Hell Architect

Hell Architect

Hells Architect is my first ever review, and one of the reasons why I decided to leave a review for this game is because I am surprised by the mixed reviews the game is currently at (day 2 of release). In my opinion, the producer and developer of Hells Architect launched this game correctly; they ran a successful campaign by keeping the customer in the loop during development, they released a playable demo, they sought feedback from testers, are continuing to listen to feedback, and perhaps most importantly – they delayed launch by several months until they had a viable product ready to go that they were proud of!

I feel awful posting this review, but I’m hoping that the dev team will fix the issues that I have with the game over time. It’s not that I don’t recommend the game, I just don’t recommend it right now and at the price I paid for it (more than $20 in case someone is reading this later after a price change). I’ve completed every stage with the exception of the final mission as of this writing (and I intend to complete that stage), as well as played some of the sandbox mode. My actual playtime is a bit lower than what the review will have listed, since I had to leave the game open while I wasn’t actively playing it (more on that below).

Kingdoms Reborn

I played this way too much. It was really easy to get in to, but had a LOT of depth. There’s definitely room for massive improvements around trade & AI players, but that alone isn’t big enough of an issue for me to stop playing. I found enough to keep me happy and occupied.

Kingdoms Reborn is a new take on the generic medieval city builder with a card system where you buy cards to place buildings, and a progression system to boot. This game is still in beta but once it releases don’t be supprised to see that 59 H go up. Since this is beta though I still can’t give it a rating, check it out though, if you like the genre, you (probably) won’t be disapointed

Very fun village builder, easy to learn, on my second run I got to the end goal (Monument). Not much random so not a lot of replay value at present. Highly recommended but don’t expect it to keep your interest past one solid day at the present state. I really look forward to new developments in this game! Some specifics:

1. Nice easy to learn mechanics

2. Tutorial needs to teach balancing, in particular (a) how do you tell when to add workers at a building, and (b) how do you know when to build more houses, and © show how to change the number of builders & carriers

Worth the $8, a good game to mindlessly play while listening to music or a podcast. I recommend turning on background play so i can click away and do other stuff while the little guys idle away. I’d like to see a better graphics option and more content as it is updated but you get exactly the kind of game you expect. It’s quaint and relaxing. I’m satisfied.

The Spatials: Galactology

### Too Long; Long-Story-Short, Version

I have to say; After holding-off from trying this game; for sooo long now… Im glad I finally did. Even in its current state of: - EA / Alpha;.. This game is amazingly well put-together & very immersive & playable & enjoyable so far. For everything that it says it is & does & wants to be; It really does deliver these things very well.

Coupled with, one of the most productive, active & interactive, community-minded / oriented Devs, Ive seen here on steam; which gives GREAT promise & hope; & firm reason to believe that this game, will only continue to advance & grow, in positive & unique directions & become even better into the near future, as it comes to its final completion. Not to mention, the current state of the game itself, also giving proper & solid testaments to those statements, as well.

The Spatials: Galactology is a real time base simulator. You start with a small crew of ‘redshirts’ and a dream for a profitable space economy. Its current build is in the alpha stage which means that the tutorials are a little clunky and hard to follow. However, this is a real gem of an experience. It reminds me of a less frustrating and less boring version of Evil Genius. Your base is constantly doing stuff, a little space ant farm, while you can travel to various planets for resources.

The planets are procedurally created and they don’t have a huge variety at this junction, but the maps are pretty and serve the purpose of giving your troops something to explore and capture. Each planet has various resources, such as metals from the lava worlds, which must be extracted with a universal building (the old version had more variety but I don’t think it needs it.) As your tech tree increases you can put in recruitment centers and tv stations to run ads for your station.

In Urbek, you will be able to build a city of your own design! Manage its natural resources, improve the quality of life of the population, and build its neighbourhoods in your own way.

