I do think Spacefolk City is a good game and worthy of recommending. However, it definitely is not for everyone or a must-experience for VR by any stretch of the imagination. It’s a nicely put together game that will appeal to anyone looking for a casual city building (space-themed) experience. However, if you’re looking for a hard-core city sim, then you will be sorely disappointed here. This game trades in depth for accessibility.

HOW are there no reviews for this game?! It is awesome! I have been waiting a really long time for something like this to come along and it is very well done. It had my vote for VR GOTY.

It is polished, plays great, soundtrack is hilarious and a great compliment to the game, more people should check this out. There aren’t enough VR city builders and the ones there are fall flat. This is an amazing VR game!

REVIEW AND GUIDE

This review will basically criticize bad reviews of this game and hopefully provide insight for those seeking it. I am not affiliated with this game.

I’m thoroughly enjoying this game. It looks to have good replayability. Like every other builder I’ve played once you have built everything there is not as much to do except to keep it going. In other games, for me building up is the most fun and the building-up part of this game is a blast. It is challenging(!) and keeps me on the edge of my seat. I checked guides before playing, but still had things to learn.

In short:

You can barely interact with anything. There is not enough content. Haven’t noticed any update. The game is way too simple. Once you complete the initial tutorial the game has nothing more to offer.

How do I spend most of the game time?

  • The speed of the game is almost always at maximum, yet still have the bored feeling of having to wait for way too long (half an hour?!) for anything to happen.

  • Turning on or off structures to reduce electricity usage.

  • I can even ignore emergencies as I can’t really interact with them and a redundantly built base just survives anything.

InfraSpace

InfraSpace

Lots of reviewers are throwing out comparable games. The first thing that came to mind for me was Anno 2070 but with actual traffic and less frustration. I loved that game, so this is a plus. I also got a huge whiff of Surviving Mars, again with actual traffic and less frustration. I was not a fan of that game, so I’m happy to say I enjoy InfraSpace more. If you liked either game, you’ll very much like InfraSpace.

If you enjoy solving traffic problems or even just watching traffic in Cities Skyline, then this will appeal to you. If you enjoyed solving logistic problems in Shapez.io, this is a must have. If you strive for logistical efficiency and optimization, well that’s most of the game.

At this time, I DO recommend this game, but, there are still lingering issues that I’ve found. See bottom of post for my “rant”.

[EDIT-Seems as though the #48 news corrected the issues I was experiencing. Everything else looks to be “my” problem with the routing and design of the roads]

Things I like:

  • I like having a system that I have to continuously replenish, such as the residential zones.

  • I like how in order to grow the residential, you need different components to create more dense areas

It’s rare for a city builder / logistics game to have a good story, but this one sure does. Through monologue and dialogue options we follow the self-discovery and existential ruminations of the player character, an AI tasked with terraforming Mars. The planet visuals are beautiful. It’s incredible to zoom in and look at the contoured terrain and watch it change as it fills in with water and plant life.

Gameplay is less elaborate than most city builders and the logistics are not even close to the level of complexity of something like a Factorio style game. Managing the interconnected temperature and atmospheric composition is interesting. The end result is a casual, relaxing builder with a memorable story.

===SUMMARY===

This is my favorite game of 2021. I like simulation games as a group, and this is a beautiful installment of this growing genera. I love what simulations teach me, being spoon fed facts off a list. I love that (having played Per Aspera) I know the landscape of Mars better. I know some of the names, sure, but grokking the SCALE, the oddness, sparking my curiosity about Noctis Labyrinthus, just from working on the planet is priceless. I became familiar with Mars in a way that Surviving Mars never did (though I played that a lot too).

A new developer took over in September 2021 and they have trashed the game with bugs; just the base game, I’m not even talking about the disastrous expansion (85% negative reviews!!). 2 months and 4 ‘hot’ fixes later and the game is still so broken that I would prefer a rollback over anything the new developers have done, if only such an option were available.

They have started working on ‘content packs’ now.

I was in the middle of a game, trying for some outstanding achievements when the mandatory updates applied. I would remove this negative review if I had a way to roll back to the previous version.

