Field Hospital: Dr. Taylor’s Story

Better than I thought!

I’m not a big fan of such kinds of games BUT this one hooked me for a few hours.

Nice stories.

Interesting to read while you’re playing.

Good atmosphere (too much sfx of machine guns in the background, imho, but it’s not a big deal - just make the music louder! :)).

Well done, guys!

Wonderful start!

Keep going and good luck with the next project!

Really would like to play your next game.

Mother of All Secrets

Mother of All Secrets

Mother of All Secrets is an RPG full of occult mysteries, investigations, and intrigue. Become a young ward at an old and remote orphanage. Live your new life for fourteen days as the enigmatic masters of the House prepare you and your mates for the impending visit of the mysterious Guest.

The House’s walls conceal a small world of stories, plans, and conspiracies. Every hour is fateful here. Decide where to go, what events to participate in, which goals to pursue, and who you should influence. Will you be ready to learn the ultimate truth on the last night of your stay at the House?

A Living Breathing House

Become a part of the close-knit community of the orphanage. Other wards, your teachers, caretakers, and even the family of House owners — behind every living soul, there are goals, plans, and desires. With every hour, individual plots progress, secrets unfold, and choices are made that alter the House forever.

Your Own Story

Create your own character and live out a unique story — only you decide how to spend each and every hour. Go about uncovering the asylum’s secrets however you like. Make friends or enemies at your own discretion. Explore the darkest and most dangerous corners of the House. Unravel other people’s schemes and draw up your own plans. Obey or risk breaking the cryptic rules that govern the orphanage and face the consequences. What will you do with your freedom of choice?

High Stakes

Perform actions in every scene by playing cards. These cards determine your character’s skills, items, and even relationships. Different cards allow you to influence others, gain an upper hand during encounters, apply the knowledge and traits you have acquired, or push the narrative towards the desired outcome. Remember that other characters possess their own set of cards which they can play against you! Study the abilities and intentions of others before reshuffling their decks and transforming their personalities. How will you play your hand?

Vagrus - The Riven Realms

Genuinely good. Multiple ways to play through, interesting conceits and brutal treatment of mistakes. A player really gets the feeling that their choices matter to their future and no decision is taken lightly, whether in the scripted events or even in just where to go. Great game to replay using different builds and goals, which adds longevity. A really good strong start form the devs, they should be proud of their product. I hope they continue to build and improve.

Vagrus is for particular tastes. Do you want an open world trade-simulation oriented RPG with a lot of content, almost all of which is delivered through text? Are you ok with playing a character that never appears in the game except through choices and effects you make on your trade caravan, your companions, and the factions you fight or ally with? Are you ok with these choices changing the course of the overall story only in a limited way, so the bulk of your player effect is in how you choose to advance your caravan and companions and not how you destroy an enemy or change the world? Most of the big moments in the game are finding out about something that is going on, but being unable to completely stop it. Sometimes you can’t effect it at all. But, you learn, and in almost every way in Vagrus, knowledge is power. The user interface is wonky, the gameplay is deep but takes a long time to get your head around, and currently the Internet will not answer all of your many questions about how the world works. You’ll need to figure quite a bit out for yourself. Does that sound fun? give Vagrus a try.

Choose Wisely

Choose Wisely

Pretty boring game that fools You with the title and dialogues into thinking that Your choices matter. They don’t, big spoiler:

! at the end of the game only 1 character survives despite many choices that fool You into thinking if You could save other characters. Level design and story are boring after You know Your choices don’t matter that much. You have to backtrack through many areas which just makes the game longer. The description says the game has “great replayability” but after finishing it once You won’t touch it anyway because of how boring it is. The only people I believe replayed the game 2+ times are achievement junkies like me. I’m still trying to 100% this but it’ll take me a long time because I don’t feel like touching this game anymore right now. I completed 2 playthroughs that took me around 6-7h excluding some afk breaks I had even though I used previous save that was around 60% completion I believe. Basically game save to choose which character keeps the key item. I cannot believe how much developers tried to make the game longer. Even without backtracking the final 30minutes of the game are pure bs. You get to fight all the bosses that You fought already before You get to the final room and have to make final decision. The fact that road to the room was filled with many smaller mobs that would use up Your health, mana and useful items that would help You in these boss fights didn’t help at all. I completed the game at normal difficulty so I don’t even want to imagine how bad it is on hard or masochist. I don’t recommend this game even for its low price. “Choose wisely” is an illusion that gets repeated many times throught the game, there’s a lot of backtracking which doesn’t even help on normal difficulty, I had no fun playing this game. Save Your time and money unless You’re a real masochist though I think masochist difficulty might be too much even for real masochists.

This is probably the most artistic short RPG I’ve played. I’m a perv and I play the game because of… you know… those ‘melons’. I bought it using a coupon I got from crafting my nekonin game badge.

