I personally liked the game on its inspirations of Limbo, Inside, The Mist, & Silent Hill. I liked the puzzles, but the last two levels before the boss battle were quite long for a short game. I’m impressed to see that this game was made specifically by one person, & translated by another. I feel there might not be enough spawn checkpoints for the last two puzzles as having to run with such a big map takes a long time. The one extra checkpoint you get in the testing facility with the sentry guns is the elevator. When it comes to the tram level, it takes a very long time for the main tram to get to your character, but I felt the speed of the other trams was fair to solve the puzzle. This isn’t to say I didn’t like the vast set pieces. Seeing that on the bridge genuinely startled me. This proof of concept is well done & I genuinely want this developer to experiment more. P.S the ragdolling was hilarious & also some of the issues I had were fixed in some of the patches.

The Dark Side of the Moon: An Interactive FMV Thriller

Well what I can say. I am one of those who backed Tayanna Studios for a long time and knew he would have a brilliant project to come out and I got to say.

You play as Dean Hamilton who has had his kids Ruby and Andy kipnapped and you have to find them and bring them back home but you find out it is not that simple. Dean Hamilton is played by Darren Hall who is an auteur for this project and got to give him real credit and super love on this.

This is a really good game with a great story. It mixes FMV gameplay and point & click gameplay really well. The game is really basic which could turn off people but I think it is needed especially with this story as the main focus is on the gameplay and acting.

It was a boring Friday night …

I could find nothing to watch on TV.

A friend told me about this so I peeked and then purchased.

I launched it only to make sure it ran properly :-) – it did. Then I looked up, it was two hours later, I was almost halfway through. I was hooked and quite immersed in the story.

Your children are missing:

What would you do and who would you trust?

The game page description is accurate so I won’t repeat it.

GAMEPLAY:

This reminded me of Carol Reed games, but instead of conventional movement you easily click a box to move.

TL:DNR: A noble, but much flawed effort. Buy it very cheap ( us$1), or="" for="" the="" achievement="" 100%="" ( us$1.50) br="" Okay - so this is one of those games that the “comedians” of Steam just go on about either with brutal comments about it giving them cancer, or racist/sectist crap, or they do the lame sarcasm.

This isn’t one of those.

What I like about this game, is their intent. To make a Arabic/Northern African themed game of adventure and discovery. I like the characters most of the time, and would really like to see more games coming from Arab countries make it into the mainstream (Semaphore is a Saudi game studio), as I am intrigued to hear their cultural voice applied to gaming. The graphics are generally pretty good, though the ATV escape ‘chapter’ had some odd graphics quality, I think to mimic a sandstorm, but looked like a bug. The brother and sister team is a great idea too. /us$1),

“Oh look guys, it’s Timothy writing a review for that one game everyone on youtube makes fun of! I can’t wait until he tears it a new arsehole, because he’s a cynical bastard and that’s what cynical people do!”

If this was your reaction when you noticed this review, then I’m sorry to tell you that I will not write a funny 9/11 Allahu Akbar type of review. I respect the dev team, who put a lot of work and effort in this game, too much for that. Well yeah, this game is inspired by Uncharted, Tomb Raider, what not, they won’t deny that. But at least they are enthusiastic about it. What’s the last time you saw people this happy about making a game? Even if the game is buggy (and oh, trust me, it is, I’ll elaborate) I still had fun playing it simply because I know the devs had fun making it. They really want to make an amazing adventure series where you explore the arabic world and its many fascinating places (which it truly has, no doubt about that). The dev team knows that they’re not making GOTYAY material and doesn’t say they are. They try to stay positive while everyone on the internet’s too busy making fun of them and their “worst game ever” (a title that many other games I’ve played deserve more). They respond nicely to often assholish or ‘funny’ behaviour and criticism, which I think is something most developers can learn from. So yeah, kuddos for that, guys.

Awake: Episode One

OMG! This experience is a MUST SEE! I read about AWAKE: Episode One on Upload VR and thought it looked interesting, but I was totally unprepared for how much of an emotional impact it would have on me!

It’s short (takes me about 25 minutes cos I want to study every detail), but I’ve never had a VR experience quite like it - being able to get right up in front of these real characters and just want to go back in there again and again. Still working through the deeper levels of what the bigger story means. What a head trip, brilliant performances and cannot wait for more episodes!!!! Where is it all going???

Awake makes you feel like your in that in-between state when your neither fully awake or fully asleep. The ability to light the characters faces makes you feel like you can hold their chins in the palm of your hands — that moment when you become Harry or Rose positions the story centrally in your psyche. When the light shone out of me, I am sure I burst. Look you give me an experience where it tells me to dream I will dream but, even the greatest cynic has to appreciate when a story envelopes you whole. I would love to dive into the teacup.

