One More Island

One More Island

The Queen of the Old World calls upon you! As Her Majesty’s domain expands, we require a capable administrator to guide Her latest colonies to prosperity. We will provide you with ships, colonists, and other tools necessary to tame these wild, virgin lands, and turn them into a prosperous colonial enterprise, all under the Queen’s watchful eye.

Naturally, the Crown will expect you to share the bounty of these new lands, pay your taxes on time, and continue expanding the boundaries of Her Majesty’s colonial possessions. Obedience may earn you rewards, but refusing to pay your dues or worse, declaring independence, will have dire consequences.

So, governor: Are you ready to colonize One More Island?

You are called upon to explore the frontiers of Her Majesty’s colonial empire, claim territory, then exploit it to its fullest to gain riches for the throne!

  • Set sail for the New World to plant Her flag and establish a new colony - as well as ensuring it thrives.

  • Each exploration is never the same, thanks to a world map generated dynamically from a combination of hand-crafted map elements.

  • Customize the challenge to your tastes, adjusting island size, land fertility, amount of natural resources and more, to make it as easy or as hard as desired.

As governor, you’re in charge. Plan out the colony, take care of your residents, and turn a small outpost into an overseas metropolis bustling with commerce!

  • Construct the buildings you want: The freeform building designer allows fine-tuning workshop placement and colonist’s paths to optimize the holy colony plan.

  • Look after the colonists' needs. Happy colonists work harder and faster, growing your, err, Her Majesty’s colonial empire.

  • Harness this legendary colony and these dedicated colonists to create production chains, producing necessary goods on the spot and growing the community.

There’s always One More Island to conquer. Explore the world, find new spots to establish more colonies, then tie them together into a self-sufficient network: An empire of your own making.

  • Build a new fleet to explore the archipelago, claim new islands for your domain, then link them together with overseas trade routes.

  • Optimize your production chains and increase their complexity to create entire industries independent of the Old World.

  • Research new ways to develop your fledgling colony into a New World superpower. Each civilization tier brings with it new challenges, new requirements - and new opportunities.

The Queen wants her share of New World’s bounty. Taxes are expected, as is ordained. But there’s always another option, one that your colonists might look upon favorably.

  • Manage your reputation at the royal court. Pay your taxes on time and meet their expectations or…

  • Do you dare to commit the unthinkable? Do you dare to disobey the monarch?

  • Do you dare try to form a new nation, breaking free of Old World tyranny?

Well? Where do you stand?

House Builder: First Job

House Builder: First Job

I really think this game has great potential! I loved playing the first two jobs and can’t wait to see what else there will be.

The building crafting mechanics unfortunately got rather tiring over time, as I constantly yeeted the raw tiles for the roofing when I tried to get them into the oven, so that I needed to make new ones. Also, the distances are hard to guess when using the hand tool/drag-and-drop, which for me made it difficult at times to get the clay into the form.

I would like to be able to collect the raw materials as well (not just the finished ones) and clicking them into their crafting destination, instead of having to drag-and-drop them, risking to lose them whenever I move aound too quickly.

…is a crafting simulator. Build a shelter in the northern ice lands or the African jungle, using basic material from your surroundings.

⚙ Game Description & Mechanics ⚙

Two locations are made available for you to choose from, although the game implied that you start with Greenland and then move to Middle-Africa. Both offer a very different building style: the igloo requires that you to keep a warm fire burning while gathering ice blocks cut from the ground, and a mudbrick house made requiring rocks for the foundation, bamboo sticks and vines for the structure and clay and water for the walls and roof. Both locations have a dangerous beast lurking around (a bear in the first, a lion in the second) from which you need to keep your distance of.

Well… it’s something.

The game only has 5 “game modes” which consist of something non-sensical and boring, there isn’t really anything “relaxing” or satisfying about them. The music cannot be adjusted and is pretty loud. Honestly it just feels like a school project from 2005 done by two students that just served to be presented infront of a class and then forgotten. Definetly not worth the money, I got it from a steam gift

Dwarrows

Dwarrows

I first found out about Dwarrows by watching YouTube Lets Plays before it was even released. I bought it as soon as it came out (payed full price) and, so far, I am enjoying it just as much as I thought I would. If you play games like My Time in Portia or Ni no Kuni II, then I believe you will love Dwarrows. So what do I like about the game?

Likes

I really enjoy the slightly simplistic styling of the game. It isn’t hyper realistic, but more of a cartoony (is that a word?) feeling, that adds it’s own charm to the game play.

Oh my. Dwarrows is a little masterpiece.

Here are some notes on happiness:

  • Visual: The wood elves reminded me of Sesame Street characters – a bit of Bert and Ernie and Grover.

  • Audio: Enjoyable. :) I liked to run into a group of bluebirds just to hear them tweeting as they scattered. I liked the piped-in suspenseful mini-melodies when I was trying to solve a puzzle.

  • Travel: This game handled fast travel really well. Having three characters to port around could have been a hassle, but instead so many workarounds were provided: teleport scrolls in inventory (with options to transport one character or all three), teleport fountains at puzzles (to bring all three to help), and teleport stone rings (for one or three). Plus it was nice to have the three characters spread around the map sometimes – I often left Gloia in town to build, while the other two ran around to explore. Really well done.

Eden: New Dawn

Eden: New Dawn

I would recommend you wait for major patches/updates to release for the game seems to be at an odd state where the servers lag with your position quite a bit and the only thing you can do is build in creative.

Not much really to it yet but I can’t wait to see if they add things like paint explosive and portals like in World Builder, I still play that game its so nostalgic to me.

Also to send messages in chat longer than one word you cant space it out you need to use underscores.

Needless to say glad I got to see its current build since it just released in Early Access and that I get to support the devs with my purchase.

This review represents the game’s state on September 29, 2021. If lots of time time has passed since this review, then the game may have received major updates and this review may no longer be relevant.

I purchased Eden World Builder many years ago in the earlier days of the iPhone/iPod Touch and it was one of my favorite mobile games of that era (the game still runs on modern iOS hardware btw!). Some of the updates later in its life seemed interesting, but eventually it ended up being an abandoned project. So of course when I heard they were working on a new Eden game, I had to wishlist it on Steam and buy it on launch. From viewing this page I had already figured this wasn’t exactly going to be a Eden World Builder type game, but I always wanted a proper survival mode so why not.

Kingdom Builders

Kingdom Builders is a brand-new casual, light-hearted city builder with a kid-friendly tone and great visuals. The game revolves around an outcast prince who is trying his best to set up a safe city for his people.

Throughout the review, I’ll be bearing in mind that this is an early access title with limited features currently in place, but from where I stand the game base is good.

Barely any content, no real goals or way to beat the game, repetitive, and the challenge of surviving can be eliminated entirely. The only good things about this game are its art style and sound design. Wait until one year or so until it is out of early access to purchase this game. In my opinion this is a little more than a tech demo.

As of August 6, 2021 here are the pros and cons of this game:

Pros

-Cute art style and excellent sound design and subtle background music.

-Few but interesting enemy types with unique attack patterns.