So, this is a short RPG about some characters with different personalities and backgrounds trapped out of nowhere in a mysterious dungeon. The choice you make along the game will decide which may live and die. For those who just want to enjoy the story, there’s the casual mode. If you seek more challenging adventure, you can choose between three levels of difficulties.

TAISHO x ALICE episode 2

TAISHO x ALICE episode 2

TL;DR: this is an okay at best game, so if you have to choose between this and anything else, you’re far better off choosing the other one.

I’ve disliked the previous episode. So why did I still buy this one?

  • Kaguya.

  • like everyone else on Steam I am starved for new Otome games and thanks to 2020 might as well change that to literally any type of game.

  • Gretel memes.

  • also Kaguya.

Do I regret my impulsive choice? Ehhhh… not really BUT …

Story

The previous game had Kaguya as the heroine’s butler that was secretly having feelings for her, if you liked that go away this game has nothing to do with that. What about Gretel’s life as pompous’s Cinderella’s brother? Also moot. Confusing? Welcome to Taisho Alice.

This is not the game for me. However, it may be the game for you if you are interested in psychological horror, traumatic relationships, and challenging stories. I’m giving this a thumbs up because the game is well-designed and well-written, and has lovely art and music. Please see my CAUTION before reading my pros and cons list.

CAUTION: This game (specifically Taisho x Alice Episode II) contains vivid descriptions of self-harm, suicide, violence, and addiction. It is very difficult to reach the Happy Ending for either of the two routes, because the line between love and insanity is drawn very fine in these stories. You have to choose perfectly all the way through or you will reach a bad ending. If you have played other otome games, then the best comparisons are the yandere routes in Amnesia (Toma) and Ozmafia (parts of the brothel route in particular), especially with respect to Gretel’s route.

The Night Fisherman

The Night Fisherman

I found The Night Fisherman a bit underwhelming on its own, but I liked it as a prologue to its follow-up, The Outcast Lovers. Given it’s so short and free, I’d be inclined to recommend it, except… If you read other negative reviews for The Night Fisherman, you’ll see a few accusations that the scene you play through is plagiarized from the opening of the movie Inglourious Basterds. The dev claims that it’s just an “homage.”

So, is it plagiarism or homage? Considering the art is extremely minimal and there is no game play outside of one decision at the end, the dialog that plays out in this scene is all The Night Fisherman really has going for it. I think that makes the question of whether that dialog is original work or not pretty important.

The Sacrifices – Politically Charged Game Series

Amongst the alternate history of The Night Fisherman exists the English Protection Group, vigilantes who keep a watchful eye on the Smuggler’s Run, a renowned crossing for vessels bound from Calais containing illegal immigrants. The player takes on the role of the fisherman in the middle of the ocean, during an encounter with another boat and its shotgun-wielding passenger. The fisherman must direct the conversation and the camera angle in a bid to escape the situation safely.

UPDATE:

The game hasn’t had an update in 4 months and there have been no communications about it from the developer. The English translation of the game has had no changes from the initial release – it is still incomprehensible, written or translated by someone who does not have a good grasp of English. Furthermore, when I confronted the developer through the games' group chat about a refund, I was promptly banned, without even receiving any sort of answer.

TL;DR - The written English of this game is incomprehensible. Development of this game seems to have stopped after the initial release. I strongly advise against buying this game.

The Yawhg

The Yawhg

Initially, when I first heard of this game, I just figured, “hey, this looks kinda neat but I’m not paying $10 for it becuase I’m a lousy cheap-ass.” It looked like a cool concept to me and if it looks like a cool concept to you, then you’re perhaps in for something of a treat.

Now, when I first played it on my own, I wasn’t particularly entertained. I mean, yes, the different story paths were somewhat interesting and the various different endings were kinda cool but I wasn’t really absorbed into it. It was just something I used to make a good 45 minutes pass by one day when I was feeling bored. Then, while with some friends the other night, I decided to pull it out because we all needed a game to play and this just so happened to be multiplayer and seemed like a nice change of pace from the usual stuff we always tend to play (e.g. Genital Jousting, Jackbox Party Pack, etc.) What I didn’t expect was for us to keep playing over and over again for several more hours, as we found ourselves unusually entertained by this strange little game.

The Yawhg

The Yawhg is a quaint little game. The premise is simple, you control up to four characters in the weeks leading up to a great disaster known as The Yawhg. Nobody knows the Yawhg is coming, and you can only command your characters so far in that you pick an activity for them to complete each week.

Your characters will gain stat points for the activity you choose. For example, chopping wood increases strength. But random events will also happen, so while chopping wood you might meet a dryad, and they’ll ask you to dance. If your character has a high finesse score, you can impress the dryad with your dancing and receive a reward.
