaign mode and have not started the “normal” modes as of yet. This is a fun and challenging twist on the Tetris game. The colors and graphics are beautiful.

My favorite part is there are no falling pieces and you can take your time (though there are timed boards). You can choose from two pieces which piece will be played next and you can “store” a piece to be used when you want it. There are varying shapes and sizes to the boards and some have quite different shapes of pieces than the original game.

Bejeweled® 3

Bejeweled® 3

Introduction:

Dazzling explosions of colorful jewels adds another dimension to this delightful and challenging match 3 puzzle game. Never fails to interest anyone.

Gameplay:

Classic: Match 3 or more for the classic game we all know and love. You can create special gems for a more spectacular effect. Matching four creates a “fire” gem, when used in an “L” style creates a “row-line” destroying gem. Combine 5 to create a “hypercube” which destroys all gems on the field of the same kind and color.

I had been playing a lot of Solitaire games on Steam as basically my lazy games. Games I’d play on break or lunch or just when I’m watching YouTube, to have something to do on the side I’d been working towards achievements with. Well after finishing another one of those games, I decided to switch it up and went with Bejeweled 3. A fun and engaging match 3 game. I haven’t played a whole lot of those to know how this is much different from others or how it may be better or worse than some. In fact I think I can safely say now this is the one I’ve played the most.

Holiday Bonus GOLD

Holiday Bonus GOLD

Around 22 hours of no-frills uber-casual Match 3 gaming. You basically clear the board as fast as you can, and it’s very unlikely you will get stuck with no available moves - it only happened to me once. I kind of wish that matches over 3 gave you obvious benefits, because the special tile drops seemed pretty random, and it would have provided incentive to make larger matches. Despite the simple, low pressure game-play, getting into the matching groove was good, and the holiday theme and seasonal music were enjoyable. Extremely wholesome. This is the perfect timekiller for coffee breaks at work, or something to play with your family in the room when you can’t afford to devote intense concentration to gameplay. Looking forward to trying the others in the series.

In this winter game we swap all sorts of Holiday items to play a relaxing Match-3 game. While you play, the music and sound effects will accompany you quiet nicely to ensure that you have a pleasant game play. There are also beautiful backgrounds you can stare at and enjoy.

Overall, there are 55 Regular and 55 Golden Levels, so you can complete the Christmas Tree. You also unlock background gallery as well!

So this game is based on luck. As in you don’t make Match-4+ or Match-5+ for power ups. They just randomly come up. There are also mysterious “?” bags with a random power up upon a mouse click.

I received a free key for this game but I wasn’t expecting much and was blown away by the game.

This is not the usual type of Mahjong. Rather it uses Mahjong tiles to create a puzzle. The player needs to remove tiles in pairs, but only if they are on the same side or next to each other. These are randomly created puzzles that you can choose “solvable” or “random” depending on your style of play. Also there are 3 different sizes of boards from small to large. And different modes of play: Casual (includes hints), Regular (no hints), Time Attack, Mini-Game. There are Leaderboards to encourage you to try to beat your last best time and inch up the boards.

Simple, pleasant and fun, a darn good casual game.

It comes with several modes of play, standard, casual, timed and quick I believe, and all are fun to accomplish.

The game offers night mode, with a dimmer screen, and two sets of pieces for those who would prefer something other than the mah jong symbols.

There are plenty of achievements for those who like them, as well.

Perhaps most notable is the music, seven delightful tunes that float in the background nicely.

No hesitation of giving this one two thumbs up. It’s simple fun, but sometimes that is what I am looking for. This one does that perfectly.

Zuma Deluxe

I have NO idea how I managed to put so many hours into this game. This is a casual, easy to learn, fast-paced game. I consider games like this perfect “thinking” games…not because the game itself takes a lot of thought (it doesn’t) but because you can let your mind go elsewhere while playing. I often clicked this game open when on the phone, listening to music, mulling something over, just had a few minutes, etc. But yet, it is still a fun little game to get serious about if you want to. This is exactly what a casual game should be. Colorful graphics, many different game boards, addictive (I am trying to cut down), and fast-paced.

Oh my, that’s the game that took so many days, and nights, and even some of the work time from me and many of my friends! While it’s not really innovative or something, being a bit upgraded version of the Bejeweled… It was Zuma who made me and so many other people possessed!

You know, I’m not really recommending you the game. If you’re not a fan of casual games like “match 3”, you’ll be quite okay without it. And even if you’re a fan… Maybe you should not try it. Because yes, it is a poison. The S-grade time consumer. You take a level, then one more, then just one more… Each of them isn’t anything really hard, and take about a minute or two… but then, you wake up hours later somewhere on the 8-4 level, and thinking “This one should be the last!”. And maybe you’ll quit right away. But you’ll surely return, and get to the 13th level eventually. And if someday you’ll manage that highest 13th too, that accomplishment will be marked in your head on the same scale, as, like, finishing an annual income statement!

Castles

Castles

Awesome puzle game, with fancy and colorful graphics, fun and addictive. It has a simple gameplay (match-3) but doesn’t get boring with bosses every 10 levels that slightly changes the mechanics and multiple possible combinations (materials or the tools above the blocks). If the 50 level story mode isn’t enough, there is a versus mode if you have a friend or brother/sister to play with, and a survival mode where you can try to break your records.

1-Bit Revival: The Residuals of Null

1-Bit Revival: The Residuals of Null

Technically there are 4 arcade games here so I am going to briefly describe what they are. It has an asteroid game, matching game, a pac-man(ish) arcade, and a platformer. As far as I can tell they are not exact copies when it comes to classics, but they work on the same basic principle. In general, I like how all of the games work, it’s just that achievements would take extremely long time to grind. The thing is, you would have to play them a lot for the difficulty to pick up, it’s just not something that I would spend my time on. Each game seems to get harder upon getting a specific score, and occasionally they introduce new elements such as harder enemies. It actually has a save function so you don’t have to grind achievements in one playthrough, but it only saves in specific spots. You can change the keyboard (default is Z+X+arrow keys) and it can be played on my 360. Frankly, I really like the presentation of the game with its minimalist cutscenes and catchy soundtrack.
