Before We Leave

Before We Leave

I have personally been enjoying this game very much! I appreciate that I don’t need to worry about war or combat, nor must I consider the monetary value of my peoples (ie. slavery). It still can be challenging, and I was pleasantly surprised by the little challenges it throws your way (ex: the gremlins!). The aesthetic is very pleasing, and it isn’t very demanding graphically. I would definitely recommend this! I’ve written out some of my experiences and some tips! ♥

  • The Tutorial -

Doing the tutorial is a good idea and I do recommend it, but the tutorial will take you through pretty much the whole game, or at least deep into the mid-game – this could literally be hours and hours lol. But I would suggest stopping after you have started to explore your second planet., then proceed to your own games.

Before we leave is one the best games I have played in a long time for getting right into the game and understanding what to do. It’s not because it’s easy or simple. It’s because of the amazing job they did with the tutorial system and explaining the basics of the game.

Hexagourds

Hexagourds

Hexagourds is a casual, relaxing builder and puzzle game where you place tiles on a grid to make your own pumpkin patch! Grow pumpkins, feed animals, and pick apples as you gain points for rotating, placing and connecting different tiles.

A personal message from the dev

If you’re in love with the fall season or are in need of a relaxing game to distract you from the stressful day-to-day activities of life, then Hexagourds is definitely for you. This game has no winning or losing. You play at your own pace, gaining points for placing tiles wherever you want. You place some pumpkins here, some goats there, and haybales everywhere. This game was meant to be played on a chill, autumn Sunday morning with a coffee next to you. I hope you try it out and enjoy the game.

For those more strategically inclined, there is definitely some strategy involved with maximizing points. I’ve added dailies and a mutliplayer scoreboard if you want to show the rest of the community your sweet score in Hexagourds. But that’s all up to you.

This game offers you:

  • Chill and relaxing gameplay

  • Fun mix of a tile-matching, puzzle, and builder game

  • Lovely fall/autumn vibes!

  • Many different tiles to play and unlock (each tile can have a combination of unique fall-themed items)

  • Simple, elegant low poly art style with relaxing music

  • A beautiful pumpkin patch that you create

  • Daily puzzles and online scoreboards

This game doesn’t have:

  • Violence/Fighting

  • Multiplayer

  • Background Story

  • Resource Gathering/Harvesting

  • Microtransactions

  • Dragons

Just me, David Dalisay, the solo game developer on Hexagourds. I don’t mind being solo! But I love to collaborate with other devs and other gamers.

Happy Fall-idays!

Eden: New Dawn

Eden: New Dawn

I would recommend you wait for major patches/updates to release for the game seems to be at an odd state where the servers lag with your position quite a bit and the only thing you can do is build in creative.

Not much really to it yet but I can’t wait to see if they add things like paint explosive and portals like in World Builder, I still play that game its so nostalgic to me.

Also to send messages in chat longer than one word you cant space it out you need to use underscores.

Needless to say glad I got to see its current build since it just released in Early Access and that I get to support the devs with my purchase.

This review represents the game’s state on September 29, 2021. If lots of time time has passed since this review, then the game may have received major updates and this review may no longer be relevant.

I purchased Eden World Builder many years ago in the earlier days of the iPhone/iPod Touch and it was one of my favorite mobile games of that era (the game still runs on modern iOS hardware btw!). Some of the updates later in its life seemed interesting, but eventually it ended up being an abandoned project. So of course when I heard they were working on a new Eden game, I had to wishlist it on Steam and buy it on launch. From viewing this page I had already figured this wasn’t exactly going to be a Eden World Builder type game, but I always wanted a proper survival mode so why not.

Ancient Cities

Ancient Cities

So, I think I have enough time to comment on this now. As a disclaimer, I never backed the game but saw it a year ago, read all the stories about the time it’s taking, that the game was empty, the devs not being capable of this challenge and even that it was a scam. I put it off for these reasons, wanting to be sure I wasn’t wasting what is a lot of money for EA, but I do not think this is a scam any more, no. I think the devs have wasted time building a custom game engine and may have overfaced themselves, yes, but the level of detail and the continued work on the game to me shows this is a passion project that they will continue, if slowly.

The game looks amazing, much better than Dawn of Man (even with my Realistic Stone Age mod ). I will update with a proper review after I will play some more, but so far I can say this (compared to DOM):

  • You can choose to start playing from 10,000 BC up to 3500 BC, and the end of the last glacial age is depicted on the overview map, as it shows how snow evolves from one date to another, even from summer to winter (I do not know if anything else changes). In DOM you can only play in 10,000 BC.

Architects of Shangri-La

Architects of Shangri-La

Architects of Shangri-La takes you to a beautiful, mountainous land full of myths and untold stories. The state is led by thoughtful monks that constitute spiritual, political and economical power of the nation. Help them build their community, spread wisdom, make Shangri-La thrive and guard it against enemies!

Colonize uninhabited wild slopes. Search for the right spots so that your settlements are easy to reach by traders and porters, but also safe from natural disasters, animals and foes. Make sure that there is room for necessary infrastructure and future expansion. Try to make living in the mountains easier for your citizens.

Take care of physical and spiritual needs of your people. Give them shelter, provide with food by building farms and breeding cattle, ensure access to water, organize trade, construct places of worship and meditation to keep their morale high. Protect your citizens from wild animals, weather breakdowns as well as raiders wanting to disturb your peace.

Communication in the mountains is essential. Carve your way through rocks to connect your settlements with the net of roads and narrow, hazardous paths. Monitor their state and repair them to maintain supply chains, necessary for your people to survive.

Fulfill your spiritual duties. Schedule regular prayers, build chapels and temples to keep evil spirits away and be blessed in your deeds. Meditate to acquire wisdom and remain in balance with your body and mind, assuring happy and peaceful life.

Citres

Citres

Citres is a minimalistic Japanese city building game.

There are no dozens of different types of buildings or macro resource management in the game. In this game you buy packs of buildings for Yen - in-game currency, which contains random buildings in the form of Tetris figures. By placing buildings correctly, you will receive Yen to buy new packs, as well as expand the city by filling houses with new residents, which will bring you closer to the discovery of new unique buildings. Building buildings of the same type in the shape of a square will upgrade them, here the skills of playing Tetris will come in handy.

What’s in the game:

  • Simple and straightforward gameplay

  • Procedurally generated island

  • Japanese atmosphere with relaxing soundtrack[/]
