Hexagon World

Hexagon World

No. Just no. Do NOT pull the trigger on Hexagon World.

It’s pretty feature-free. The only controls are to 1) add land; 2) add water; 3) make a set of hexes desert; 4) make a set of hexes snow. That’s it. Nothing else. If you play this for 5 minutes, you’ve done everything you’re ever going to do with it.

Two menus (house and bomb) aren’t even implemented. No way to change the speed. No way to change the sound volume. No way to scroll the map – you can only zoom in and out on the center point. The cool airplanes? Just dots on the screen; you can’t even see what they’re doing unless it’s happening near the screen center. Switching from flat earth to globe view often results in just a black screen.

I saw callmekevin playing this and it looked adorable! I love games like this and definitely wasn’t disappointed. I’m super excited to see how the updates look in the future.

**Just a few notes I thought of while playing in sandbox mode to maybe improve some things. If these have already been mentioned in previous reviews, nvm mee:

-Bathroom signs or something: Maybe a bathroom sign or some kinda bathroom control where employees and guests aren’t all in it together(lol).

-Less Dirt: Less floor traffic dirt maybe. I’ve noticed my cleaning employee is always complaining about high work load but it’s too expensive to hire more people just to sweep the floors all the time. This is kinda rough when you make a huge restaurant because people are constantly walking through the same areas.

This is a cute little game and I can’t wait to see how it evolves. I’ve sunk nearly 8 hours into it since buying it less than 24hrs ago. I love sim games, and this reminds me of Winkeltje: The Little Shop in a way. Below is a not-so-little list of things that I’ve noticed and/or would like to suggest for consideration in the future :)

Staff and Customers:

  • Female staff, as well as more diverse skin tones overall

  • Allow staff to collect more than one dirty plate from tables. PLEASE!

Battle Map Studio

Battle Map Studio

Decent map maker considering the fact that it’s early access. Would love a way to make custom assets. And an option for steam remote play would be amazing as my players have no need to make maps, only play on them. OR make a heavily discounted version of the program that only allows playing.

The UI is garbage as of now, hopefuly it improves over time. Will probably just use it to make custom top down 2d maps until it gets usable. Will rewrite the review when/if i test this thing out a bit more.

I waited 8 minutes for the game to load from it’s start screen, I have Subnautica, Minecraft, Apex Legends, none of them take over 8 minutes to load into the game from their start screen, I left, because after waiting 8 minutes, it still wasn’t loaded, from it’s start screen.

Video Review Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7pW6vU-n_Y

This is more of a neutral recommendation than anything else. Playground VR offers a decently sized city filled with lots of activities to chose from. While this appears good at first, there does seem to be a bit of a quantity over quality issue with these activities as most of them you will grow tired of fairly quickly. That being said though, I did enjoy playing this game for a couple of hours and I do see potential here for something greater. If you are looking for an open world VR game where you can just mess around with and have fun then I think you won’t be too disappointed; but if you are looking for something deeper then this might not be for you.

Perfect for streaming

I love the way Source Byte works. They have set the task to create a fun sandbox for VR, so they did it! I played with friends and everyone had fun watching the clumsy attempts to do something.

This game is perfect for streaming.

If you want to entertain your audience, then this is the best way to do it. There are so many activities that you can do, funny sounds and instruments.

I’m waiting for more games!

Legends of Ellaria

Legends of Ellaria

Note: like most of my reviews, I try to go into as much detail as possible for the sake of giving a person an idea of what to expect. Statements and overall assessment may change with development updates. A summary is provided in the bottom.

This review is written on March 30th, 2020, ahead of the full release.

I first found this game when looking for a new rpg/city building strategy hybrid to play, and while the final product changed drastically from what it was when I first discovered it, I’d say it still sates my hunger for a hybrid rpg/rts genre. the overworld is on a hex grid, with army movement, construction and events happening in real time (with 3 flavors of fast forward and a pause to help you plan out movements when you need a bit more time to think your strategy through). placement of cities is notably important for keeping occasional raiding parties away from your more vulnerable cities, but building close to portals generally allows you to mitigate the risk of a raid if you’re willing to deal with the bandits yourself. It’s not a strategy you should rely on entirely, as you need to be close to one portal to get to another quickly, which sometimes may still be too slow, and thus military units can and should be kept in said cities.

Update 2.0 23/12/2020

I see a lot of negative reviews with people upvoting them and honestly it baffles me when someone reviews a game with barely 2 hours on it. People keep forgetting that this game isn’t even on a true beta stage yet. It’s still very much in development and its come far from when I originally posted this review. Yes they are 3 year in development and yes they still have issues but people keep forgetting the sheer size of the goal the are trying to accomplish here. Great games have taken up to 10 years to complete and I personally feel you shouldn’t judge if you don’t actually put on 10 hours or more and keep in mind just how far they’ve come and how far they still need to go… In only 3 years they’ve managed to create a entirely new perspective on how these types of games could be played. I stand by my positive outlook I wrote about below… Don’t go pi$sing in your pants just because you got fractional lag every now and then with your supercomputer….optimization has always been the last thing to do in any game development….

Robin Hood - Sherwood Builders

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1273100/Builders_of_Greece/

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1442450/Monsters_Domain/

Robin Hood - Sherwood Builders is an action adventure RPG with city-building elements, where we will take the role of a classic hero, who fights against the tyranny and injustice that haunts Sherwood. As Robin, we’ll fight, hunt, craft, steal, and of course - help the local community grow in spite of the Sheriff of Nottingham’s regime – all within an open world environment that can be freely explored.

Robin Hood is a famous hero of medieval English folk tales, believed to have traversed the forests of Sherwood with his companions a long time ago. In the game we’re going to meet those legendary characters as well – such as Lady Marian, Little John, Friar Tuck, Allen a Dale, and Will Scarlet.

The main task is to help a young, growing community of refugees and rebels improve and expand itself. Starting with what could be described as a small forest settlement, with a bit of care, luck and work, it can end up as a town full of people. Recruit local villagers, rebels on the run from the law, and even the citizens and guards of Nottingham themselves.

We will start our adventure with building a forest camp, which we will be able to develop with the arrival of new residents. We will be responsible for choosing the right place in Sherwood Forest to build the village.

Another important part of taking care of the settlement will be to manage the community members’ professions and tasks and training them to become craftsmen, hunters, or guards, and to manage the settlement’s resources, either gathering them yourself or stealing them from convoys and aristocratic estates.

The main goal is to build a community large and meaningful enough to trigger a revolution in the ranks of Nottingham, ending the tyranny once and for all.

Can Robin Hood and his company make it and put an end to injustice? Their fate is up to you!
