Littlewood

Littlewood

An ultimate chill game to keep your mind at ease, with an added bonus if you are in for countless exploration and adventuring. This game is at the best of both worlds.

Pro(s)

  • Lovely Pixel Art: Overall graphics are simple and awesome

  • Calming and Peaceful: Audio track induces really chill vibes, no stresss

  • Paced and Relaxed Storyline: Straight to the point storyline - The game revolves around you being the hero after defeating the dark wizard and rebuilding your very own town. As day passes in the game, there will be new variants such as new townfolks, town objects and items, depending on what you do in an in-game day. There is no rush into anything and you can take your time to figure things out (playing at a pace you like can essentially prevent grinding xD)

I really enjoyed the beginning of the game and the progression, up until a certain point. I’d still recommend the game, but with some caveats. There are some really nice positives, and most of the negatives have to do with how the game fizzles out towards the end.

Pros:

Design: Cute and simple. I like most of the designs and the art.

Progression: Good feeling of progression at the start. The number of things you can upgrade and work on make the beginning of the game feel nice in terms of making progress on goals.

I’ve enjoyed it so far but there is some room to improve. Can be a bit difficult to figure out at first, but I liked the graphic style and the gameplay. I’m looking forward to the next update to this game. Some feedback:

For some reason, I can’t upgrade my power plant beyond the coal plant, which becomes a problem late game. Also, the housing should be better balanced, because another late game issue is that you’re constantly building Stalinkas. Maybe there could be another type of housing that’s even larger than the Stalinka.

Let’s Build a Zoo

Let’s Build a Zoo

I Can’t Recommend Let’s Build a Zoo (As it is Now), Here’s Why…

If you had asked me at about 40 hours of gameplay I would have said that I recommend this game for everyone, it’s fun, quirky, original and addicting. I enjoy the morale and unlocking aspect, especially. However the longevity of the game is severely lacking because as you progress, all the little issues begin to pile up and the game becomes unplayable.

Issues such as:

  • The notification system is bothersome at best, but mostly annoying. If you have one issue it doesn’t flash “Trash” once and go away, it keeps popping out every 10 seconds, it’s too much, visually.

The fact that this game came out 5 days ago and I already put 21 hours into it (despite going to uni and studying) is probably telling enough of how much I adore this game. Despite many other games from my wishlist (and a huge Animal Crossing DLC) releasing, I was the most hyped to play this and I wasn’t disappointed.

I always wanted a pure zoo game, since playing Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 and always building zoos instead. Unfortunately most zoo tycoon games were rated as too shallow, repetitive, etc. This game fixes that by adding several unique mechanics such as breeding and - once you discover all 10 variations of the same species - crossing them with each other and creating all new types of animals. (They’re pretty much the head of one animal on the body of the other, which is super fun)

Time’s Up in Tiny Town

Time’s Up in Tiny Town

Time’s Up in Tiny Town is a fast-paced simulation game, in which you will build a town for a pocket-sized world.

As mayor and founder of Tiny Town, construct buildings, collect food and house as many townsfolk as possible. You will score points on how large your population grows but also on how sustainable your town is at the end of your mandate.

In Tiny Town, the more you build, the more land you acquire. And the faster your population grows, the more time you are afforded.

But be sure to balance-out your production, your population’s needs and your world’s natural resources. Because if your environment collapses, so may your townsfolk know deprivation and famine!

Realm Grinder

Realm Grinder

I should probably begin by saying I have a weakness for idle games. The allure of always progressing and the goal of that next unlockable is appealing to me. I can’t describe properly why that’s the case. I’ve played many idle games. Clicker heroes, adventure capitalist, soda dungeon, the cookie game, time clickers and more.

Realm Grinder is the best by an absolute mile.

Does it do anything different to the other games listed? Not really, no. You’re still clicking on things to make things happen until you reach a point of allowing the game to be self sufficient and left alone until you want to update it and get bigger numbers. What Realm Grinder does differently to the other games is include a gigantic amount of depth. You’re not simply trying to reach the biggest possible numbers. Instead you are trying to reach goal after goal after goal. And everytime you think you’ve reached the limit, the game adds even more goals.

TLDR: If you like clickers that are more strategic and have lots of complexities to them, this is one for you. If you just like to click and not think about it, maybe give it a pass.

I decided to play this game after reading a negative feedback comment because it accurately described the game. I like my idle clickers that have times when you need to be active and other times when you can just leave it alone for a while. This does describe Realm Grinder.

You start the game with the basics and as you move on more dimensions of the game come into play. Each of these new additions adds to the complexity and forces you to be more strategic with your game play. Now, you can do this all on your own and figure it out by trial and error, or you can read the forums on Kongregate or the website http://musicfamily.org/realm/ which is entirely devoted to the game. There’s a plethora of information out there about all the different stages of the game, what to do when, and how to do it most effectively.

Rise to Ruins

Rise to Ruins

Well I’ve just about hit 450 hours, and so far I have to say I’m enjoying this. Overall its a decent little balance of Tower Defense, City Builder, and Survival Sim. Don’t be fooled by the basic bitpixel appearance, This is a relatively intuitive game with a lot of sprites, particle effects , and pathfinding(literally). The Dev has been pretty active on the forums and in discussion and seems genuinely invested in the success of his game, and in this day and age that alone speaks volumes.

