definitely worth the price. Although it looks very similar to Dorfromantik on the surface, it’s actually pretty different for the most part. The art style is unique, and I really like the alternate color schemes feature, although most of the other color schemes look more or less the same, just with the contrast tweaked a bit. There’s still some important features missing like saving the game, and the lack of explanation on what each button on the main menu does is somewhat confusing.

Overall it’s like a more relaxed version of Dorfromantik with a really cool art style. Still a little rough around the edges at the time of writing this, but for one person it’s really impressive.

I really like tile games but this one disappointed me.

Apart from creative mode which doesn’t interest me at all, you have following game modes:

  • normal

  • hard

  • points target

I did the last one for the achievement. The first time I played I had to reach 9000 points. I had to quit the game and wanted to continue today. So, no… My progress was not saved. I had to start a new game.

Luckily, I had to only get 4000 or so today because this game is boring as hell. I haven’t tried hard mode and probably won’t but normal mode is way too easy. I don’t know if rotating matters, with these kind of colors I didn’t really wanted to even pay attention to it.

Time’s Up in Tiny Town

Time’s Up in Tiny Town

Time’s Up in Tiny Town is a fast-paced simulation game, in which you will build a town for a pocket-sized world.

As mayor and founder of Tiny Town, construct buildings, collect food and house as many townsfolk as possible. You will score points on how large your population grows but also on how sustainable your town is at the end of your mandate.

In Tiny Town, the more you build, the more land you acquire. And the faster your population grows, the more time you are afforded.

But be sure to balance-out your production, your population’s needs and your world’s natural resources. Because if your environment collapses, so may your townsfolk know deprivation and famine!

ISLANDERS

ISLANDERS

Islanders Review

This adventure never ends!

Some key points that this game offers:

  1. Procedural Generation; the fun never ends!

  2. Two gameplay modes

  3. Indie Gem 5/5

Gameplay & Controls:

The game is played with your keyboard and mouse; the layout and keys are pretty simplistic. This is in no way whatsoever a bad thing! This is simply a minimalistic game that doesn’t require much to offer you hours of joy.

You start the game on one island, choosing between two build packs. Once chosen it is up to you to determine where to place your buildings. Depending on the position that you build, you will receive a score for each placed building. There are several factors that multiply the score; it can either be increased or receive a loss. It comes down to some strategic thinking.

THE ONE-SENTENCE SUMMARY…

Islanders is a simple yet sophisticated city builder that is both incredibly relaxing and delightfully addictive—and a VERY worthy addition to your game library!

[➕] THE POSITIVES

  • The ART STYLE. The game makes the absolute most of its colors and shapes to provide a minimalistic setting where you can build and grow your idyllic island city. Everything is themed to “fit” together—from the sprawling farmlands to the Tetris-like cities and manufacturing areas—and ultimately results in an island-scape that feels like your own, personal creation!

Sky Tale

Sky Tale

A fun game to pick up and enjoy some nice hours in sandbox mode or try to get the highest points possible. Quite simple but still enjoyable overall.

The achievements are fun and challenging, but the windmill/wheat field one seems to be broken/wrong, as with all 8 wheats placed directly next to water tiles seems to never trigger a progress on the achievement itself.

Some polishing might be required, so that users can actually know how many resources there are on a tile (X rocks, X trees), how many resources are taken by each building (e.g. by hovering over the tile) and how many points you get at the end turn from certain buildings (houses)

sky tale is an islanders -like, so I’ll be making a lot of comparisons to it (you might want to check the link for my review). this one’s on a grid with a bit more to it than plonking down random buildings where they give you the most points. sadly, neither lets you re-visit previous islands without copying files over, and this only keeps the one currently in progress, not all your previous attempts like islanders. I was hoping they wouldn’t copy this aspect as well…

Railroad Ink Challenge

Railroad Ink Challenge

This is my first review, and I have added this up front as I fear I have rambled.

I have only played under 20 games, I have mixed feelings about this version. I have played expansions on Board Game Arena, and I am still trying to sort out what I think advantages and disadvantages are verses what is just different.

Pros:

  1. I like the buildings aspect of the expansion and their functions.

  2. There are a set of goals to meet to provide additional scoring, I have not figured out how to master these.

Addictive, puzzle-like play. This is a good implementation of a good tabletop game (and in fact may be better than the original game, where it was always somewhat problematic to scribe the complex network designs readably).

Yes, there is a BGA version, but this app allows for offline play, supports solo play, and includes the Challenge tokens and special locations on the board, each of which adds a level of beneficial complexity needed for the original game, which was a little too simple.

Hoping they get the supplements out, starting with the original blue/red sets, but it’s already quite good. That’s just improve the replayability.