Abstraction Games is ruining this game. It is my favorite game - even now. Yet, as time progresses, Abstraction keeps introducing more and more bugs into this game - at least for the Linux version. They also seem to just add more features that don’t really contribute to the overall experience.

If Steam would let me roll back to the pre-March 2021 release, I would.

Space Station Tycoon

Space Station Tycoon

After the Recent update of the Raiders and new riftgate. I decided to make a quick review on the understanding of the game… Times for events are as followed. Police scan once year Feb or March, Raiders will come every 5-7 years these you can’t bribe and will require more firepower to get rid of. Pirates can be bribe but can drop cash and items. Aliens will only attack for your Research points so spend wisely and each time you can spend.

Early game this game is a real grind. Hard mode w/ events on. Don’t build anything you can’t afford to loose. The bathing house is one of the highest profitable building 20,000 a month in revenue when full upgrade but cost 15,000 to get your hands on 1. Everytime i try to rush R&G sends a asteroid to destroy it. GAMEOVER. So piece of advice start small and grow small. 2 docks are find early game. Then focus on BILLBOARDS 1 cafe, ___then swap this for a bar. Then you get into research .

Real player with 31.4 hrs in game

a fun, simple game. there is not much combat. and once you start going, you get going. a lot of reviews are complaining of mechanics that are really … not that complicated?

Income - your first priority should be to reduce upgrade costs. don’t build faster than you can afford. Even starting at 20,000, build 3 dock stations and let your money generate and as you can, buy upgrade materials and reduce upkeep costs for each building.

Research - start research with upgrade cost reduction and then move to increased research - you will not have any more problems once you max both of these out

So I really wanted to like this game….. And I do!

I figured Id give this a try not expecting it to be all that since it’s very early access and cheap, boy was I surprised by a well thought out, fun game to play with no crashes or errors. Yes it has some teething issues of course and those are annoying flashing lights when night time comes, the lights seem to flicker a bit. Also, if you send feedback it will not lock the mouse and keyboard to the feedback page, so if you go to edit you will be spinning your world and placing random buildings all over. Other than those 2 things its silky smooth really.

Real player with 80.0 hrs in game

Short version: game has potential, but needs a lot of work.

Long version: It runs at a solid 6 fps once you start getting things set up on the other moons. Increasing or decreasing the graphics settings (which give no indication as to what they actually change) seems to do nothing. There is no way to change keybinds, the sound effects are (probably) just default sounds that come with the Unity engine. Switching views to the other moons is clunky at best, and painful at the aforementioned 6 fps. This feels more like something that should be on a kickstarter as a proof of concept rather than released as even an Early Access game. The music is decent, albeit a bit repetitive. The balancing feels a little off, though that’s to be expected for an early access title.

Space Station Alpha

Space Station Alpha

This game really upsets me. I really like games like this one and Prison Architect but neither are finished games I can just play. Prison Architect (a really great game by the way you should buy it now or when released) crashes and Space Station Alpha is nearly unplayable due to workers getting perpetually stuck unloading.

What happens is sometimes when a shuttle lands it will not be unloadable. Up to 4 of your workers will try to unload it, some freezing right where they are instead of going to the shuttle. At this point the launch pad cannot be deleted and 4 of your workers for the rest of the game must be stuck unloading" nothing. Deleted workers causes new workers to “unloading” the unloadable shuttle. You can try various things like not accepting deliveries, closing your station, waiting a really long time, turning off your launch pad, etc. but none of those will fix your issue.

If this was an early access game, then yes, I’d say go for it… but it isn’t. This game seems unfinished. It’s fun, cheap, but it leaves you expecting something more. The research “tree”, for instance, is very small and quickly completed (no teirs, just a few boxes to click on the screen). The settings menu lacks any controls for sound volume. Instead, it lists a series of screen resolutions which happened to be missing my 1920x1050 screen size. The game also lacks any real documentaiton on how to play after you get your first resident. There are also parts that have no purpose, mainly the stairwell.
