I enjoyed the first chapter and am looking forward to the next episode. The puzzles are logical and I was able to figure them all out without the help of walkthroughs etc. I found the nods to the other adventure games charming but not overbearing. I love the art style and am looking forward to more. All point and click adventure fans should be happy with this one.

SiN Episodes: Emergence

After rushing 24 hours total with this. I´m done. I´ve played all the maps(story i mean), fanmade, Sin 1 Source maps, EVERYTHING. (those all i could find and download). I examined every place in all maps totally. So the fun would not end.

Positive things about this game:

-AI, so much better than in any other source game, enemies can get wounded, and can´t move, just noticed that in last map i played, they kick things at you, shoots exploding barrels (and maybe kick them towards you after that), they can melee better, using head example, they throw your grenades back to you(i think, i´m not sure about this one) and they can get health from healthstations example. So it´s more challangening to fight them.

A wise woman once said “born to stink, forced to smell”. In an age where the games industry was still finding its footing, smaller studios that once battled the giants for a foothold in the mainstream had to resort to workflows and content delivery methods that were less than conventional in an attempt to secure funding. Ritual Entertainment, one such company, found themselves in this precise predicament after their generally unrewarded work on SiN and Counter-Strike left them seeking a new source of income.

Tales of Monkey Island: Complete Season

Tales of Monkey Island: Complete Season

I cannot really say 100% if this game was worth it or not. I’ve played all the other Monkey Islands in the past, and besides Monkey Island 4, I enjoyed all of them.

I will review this game from different points of view:

  1. CHARACTERS: Guybrush never gets boring, he is still able to make you laugh and give some funny commentaries on what is happening to him even if the situation seems hopeless. His wife Elaine is even more annoying than she ever was, and also this time she’s one of the main causes of Guybrush’s trouble. Le Chuck is seen for the first time as a human, and the Vodoo Lady has some nice corpse paint on her face. Even some old acquaintances have found their place in the game. There are a couple of good characters which worked well, like De Singe and Morgan, and the side characters also were well thought and hilarious (like the sailors belonging to De Cava’s troupe). All characters were well thought and well designed.

**(Review for all five chapters)

A game made by new developers and released almost a decade after the previous episode. Many people thought that “Tales of Monkey Island” wouldn’t be an authentic “Monkey Island” experience. Indeed, some things have changed but this game couldn’t be a better fit for the series. Cool 3d aesthetics, fresh cinematic approach and a new fantastic story meet the well known, awesome humor, imaginative puzzles, beloved characters (along with their original voices) and iconic music. “Tales of Monkey Island” not only met the expectations, but it is also one of the best episodes of this thrilling series. What else do you need to join Guybrush to his new adventures?**

King’s Quest

King’s Quest

I absolutely love the original King’s Quest series. I remember playing the originals as a child when they were the cutting edge of computer gaming and was the flagship series of Sierra Games. I even continued to replay the entire series once every couple years. When I found out that they were finally going to make a new King’s Quest, I was both excited and concerned.

The original minds, writers, artists, etc… who had created one of the most treasured computer game series of all time were not going to be involved in the game. On one hand I wanted to love it because it meant new life for this beloved series. On the other hand, I wanted to hate it because I feared it would also fall short of the original series. After playing it, I still have some conflicted feelings about it.

A downward spiral

Episode 1 = Great

Episode 2 = Good

Episode 3 = OK

Episode 4 = Bad

Episode 5 = Awful

First off, let me say that Episode 1 is currently free, so I highly recommend everyone plays that. It’s smart, interesting, and pretty long. I wouldn’t, however, recommend anyone then purchase the following episodes. They’re simply shadows of the first chapter, and it’s simply not worth supporting developers like this.

Allow me to elaborate by breaking all the chapters down.

Chapter 1

Full of different characters, interesting puzzles, and wonderful humour. Although you’re not held by the hand, the game allows you to go off in any direction and either come across any of the 3 above mentioned gems of this game. You may stumble upon a sneaky trader, or perhaps dance with a giant troll. Perhaps you’ll accidentally ruin a romantic meal, or even fight a dragon.

Half-Life 2: Episode One

Half-Life 2: Episode One

The release of this Episode signified a hope of something bigger coming in the near future. We got that with The Orange Box and Episode Two wouldn’t have been possible without the evolution the Half-Life architecture went through in Episode One.

It’s evident that this installment is mainly about Alyx, her emotions, reactions and her relationship with Gordon. In the beginning, she is delighted to find you amidst the rubble. She is given a lot of space to express her anxiety about going back inside the Citadel to delay the reactor’s core’s meltdown and whispers your name at the very end of the Episode.

Half-Life 2: Episode One begine right where Half-Life 2 ended, and continues the story of Dr.Gordon Freeman in City 17, however, this time, the priority remains to escape the city following the events of Half-Life 2.

With updated lighting and AI for deuteragonist Alyx Vance, and expanded usage for the Gravity Gun, Half-Life 2: Episode One continues Half-Life 2’s usage of advanced graphics, physics, music and writing to create a game that is both rich in gameplay, plot, and emotion. Like its predecessor, it uses training techniques to allow for a more fluid experience, and utilizes the game’s physics engine to a full. With excellent performances by its cast, it’s able to greatly explain the story of Gordon and Alyx escaping City 17.

