Me Smart Orc

Me Smart Orc

An interesting little short story CYOA set in the game maker’s own fantasy Universe (in which they’ve written a few books on Kindle/Amazon).

The deaths and game overs are a little sudden and arbitrary (“Who do you fight, the skeleton or the zombie?” has one correct answer and one game over, for instance) but it’s designed to be started over and re-ran quickly.

You can create a save game from the menu system, but it’s literally going to make a .sav file in your My Documents folder for you to load, the engine itself is basically just a HTML browser [text, hyperlinks to next passage, some pictures]. It’s using the public domain “Quest” engine available online at textadventures.co.uk which I found interesting - I’d researched this one in the past while reading up on CYOA and Interactive Fiction but never seen anything implemented in it. That was actually what lead me to try this.

This game is not “good.” It has an extremely high learning curve, no tutorial, a clunky interface, poorly laid out and unintuitive quest objectives, sub-par writing, semi-frequent crashes, and is heavily dependent on the community “Combined Mod” to smooth out its rough edges.

That said, it is the best pure Pirate RPG available. But that probably says more about the gaping hole that exists in the market and less about this game itself. Aside from the brief but very welcome tangent that the Assassin’s Creed franchise took with Black Flag we have not seen a good single player pirate RPG in a long time; probably since Sid Meier’s Pirates. So if you need your pirate fix and are willing to take the time to learn this game, then you will be satisfied. But I can’t help but wonder why we haven’t seen a better Pirate game made.

It’s a fun game!

At first sight, it might seem like the game does not have a lot to offer, but after getting into it I was impressed with the details in the game.

Positive:

+The story is written well. You can find some jokes too 😂

+You get different endings relative to your choices in the game.

+We can see the decision tree at the end of the game.

+You can feel the creepy atmosphere while playing. (Rain in the night, silence and demonic figures)

+Fell in love with the funny “Quiz” feature at the end of the game. (I wanted to face it with my bare hands! 😂)

A short interactive horror movie about religion - You are in charge of a murderous priest that kills people with his bible. Absolutely hilarious, and I loved the awesome soundtrack of this game.

The theme of religion has been flagging up for me as of late and I sure hope it’s not a sign from above… The only other similarly themed horror game that I’ve reviewed was Lucius but that was about inflicting pain being inspired by the Omen films. It would be fine, had it not Intersect with another sub-genre I had NO prior experience at all (ZILCH)- FMV games! Hold for shock… I have come across many on Steam, but not once did I see the appeal behind them- if I wanted to watch something…you know where I’m going with this!?

Pretty boring game that fools You with the title and dialogues into thinking that Your choices matter. They don’t, big spoiler:

! at the end of the game only 1 character survives despite many choices that fool You into thinking if You could save other characters. Level design and story are boring after You know Your choices don’t matter that much. You have to backtrack through many areas which just makes the game longer. The description says the game has “great replayability” but after finishing it once You won’t touch it anyway because of how boring it is. The only people I believe replayed the game 2+ times are achievement junkies like me. I’m still trying to 100% this but it’ll take me a long time because I don’t feel like touching this game anymore right now. I completed 2 playthroughs that took me around 6-7h excluding some afk breaks I had even though I used previous save that was around 60% completion I believe. Basically game save to choose which character keeps the key item. I cannot believe how much developers tried to make the game longer. Even without backtracking the final 30minutes of the game are pure bs. You get to fight all the bosses that You fought already before You get to the final room and have to make final decision. The fact that road to the room was filled with many smaller mobs that would use up Your health, mana and useful items that would help You in these boss fights didn’t help at all. I completed the game at normal difficulty so I don’t even want to imagine how bad it is on hard or masochist. I don’t recommend this game even for its low price. “Choose wisely” is an illusion that gets repeated many times throught the game, there’s a lot of backtracking which doesn’t even help on normal difficulty, I had no fun playing this game. Save Your time and money unless You’re a real masochist though I think masochist difficulty might be too much even for real masochists.