SUMMARY

Rise to Ruins first experience:

Day 1: Wow there’s a lot of stuff I can build!

Day 2: There’s a lot of stuff I need to build!

Day 3: There’s a lot of stuff I wish I had built!

… Day 1 (Again): Okay.. There’s a lot of stuff I need to build!

This review is split into 2 segments, the pros and cons here at the top, followed by a summation. This is an EARLY ACCESS review, please consider that going forward. especially in regard to content depth/width.

I’m not a hardcore city builder. I’m more of a dabbler. This game is good for both. It probably has more longevity for a hardcore player than a dabbler like me. There are a lot of options and one can get as detailed and in-depth as they want.

What I liked:

1. The huge variety of map types and sizes.

2. That there were easy, normal, and hard modes. (I only played easy.)

3. That I could alter the terrain.

4. The many types of road choices.

5. That electricity carried over to connected areas without needing wires, but that I could use wires if I didn’t want to connect sections.

got this from recommendation, and I think it’s great,

i like it, this is unique, and feels different from other city builders.

my ratings /10 :

Music - 7/10

(honestly, the music is intended for relaxing-while-playing, there are some that I like, but it’s feels sleepy)

Graphics - 9/10

(it’s retro, and it’s ain’t prob, the retro graphic style certainly makes your device smile happily, for sure)

Features & Interfaces - 8/10

(the interface is bit confusing at first, so it need to get used to it, but this game has lots of feature you need to try, for xample you can download some city/buildings plugins or mods to add in your region/city, that’s fun)

Rise to the top or crash and burn, will your city survive your incompetence? How high can you build? Watch your hard work crash down fast. I love this game! It’s simple, clever, creative and lots of fun! You have to build a beautiful city as high as you can while balancing your creation on a platform, which is more difficult than you think. The building items have various shapes and sizes so you need a good stacking strategy.

The game has 10 missions in tutorial style that guides you to build the best city in the 2D world. There are 12 scenario’s where you have to “rebuild” existing cities like New York and Paris, that once completed, will make you “lol” at your work of comical art when you stack certain landmarks in the most crazy ways. I managed to place the statue of liberty on top of the Brooklyn Bridge, while half an island sunk, hilarious :D.

I like all sorts of building games, so I was looking forward to getting my hands on this one. Unfortunately, I am rather disappointed.

First of all, there is no grid. It makes the game harder, but not in a challenging way, but in a frustrating way. Building blocks are sometimes transformed into different sort of structure when grouped in four (or more), but if a block is a milimetre off, the grouping does not happen.

Secondly, there is no information on weights of buildings and structures, so it takes as little as a power plant set on the wrong side of the platform to throw everything off balance and ruin the level irreversibly, and there is no undo (demolishing the structure does nothing).

Civlands

Civlands

Civlands is a minimalist hybrid mix combining fan favorite elements from popular RTS titles with classic turn-based gameplay. The result is like none other; command a feudal empire from its start and strive to be the dominant civilization in an ever-changing medieval fantasy world. Will you be the number one civ?

  • Simplistic, retro pixel art. Civlands aims to focus less on high fidelity graphics and rather high fidelity gameplay. Each unit is represented by a single pixel, its only distinguishing mark beings its color. Despite its simplicity, it makes for exceptionally smooth gameplay and management that would not be possible otherwise.

  • Randomly generated maps, procedurally created with care. Each game is entirely unique, some games will offer you a distinct advantage, some a disadvantage, and some will be mediocre. Every game guarantees a new experience from the start each time.

  • Victory more than one way. The objective of each match is to achieve victory, either through military domination, political prowess, economic superiority, or knowledge.

  • AI opponents. Face off against up to 9 other AI civilizations all vying for world domination. Each AI has uniquely generated attributes that will affect their economic, military, and political focus.

  • Fog of War. Play your game with fog of war for increased tactics and rewarded exploration.

  • Diplomacy. Talk to other civilizations through diplomacy and negotiate trade deals, declare war, conspire against other civilizations, and more.

  • An ever changing world. Just as a real world changes, so does Civland’s. Experience spring, summer, fall, and winter seasons which will affect combat, economic production, random events, and the environment.

  • Guard your borders. Spend influence to grow your borders and extend your political power. Stay inside your borders and expand for steady and safe domination or risk building outside its safety and face the dangers the wild has to offer.

  • Control without the headaches. Each unit has built in AI that makes it (somewhat) smart. Developed to avoid unnecessary micromanagement, you have the control to guide and configure when you want so that you don’t have to stress about every unit’s whereabouts at any time.

  • Progress! Upgrade your buildings, research new technologies, and develop your government.

  • Random Events. Experience unique randomly generated events that are based around the context of each game. These events can drastically affect gameplay, providing fantastic bonuses, mini-quests, or negative side effects.

  • Government. Develop and manage your government to prevent civil anarchy. Invest influence to shape your government through a unique, branching tree that will affect your civilization’s combat, economic, and political power.

Civlands is a labor of love created by a team of one. It intends to fully release in mid to late 2020 (that’s right folks, it won’t be a neglected early access money grabbing title!) Future updates after release, such as multiplayer/remote play/splitscreen may be added. Please “follow” for updates on development progress!