MUSIC

well…it has one great song. i’m not sure if there are more. generally i don’t pay attention to this aspect of games.

STORY

though i enjoy what we got, i would agree with others that it’s barren. not a lot going on here.

more world building would be nice. the elder could have gave some good exposition on the region which haru knows nothing of. instead of just asking a stranger for help and mentioning someone that just happened to be right there. where do these people sleep anyway? too cold to sleep outside.

Plot of the Druid

Plot of the Druid

A disgraced druid apprentice goes on a quest to prevent the world from going crazy by restoring balance to the forces of love, wisdom, and wealth.

A mystical comedy adventure with sarcastic British wit, hand-drawn cartoon art, and an innovative shape-shifting ability for solving puzzles.

Plot of the Druid is a classic-modern point-and-click game that’s reminiscent of Simon the Sorcerer, Discworld, and Harry Potter.

• The player can decide whether to deal with a situation as a human or as a ferocious animal. Well, maybe not that ferocious, but one with a unique skill set.

• Harness the powers of nature in order to solve puzzles. After all, sometimes an earthquake is just what’s needed to get people’s attention.

• Beautiful hand-painted HD artwork in the style of old-school pixel art.

• Dozens of wacky characters, ALL fully voiced.

• Cool references to classic LucasArts and Sierra games.

• Two difficulty levels: Young Apprentice and Master of Disaster. Finish the game to earn a digital certificate with your name on it, signed by the Elder Druids themselves!

• Many MANY smooth 2D animations, including thrilling cutscenes.

• Over an hour of immersive, charming music.

• A hotspot reveal option to avoid pixel hunting.

• Lots of achievements to be gained by exploring the world.

• A journal to help keep you on track.

• Available in English with German, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian and Hebrew translations.

• And the wind cried Mary!

Half-Life 2: Episode Two

Half-Life 2: Episode Two

Half Life 2. What is there to say about such an influential game, again? The physics engine alone still holds up to this day while the story still has people captivated to this day.

The story of Gordon Freeman is continued in a very fun and great way, being woke up by G-Man at the start really puts you back into action. The decision to continue the story 20 years later after the Balck Mesa incident and completing ignoring the fact that most people decided to be bloodthirsty megalomaniacs who murdered both friendly and hostile entities was amazing, the fact that they pick obscure characters to be the main characters of this game is also amazing - I bet nobody remembered Eli or Lamarr even after being told who they were back in Half Life by themselves until they decided to replay Half Life again or by playing through the fanmade remake Black Mesa.

Life is Strange 2

Life is Strange 2

Life is Strange 2

Life is Strange 2 is an episodic, story driven, supernatural-ish game in which your decisions will change the outcome of the story between the two brothers as well as their friends they made on the way.

Story

The main protagonist of Life is Strange 2 is Sean Diaz who tries to get to Mexico with his little brother Daniel Diaz after a tragic event at their home, in which Sean discovered that his little brother has some sort of supernatural abillity. Wanted by the police, the two brothers try their best to strengthen their bond on the way to their father’s hometown Puerto Lobos.

If you’re craving anything even remotely similar to the storytelling in Life is Strange 1 or Before the Storm, you should may as well look elsewhere. If you don’t like social themes in you games – regardless of subtlety or lack thereof – you’re probably wasting your time, too.

Minor plot spoilers for Life is Strange 1 and 2.

On a technical level, LiS 2 far surpasses LiS 1 and even BTS. Environments feel much less static. Dialogue is more fluid. You’ll find yourself wandering around, only to discover little quips and comments from Sean, Daniel, or the other characters minutes later. The animations are spectacular. Lip-syncing is no longer puppet-quality, although that issue was mostly resolved in BTS. You’ve got your standard Dontnod/Deck Nine beautiful environmental shots. While on the topic of visuals, LiS 2 is undoubtedly the most visually diverse Life of Strange game to date. You get to see sleepy small towns blanketed in snow, redwood forests in California, scorched deserts. You even get a small taste of that original LIfe is Strange vibe (you know what I mean if you play it) in Episode 1 that sort of lulls you into a false sense of security. You think for a second that this game will be kind of like the other Life is Strange games. Boy, are you going to be in for a shock.

Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.1 Onikakushi

Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.1 Onikakushi

First, a brief note to the uninitiated:

This is not a pleasant story, whatever the screenshots may have led you to believe. Beneath the veneer of a cheesy, run-of-the-mill school-comedy lies a cruel world of madness, terror, and violence. Major characters die routinely; sometimes on-screen, sometimes off, but never in a peaceful manner. Nonetheless, it is a highly compelling experience, and very rewarding if you can endure to the end of the series. If this intrigues you, feel free to read on, but those looking for nothing more than a stereotypical anime-harem-style rom-com would do well to look elsewhere. Higurashi may resemble that on a superficial level, but this is a series that delights in letting the reader think they know what is going on, even as it brings the façade crumbling down around them.
