I’ve been playing the game for about 14 hours now and while it was fun at start, some things started to annoy me:

  • First off, a dev who claimed (in discord) this game is worthy of a full release, which obviously is not the case).

  • Too many plots are taken by bandit camps and mining plots

  • Boats are buggy and can break sometimes (not allowing you to load resources on it)

  • It needs more optimization, i have a great pc but even for me the game started stuttering (ingame and sound)

  • Bandit camps need balancing. I have them with only kings, which requires a max level training field. By the time i can defeat them i have no more need for such resources you can get from them.

I give it about 6-7/10

Easily a few hours of entertainment (about 24 hours to get all the achievements)

It’s in early access so maybe we can expect future updates.

I would like a way to further invest into buildings to increase production. Having to build 10 of one factory just to support 1 of another was a bit extreme.

There are already a lot of excellent (constructive) reviews here already for the 21 June 2021 Steam release but I’ll add my 2 cents here to talk more about the side elements of the game and offer some advice for potential players who are still sitting on the fence.

What do you get when you combine the macro-management aspects of SimCity 2013, with FTL-like micro-management in factory management and combat, then slap on a UI that’s reminiscent of grand strategy games? You get the absolutely fascinating city builder that is Industries of Titan (IoT for short).

My first impression of the game:

The beginning is a bit confusing. You have different management levels:

1. Production

  • Collect raw materials (initially from ruins, later in mines)

  • Collect artifacts (also from ruins)

  • Produce fuel and electricity

  • manage garbage (a lot)

2. Citizens and workers

  • Buy and house citizens

  • Earn money from citizens watching advertisements

  • convert some citizens into 24/7 workers (who then stop watching ads)

3. Build on two different levels

  • Inside buildings on a square grid (reminiscent of Tetris blocks :D )

Kolo

Build a settlement from the ground up and sustain with nature’s blessings. Produce, trade, prosper. Spread the word to attract other people. You have no lord, so choose your ways of ruling. Educate your folk, but remember that knowledge is a double-edged sword that can turn against you.

Implemented & planned mechanics:

  • Procedural landscapes

  • Resource extraction by foraging / farming / mining

  • Production chains with varied automation level depending on the state of the game

  • Grid-less settlement planning

  • Complex building system where materials of the building determine its parameters

  • Player-made buildings with customizable interiors

  • Unique knowledge system

  • Personal stats affecting productivity of a particular villager and their preferences

  • Health system

  • Lifecycle simulation

  • Market simulation

  • Coinage and banking system

  • Trading with other settlements

  • Settlement policies and different government types

  • Political opposition

  • Guilds

So far I have nothing but positive things to say about this. Lots of people will say it is a Banished copy, and in a way it is. Except with tons of extra features in it and a clearly obvious graphical improvement.

Pros:

-Easy to get the hang of

-User friendly interface and easy access information

-Lots of variety for buildings

-Terrain editing is simple and straightforward allowing for wide customization

-First person view allows you to control, play, and act as one of your villagers including doing their jobs and tasks

I like Banished, I like LiF: Forest Village, for me I play both for different reasons. I don’t see the point of hating on Forest Village by comparing it to Banished. Games are allowed to be similar. And this one tries to be the game I secretly hoped a hypothetical Banished 2 could be.

Personally, this game delivered exactly what I wanted. You have to tend to your tiny growing village with more care than you do in Banished, it’s a little bit more of a challenge and the pace is slower (upgrades, at first, are incredibly resource heavy with a small population mining for resources like stone and ore), but once you’ve had a few crappy starts, you’ll get the hang of it, and there’s no shame in reading a starter guide or two to optimise food production.

Very fun village builder, easy to learn, on my second run I got to the end goal (Monument). Not much random so not a lot of replay value at present. Highly recommended but don’t expect it to keep your interest past one solid day at the present state. I really look forward to new developments in this game! Some specifics:

1. Nice easy to learn mechanics

2. Tutorial needs to teach balancing, in particular (a) how do you tell when to add workers at a building, and (b) how do you know when to build more houses, and © show how to change the number of builders & carriers

Worth the $8, a good game to mindlessly play while listening to music or a podcast. I recommend turning on background play so i can click away and do other stuff while the little guys idle away. I’d like to see a better graphics option and more content as it is updated but you get exactly the kind of game you expect. It’s quaint and relaxing. I’m satisfied.