This is probably the most artistic short RPG I’ve played. I’m a perv and I play the game because of… you know… those ‘melons’. I bought it using a coupon I got from crafting my nekonin game badge.

So, this is a short RPG about some characters with different personalities and backgrounds trapped out of nowhere in a mysterious dungeon. The choice you make along the game will decide which may live and die. For those who just want to enjoy the story, there’s the casual mode. If you seek more challenging adventure, you can choose between three levels of difficulties.

I feel a little bad that there are no other reviews(that I can see) of this title…

This is a visual novel. The story isn’t bad, but I did expect a little more as far as actual gameplay. Not bad, not great.

Realms of Eternity

This is an impressive start to what might be an amazing game… I agree with some other reviews that the content is still in-process, but just by people who like to swing swords around and cut stuff, or shoot bows (which is actually very accurate in stark contrast to the sword-phasing in and out of contact) there is a ton of data still left on the table to be collected for refinement.

I was really impressed with the introduction of the messenger ninja, and the overall environment. Also, I had the bow & arrow mini-game freeze on me… I went back, since I was close to high score, but it froze again. boooo… Another thing with the mini-game, is that some of the enemy ninja freeze/glitch where you can’t kill them. Thus, you can not progress to the next wave.

I know this game is in Early Access and I hate to give a negative review when I can see that the developer is actively developing the game. However, what’s available right now is just not enough and it’s also not very good. It’s a nice start to what might be a good game, but I have to review the game that I played.

What’s available right now is two things. A very simple sandbox where you can cut pieces of wood / bamboo and some fruits & veggies with a sword (2 handed or 1 handed). You also have a bow & arrow wave shooter mini-game, that’s very similar to Holopoint … just not nearly half as good.

Without choices we’re merely going through life on a never-ending elevator

It’s been so long since I experienced a Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA), going back to my childhood days I found them fascinating because they were so simple in their design yet when you delve into the story there are a maze of choices to be made often with a grisly ending for any naive decisions. The choices were so quick to come by it meant the real challenge was staying involved in the story while striving for any new opening that would branch you further into the plot but, with so many trapdoor wrong turnings, it is easier said than done.

Disclaimer: This is not a technical critique. I’m a streamer and I will review based on whether I enjoyed games and how well my community responded to them. I hope there’s value in that to some.

This game isn’t going to blow you away visually if you’re used to ‘flashy’ games with ‘action’. However, as someone who very much enjoyed the ‘Choose Your Own Adventures’ books in my youth, it was easy for me to see beyond the not-full screen. It’s a book and as such would have looked odd if it filled the screen. It was easy to pick up what to do, and there were different difficulty levels to choose from. As someone who enjoys the ‘journey’ and to experience the stories rather than stress too much about having enough health to last the game, I elected for the easiest setting.

A very short VN with some rpg maker-like map that was founded on Kickstarter. I am one of the backers but I simply cannot recommend it.

The story, or rather ‘story’, is an incoherent mess. No character development or any development whatsoever, no explanations, no dialogues, and total nonsense. It’s just a series of choices which come out of nowhere, with no build up at all. Few events that just happen because. No continuity here. I have yet to see something less coherent than this. Sorry, this is worse than kindergarten level of writing. My guess it is a translation from japanese since english sucks badly and often makes little to no sense.

I love this Harem style visual novel. I played the demo on itch.io, I advise you to do the same if you are not sure you want to buy it.

The story is very romantic, there are several choices that allow you to discover new things.

In addition, the hero can turn on his computer in his bedroom and play very funny sexy video games.

Exploring the city from above is great.

I would like a sequel!

The dialog are well-written. The graphic is unique yet weird, i find it funny somehow but actually liked it.

The story itself is about 20 mins long. Who you visit at the beginning will make you run into different endings. However, even accept the mission from different people, you are going to meet the same person and get the same loot at the end. But your decisions, thoughts, enemies, and your story ends in different ways.

Aren’t these real lives?