Dark Nights with Poe and Munro

Dark Nights with Poe and Munro

Dark Nights with Poe and Munro is a FMV comedy-thriller game, where the player intervene in radio hosts' adventures in six episode. The game is playing in the same universe like The Shapeshifting Detective from the same developer.

I bought the game at the first place, because I really liked The Shapeshifting Detective.

Sound and music is most likely the brightest part of the game. Especially the main menu theme, but all of the songs are really good. Other sound and voices are really good in the game, has good quality in my opinion. In the last episodes, one of the actress voice was low, but that’s all really.

The Infectious, Shapeshifting Madness of D’Avekki Studios!

(The infectious madness I’m currently enduring is that of COVID symptomatology, so please forgive anything that doesn’t quite make sense!)

I think I love it.

The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker had a huge impact on me. A fact poor D’Avekki Studios will have already been well exposed to if they caught any glimpse of my Shapeshifting Detective review. Where it really separated itself from all other FMV games then and since is that it was effectively one-on-one campfire storytelling. Patients were constricted to lounging on a central sofa as they beguiled you with outlandish stories against a superbly crafted atmosphere. Your imagination was put to work, but with the FMV visuals lending it all more credibility. Nothing else is quite like it and thus quite matches it (the closest perhaps being Her Story). I’ve been eargerly awaiting anything D’Avekki ever since.

Death Come True

Death Come True

Coming from the same creator of Danganronpa, Death Come True is a marvelous FMV with a very interesting and genius gameplay. You play as a person who woke up in a hotel room with no memories of what brought him to this place. He’ll meet people who’ll tell him what is his identity, or what they thought he is. I’m not going to give away much about the story because it’ll be more fun for you to discover it yourself.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2297203710

It has multiple endings, and the most interesting part that if you die, the game will restart but the main character will still have a memory of whatever event happened and the people he met. This will give you a chance to take different choices and decisions.

Real player with 3.4 hrs in game

I recommend this game, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t leave me disappointed. Death Come True comes to us from the developer of the Danganronpa series and is a FMV mystery title. As the story plays out, the game will occasionally prompt you to make a choice where you then witness the outcome of your decision; like a Choose Your Own Adventure novel. However, that’s where my primary criticism of the game comes in. Despite the illusion of choice, DCT is actually very linear. Usually you are left with deciding between one of two paths, but making the “incorrect” decision often leads to a quick Game Over and the option to continue the game at the last branch in the story line, so you can make the other choice and advance. It doesn’t always play out like this, but in the interest of avoiding spoilers, I’ll ease up on getting more specific. Also, this game is a lot shorter than I was expecting. In 3.4 hours, I earned all the achievements and witnessed all the branching outcomes. Granted, there is a fast-forward option that I used to bypass scenes that had already played out in a previous playthrough, but I still wanted a little more meat on this bone. So, why do I recommend it? Because it’s not a bad game. The story is interesting, albeit not as mind-blowing as I was hoping. Just know that you’re getting a bite-sized, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch-esque experience and not much else. With experience in the Zero Escape and Danganronpa series' prior to playing this game, it’s conceivable my expectations were too high. Nevertheless, I look forward to the seeing what Too Kyo Games comes up with next. But as it concerns DCT, I recommend waiting for a sale.

My full playthrough is here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GB9VkOjgjQA

I am giving a thumbs up for the effort. Out of the huge amount of really bad scary games out there, and the tons of games that just flip the same assets over and over; White Vortex does “try” to make a good game. It has some scares and the graphics are good. Yet, I can’t say it is all that original in terms of find a LOT of keys and read a LOT of notes in the dark.

In terms of game stability. BUGS BUGS BUG CRASHES AND BUGS! There are a bunch. I have an unedited playthrough here for reference. I had so many problems toward the end I was raging.

This game is the embodiment of cheap indie horror. Here you are presented with poor visuals, clumsy controls, generic sound effects and music, terrible voice acting, stupid jump scares that often are out of place, annoying chase sequences and the story that is so stupid, bland and banal that it makes one constantly facepalm.

Some effort was definitely put into this amateur project. Unfortunately, the result of this effort is atrocious like in the case of many other indie horror games of similar nature. Should be free to play.

Rainswept

Rainswept

Rainswept provides an overall enjoyable experience but suffers from a lack of consistency in what is otherwise a mostly-polished piece of interactive fiction.

You need to go into this with the mindset that you’re about to watch a movie, not necessarily something that’s groundbreaking or will blow you away, but at least delivers on the genre by giving you all the things you expect at it from face value.

Yes, you will be required to show Detective Stone around a small town and click on various interactables as the investigation of an apparent murder-suicide plays out before you, but the developers make it clear from the start that they have a story to tell you, and a specific order of events in which they want to tell it in.