A classic game, one of the first videogames I played on PC. My friends dismissed it as a “cardboard-cutout” silly RTS, but despite all that, I still love the game.I’ve recently had the pleasant surprise to find it listed on steam, as I misplaced the original CD, and bought it at a slight discount to see if it still runs (windows 10 64bit). Gotta say, I had to fiddle with the resolution and graphics settings a bit, but I got it to work, and it was worth it.

A few ways in which this game differs from other strategy games: left click is only for selection; placing buildings, setting work areas, taking various actions and whatnot require right-clicking. All subjects have their various needs (if played on easy or normal difficulty) that need to be satisfied. Vikings require signposts to be placed around to go to faraway places. This need can be bypassed by scouts(who place the signposts) and military units.

Childhood game, therefore my review might be subjective.

Very good, old school RTS game with colorful graphics, simple rules, many campaigns and no need for DLC’s. There could be more main missions as well as side missions apart from those at Skirmish mode.

Let’s not forget that the game production is dated as of year 2000, the 2015 is the release date on steam, not the actual production time. As of year 2000, the game can be easily compared to old The settlers or old Anno titles.

Although few aspects of the game could be more extended, such as main heroes. Great example here can be Spellforce series or even Warlords Battlecry where the main hero can use spells, have certain attributes as well as the inventory.

Dear God, yes I recommend. I’m fucking obsessed with this game. It dominates my every goddamn thought nowadays. I don’t think I’ve ever been so obsessed with a game before in my life. If you’re reading this, buy the game. Buy the DLC’s. And somehow contain your excitement for Frostpunk 2.

The Good:

  • Special and creative gameplay will make just enough to enjoy the game in Easy and Normal mode but also very very difficult and hardcore in Hard, Extreme, Survival mode.

  • Detailed images, map design make you really feel the “frost” of the game

  • Each map has its own story and gameplay.

  • Nice background music.

The Bad:

  • The gameplay is hard to get used to for newbies (I gave up 3 times because I couldn’t understand the game, but it wasn’t until the 4th time that I felt the fun of it because I believe 11 bit studios can always make a good one).

Jurassic Architect

Jurassic Architect

The earth has been deteriorating more and more for many years. The development of civilization has depleted most of the earth, and the sky no longer lets in as much sun as it used to. The only solution was to combine the forces of the world’s greatest powers and the construction of a portal that would allow humanity to once again move to the times of natural fertility. Unfortunately, not everyone can get there. First of all, it will be necessary to send appropriate groups of people who will build and secure the settlement in order to be able to attract more people to it over time.

When creating our settlement, we must remember to provide it with all the necessary resources. The areas from this era provide not only various rock deposits, but also ideal conditions for renewable energy sources or soil for numerous crops.

It is only up to you what kind of people you want to create a new civilization from. Qualified scientists, soldiers, mechanics, farmers - there is a job for everyone if you provide them with a roof over their heads.

This era provides plenty of essential resources, but the presence of dinosaurs is not always positive. Some of them can be harnessed to work in mining, others can be ridden or placed in arenas to the delight of the inhabitants, but you have to defend yourself against others, constantly strengthening the fortifications of your settlement.

Lead a group of colonizers and create a new civilization in the age of the dinosaurs. The fate of mankind depends only on you!

I stumbled across this recently, and have been enjoying working through the campaign. I give this a thumbs up primarily because of the enthusiastic and helpful developer responses to questions I had, and I feel I got my moneys worth of entertainment value. These guys deserve some more attention for their efforts. It is a game that I “like” but don’t “love”.

Malmyr offers some quite different mechanics to what you would normally expect, though not all of those are necessarily positive things (it is very mouse clicky) and can take some getting used to. Kind of revealing is the lack of a lets play series out there - people tend to bounce off it after a few hours I think. Fundamentally the game is more of a puzzler than a true building game - space is limited and the randomly generated tiles can require some planning before you commit to building. I am hoping to finish the campaign, I am always a sucker for trying to “finish” a game. I haven’t tried the sandbox mode though I may give that a quick shot once I knock off the last two missions, we shall see. I just have too many other games that are begging for my time and this just doesn’t have that magic X factor or depth of strategy tp keep coming back to.

Malmyr is THE game you’ve been waiting for a long time! What a pleasant surprise!

Malmyr is the perfect mix of real-time strategy and puzzle game. Because in Malmyr building your city is not made as easy as in other building games. Instead, you have to ensure an always sufficient flow of raw materials through increasingly complex road systems. but malmyr always remains clear, fair and, above all, relaxing. Relaxation is the perfect word to describe malmyr. You have no time pressure, you can correct mistakes at any time without losing your progress.