Neighbourhoods

Breathe life into your city by building different neighbourhoods. Do you want a bohemian neighbourhood? Build bars, parks and libraries, but keep a low population density nearby. Do you want a bourgeois neighbourhood? You need parks and luxury shops.

Manage

There is no money in Urbek. Instead, you will have to build everything with your own resources, such as food, coal, or skilled work. There are more than 30 different resources to manage! Manage your natural resources well, so that they do not run out before they can be replaced. How will you choose to produce the energy for your inhabitants and industries?

Educate

Education is fundamental! By producing enough qualified work and scientific work, you will be able to build more advanced buildings.

Observe

Move around at street level in order to get a more intimate sense of the city you are creating. See and feel the differences between neighborhoods the way your city’s residents do!

Organic growth

The growth of your city will be organic. Some constructions will appear according to the surrounding conditions. For example, buildings with more than two floors will appear in densely populated areas and with basic services.

You can place other buildings by yourself, but they need some conditions. For instance, the local market needs to be close to the farms. The university should have some high schools nearby, which, in turn, require nearby schools.

When it comes to designing your city, you have a variety of viable options. There are no buildings that are superior to others. Every decision will have its pros and cons. Bourgeois houses consume more food and need resources that cost more to produce, but will improve the quality of life of the residents there. On the other hand, improving the productivity of industries will produce more resources, but will diminish the quality of life for residents living in the area.

20 Minute Metropolis - The Action City Builder

20 Minute Metropolis - The Action City Builder

I’ll confess I’m biased because a friend that works for me did some of the artwork on this and I’ve long been a fan of Dejobaan.

This is a fun, bite-sized strategy game and less than $3. It’s hard to go wrong. I can’t think of any time I’ve actually regretted spending $3, but this was enjoying to play, and I will keep trying to get my name on the top page.

I would love to see a couple quality of life improvements: namely drag and drop roads, hotkeys or an expanded toolbar so I don’t have to fuss with the selection menus. Daily leaderboards would be nice too, so I have a better chance at the top ten.

Real player with 4.8 hrs in game

Super fun and hectic. It can become a little easy after you’ve figured out a good strategy but you can always use a different starting perk which adds and takes away some difficulty. The models are really cute, reminds me of a toy town or Lego.

Some improvements I’d make would be, dragging roads to build instead of clicking for each tile. This isn’t a big issue, but could herald RSI if played too often.

I’d like more maps, a random map generation would be cool, it would make each run very different and unique.

Becastled

Becastled

I really wanted to be able to recommend this game as I did enjoy it, it’s fairly well built in it’s core.

The main issue is lacking content. There is only basic skirmish mode, not story, no setups, no challenges, nothing at all. There is absolutely nothing to work towards. It’s fun to unlock all the technologies but it gets boring quickly as that doesnt take long.

I also had a tremendous amount of trouble trying to get archers positioned on my walls. Constantly getting stuck in annoying ways and not completing the commands. I realize it’s an alpha so thats not that big of a deal.

Clicker Planet

Clicker Planet

I like to support Clicker or Idle game developers. I bought game + DLC and regret this after 10 minutes…

1. This game is so simple that can be made in Unity in less than 1 day.

2. There is no tactic, strategy - nothing in this game. You can just buy 3 idle source of income and… nothing more. There is no progress, no new planets - nothing

3. Game is totaly empty. You can click on 4 diffrent things and do nothing more

4. GAME RESET YOUR PROGRESS RANDOMLY! I played 10 minutes and clicked 3000 times. I was kicked out from game, when I started it again I needed to start from zero. Same happen when you buy DLC and choose diffrent planet (mirrored + diffrent color = 2 USD payment… really?)

I give it about 6-7/10

Easily a few hours of entertainment (about 24 hours to get all the achievements)

It’s in early access so maybe we can expect future updates.

I would like a way to further invest into buildings to increase production. Having to build 10 of one factory just to support 1 of another was a bit extreme.
